The football community in Nasarawa State has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of Habibu Aliyu Ozeze, captain of Heartland FC of Shabu.
Habibu reportedly slumped while participating in a five-a-side Ramadan football match in Shabu, a suburb of Lafia. Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred as he attempted to deliver a pass during the game. Despite efforts made in the immediate aftermath, he was later confirmed dead.
The late Habibu Aliyu Ozeze was widely known in the Nasarawa football scene and beyond. Over the course of his career, he featured for several clubs, including Kogi United in the Nigeria National League (NNL), where he earned recognition for his leadership and commitment on the pitch.
His passing is a significant loss to grassroots and professional football in the state, with teammates, fans, and stakeholders describing him as dedicated, disciplined, and passionate about the game.
