The President of Egba Patriots Sports Club, Engineer Ayodeji Sodrudeen Abolore (popularly known as ASA), has disclosed that the long-term vision of the club is to emulate the success story of Remo Stars as a flagship football team in Nigeria.
Speaking with journalists in Abeokuta, Engineer Ayodeji explained that his passion for youth development in Egbaland and Ogun State at large inspired the establishment of Egba Patriots SC.
“We are trying to emulate what Remo Stars are doing, so we decided to do something for ourselves in Egbaland too, something that will carry the name and send a direct message to every Egba descendant,” he said.
The Egba Patriots boss revealed that the club already boasts key facilities, including a branded team bus, a players’ accommodation facility at its headquarters in Mawuko, Abeokuta, Ogun State, and land designated for the construction of an ultra-modern football pitch and a sports arena in the near future.
He added that plans are underway to develop a comprehensive sports centre that will cater not only to football but also to other sports such as female football, Basketball and table tennis, among others.
“We are trying to create a sports centre very soon that will encompass female football, table tennis, and other sports for the benefit of our people,” he said. “We believe it will go a long way in reducing social vices in our society.”
ASA acknowledged the critical role of the media in the growth of sports and called on sports journalists in the state to partner with the club in its developmental journey.
While admitting that the club has faced several challenges since its inception, he expressed optimism about the future and encouraged parents to support their children’s interest in sports while ensuring they also pursue their education.
“Egba Patriots is currently open to talented youths between the ages of 15 and 20. Now is the best time to join because, once our sports centre and vocational school become operational, the academy will go fully commercial,” he concluded.
