ABEOKUTA — The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the killing of a 61-year-old retired teacher, Mrs Adedotun Adeteju Oluwaseun, at her residence in Agbaakin Emere, Bode-Olude, Abeokuta.
The suspect, identified as Saburi Lateef Ayinde, popularly known as “Oki-Ocean,” was arrested on Monday after months of investigation, the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Thursday.
According to the statement, the deceased was found dead in the toilet of her residence on February 28, 2026, a day after she reportedly attended a retirement celebration organised by her colleagues.
Babaseyi said the case was later transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
Preliminary findings indicated that the retired teacher was allegedly strangled and attacked with a machete during an altercation with the suspect. The police spokesman added that the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime, linking it to a financial disagreement between him and the deceased.
Ayinde allegedly claimed that he had entrusted ₦3.45 million to the retired teacher for safekeeping, with an agreement that she would lend him ₦1.5 million to purchase another vehicle.
“Detectives are working to corroborate his account and establish the full circumstances surrounding the murder,” Babaseyi said.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the investigating officers for their persistence and professionalism in handling the case. He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to investigating serious crimes and ensuring that suspects are brought to justice.
The police said the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation. The command urged residents to resolve disputes through lawful means and promptly report suspicious activities or criminal incidents to the appropriate authorities.
