As part of its efforts at eradicating incessant road accidents at the Sango Tollgate,the Ogun State government has demolished all shanties and makeshift structures on road setback on both sides of the border point between Ogun and Lagos states.
Leading the exercise, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment,Dr Kafayat Lawal said the demolition was carried out after several warning and abatement notices were served on the street traders to vacate the area as an alternative place has been provided for them on the Plaza Road,Sango alongside street traders at Under bridge.
"The exercise will free the Tollgate and Under bridge street trading which frequently leads to loss of life when there are mishaps around the area which has become source of worry to the state government and well-meaning Nigerians"
" The state government will therefore not fold its hands and allow street trading in the Tollgate area which had led to avoidable loss of life and permanent disabilities due to its danger"
Dr Lawal therefore called on the traders to move to the new market provided for them by the state government in conjunction with the Ado-Odo Ota Local Government as well as Olota- in Council as any one of them caught coming back to the Tollgate and Under bridge areas will face the full wrath of the law.
