DSS Apprehends Major Arms Manufacturer in Plateau State, Seizes IED Materials

JOS – In a significant breakthrough against terrorism financing and logistics, the Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a suspected major arms manufacturer and supplier to armed groups operating in Plateau State and other parts of northern Nigeria.

The suspect, identified as Musa Abubakar, was apprehended on November 12, 2025, following a targeted raid on his workshop in the Mista Ali area of Bassa Local Government, Plateau State.

According to a DSS source, the operation was launched after the service received precise intelligence on Abubakar's activities. During the raid, operatives reportedly caught the suspect red-handed.

“The suspect confessed to having manufactured and distributed high-calibre weapons and ammunition to armed groups involved in violent attacks in Plateau State and other northern regions,” the source stated.

Items confiscated from the workshop included various components for constructing Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), along with chemicals and specialised equipment.

This arrest marks the latest in a series of high-profile operational successes for the DSS. It comes shortly after the recapture of Abdulazeez Obadaki, also known as "Bomboy," a Kuje Prison escapee who masterminded the attacks in Owo and on the Deeper Life Church.

The DSS has recently intensified its efforts to dismantle networks fueling violence in the country's central and northern regions. This is evidenced by the earlier arrest of nine high-profile suspects linked to attacks in Plateau and Benue states.

Among those previously arrested is Timna Manjol (46), a member of the First Baptist Church in Mangu LGA, Plateau State, who has already pleaded guilty to charges including the illegal possession of firearms.

The arrest of Musa Abubakar is seen as a critical blow to the supply chain of weapons used in the persistent communal and terrorist violence plaguing the region, underscoring the DSS's declared commitment to enhancing national security.
