SWAN POSTPONES ANNUAL SWAN/SECURITY CUP

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ogun State Chapter, wishes to inform all participating security agencies and their personnel of the postponement of the annual SWAN/Security Cup football competition until March, 2027.

The SWAN/Security Cup is an annual football competition involving security agencies across Ogun State, established to foster synergy, camaraderie and stronger working relationships among security operatives, while also promoting physical fitness, mental alertness and overall well-being.

Since its inception in 2021, the competition has successfully recorded five editions, bringing together personnel from various security agencies in the state in the spirit of sportsmanship, friendship and inter-agency cooperation.

However, following careful consideration of the security demands associated with the forthcoming 2027 general elections, particularly as political campaigns are expected to commence from September 2026 and intensify through January 2027, SWAN has decided to postpone the competition.

During this crucial political period, the participating security agencies and their personnel will be fully engaged in providing adequate security, maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, and ensuring a peaceful electoral process across Ogun State.

We believe that the postponement is necessary to enable our security agencies to concentrate fully on their constitutional and statutory responsibilities during this period, without any additional commitments that may affect their operational readiness.

Accordingly, the SWAN/Security Cup will resume in June 2027, immediately after the swearing-in of the next administration, when we anticipate that the security environment will be more conducive for the successful hosting of the competition.

We sincerely regret any inconvenience that this postponement may cause to the participating security agencies, their personnel, organisers, partners and other stakeholders. 

We equally appreciate the tremendous support, cooperation and interest that the competition has enjoyed since its inception, especially from our headline sponsor, VALUEJET AIRLINE.

SWAN, Ogun State Chapter, remains committed to using sports as a platform to strengthen inter-agency cooperation, promote healthy living and deepen the bond between the media and the security community.
