Abiodun Condoles Odogbolu Kingdom Over Monarch’s Demise

 

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the people of Odogbolu in the Ogun East Senatorial District over the passing of their revered monarch, Oba Adedeji Onagoruwa, the Alaye of Odogbolu.

The esteemed monarch passed away on Monday at the age of 80 after a brief illness.

In a condolence message, Governor Abiodun described the late traditional ruler as a passionate leader who selflessly served his people and contributed significantly to the development of the kingdom.

According to the governor, "Oba Onagoruwa will be deeply missed by his people, given the wisdom and diplomacy he demonstrated in overseeing the affairs of his domain.

He, therefore, prayed for the repose of his soul and for strength and comfort for his immediate family and the people of Odogbolu as they mourn this irreparable loss.

Oba Onagoruwa was indeed a custodian of Yoruba culture and tradition. He ruled his people with love and affection, embodying wisdom and native intelligence.

We take solace in the fact that he left behind an indelible legacy of service and leadership. May God grant his soul eternal rest," Governor Abiodun stated.

Ogun Govt. Begins Tolling Operations on Epe-Mojoda-Ijebu-Ode Expressway, Calls for Total Compliance

 

Ogun State Government has announced the commencement of tolling operations on the Epe-Mojoda-Ijebu-Ode Expressway, starting from Monday, 24th March 2025, for the purpose of sustainable road maintenance, efficient operations, as well as enhanced road safety.

It should be recalled that the 14.7km road had been in a poor state of repair for many years, making it a dangerous and unsatisfactory route for commuters.

The administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun re-built the road into a modern expressway with up to date facilities,  including toll booths.   

According to a statement on Wednesday by the Director-General, Office of the Public-Private Partnerships, Hon. Dapo Oduwole, the reason for not tolling the road immediately upon its opening for use, despite its PPP arrangement, was predicated on the magnanimity of Governor Dapo Abiodun and his resolve to make life comfortable for the people of the state.

The statement explained that the Governor considered the expressway as a strategic corridor for economic activities between Nigeria's commercial capital of Lagos and Ogun State; hence, the urgency for its completion.

The Director-General further stated that road users can comfortably ply the road without hindrance of any form, as necessary amenities were provided to make it one of the best in the country.

"Prince Dapo Abiodun, upon assumption of office and in the course of designing an effective and efficient transport system that will boost the microeconomy of the state, discovered the economic importance of the Epe-Mojoda-Ijebu-Ode Expressway.

"The government had opted for a public private partnership arrangement in the management of the asset including the collection of tolls. The government magnanimously delayed the rolling operations on that road since 2021 to provide some relief to residents and other road users.

"Meanwhile, while considering the interests of the people, we must also take into cognizance the economic interests of the investors for us to strike a balance, hence the need to commence tolling operations on the road after about four years of using it free of any charge.

"It is pertinent to note that some road users have been exempted from this tolling obligation. These include emergency response vehicles, such as ambulances, fire service, and patrol vehicles.

"Others are government-owned security vehicles, Ogun State Government official vehicles, and any others as determined by the Ogun State Government.

"We, therefore, urge all road users to comply with these tolling regulations as enforcement measures will be implemented to the fullest without fear or favor," the statement read.

Abiodun Congratulates Aiyedatiwa

Chairman of the Southern Governors Forum (SGF) and Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has congratulated the Ondo State Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on his inauguration as the seventh democratically elected governor of Ondo State.

Abiodun, who described the inauguration as a new chapter in a glorious dawn for the people of the Sunshine State, said the Ondo State governor had left no one in doubt about his resolve to radically transform the state and usher it into an era of prosperity under the All Progressives Congress (APC) banner.

He stated that the fact that the governor has just unveiled plans to boost tourism and investment in Ondo, showcasing Araromi Seaside’s potential to local and international investors, shows that he is in a hurry to unleash the potential of Ondo State and lift the people into an era of prosperity.

He said: "Even before his resounding victory at the November 16, 2024, governorship election in Ondo State, His Excellency, Mr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa had left no one in doubt that he is specially made for this time in Ondo State.

Ogun to Benefit as World's largest Protein Producer Invests $2.5bn in Nigeria

Ogun, Nigeria's top investment destination, is set to reap huge benefits  as the largest protein producer in the world, JBS of Brazil, has indicated interest in investing $2.5bn in the livestock subsector of Nigeria's economy.

The Controlling Shareholder of the company, Mr. Wesley Batista, gave this indication when officials of his firm, led by the Controlling Shareholder of EMN, Mr. John Coumantaros, visited the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta on Sunday.

Mr. Batista, who described Nigeria as the hub of Africa with the largest population, noted the enormous potentials that exist in the country in terms of human and natural resources, and said they were ready to bring their knowledge and expertise in the area of livestock to bear in the nation's economy.

He said: "We have been talking and learning about Nigeria. We had the privilege to meet the Nigerian delegation in Brazil when President Bola Tinubu visited our country. We see Nigeria as the hub of Africa with a very large population.

"Though it is our first time in Nigeria, we feel that we have a lot of similarities between Brazil and Nigeria. We have a very good impression so far about Nigeria and Nigerians.

"We are serious about coming to Nigeria to invest in beef, pork, chicken, among others. We see growth prospects in Nigeria and what Nigerian leaders are doing in encouraging investors to come and make significant investments here. We can bring our knowledge and expertise to bear in Nigeria's economy."

Giving a brief background of the company, Mr. Wesley Batista disclosed that it started in 1953 with slaughtering one cow per day and grew to 600 heads of cattle in one beef plant per day in 1957, becoming the largest beef player in Brazil in the 1990s.

"In the beginning of 2000, we started looking for opportunities to go beyond Brazil, and in 2005, we started in Argentina, and in 2007, we went to the United States and Australia. JBS is our biggest business under our holding company," he added.

Batista said the organization currently has a revenue of about $75bn and 280,000 direct members who operate hundreds of facilities across Brazil, the USA, Mexico, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Italy, and France, among others.

According to the Controlling Shareholder, the company processes 80,000 heads of cattle, 15 million chickens, about 25,000 heads of lamb per day, and also produces packaged products like sausages and bacon, while they also hold interests in other sectors like energy, the paper-producing industry, banking and finance, as well as soap and toiletries.

Giving a brief about the State titled "Unlocking the Future of Livestock Processing and Other Opportunities," Governor Abiodun said the state, with more than 16,000 square kilometers, offers an ideal location for investments as it provides unique connections to the 17 southern states as well as the northern parts of the country.

"We have provided, in terms of infrastructure, 1,000 kilometers of highways and the best-constructed airport in Nigeria, specially dedicated to agro imports and exports.

"We are number one in non-oil, as two-thirds of the state sits on limestone. Our state is the third-largest producer of cement in Africa, trailing behind Morocco, which is second, and Egypt, which is first.

"The State also has gold, silica, bitumen, and others which are too numerous to mention. We have gas reticulation more than any other state. There are two major gas pipelines that crisscross our state," he stated.

Governor Abiodun noted that Ogun is going into power generation and distribution, assuring that industries and companies that operate in the State would have access to the cheapest power supply in the country.

On the acquisition of land, the governor said it has been made seamless as land title documents would be made ready within 30 days, assuring that his administration has invested significantly in security to guarantee the safety of lives and properties of those who live and work in the State.

While assuring that his administration would collaborate with the government of President Bola Tinubu to ensure food sufficiency and security, Governor Abiodun said efforts would be made to reduce food scarcity and inflation in the State and country.

He lauded the company for rising from humble beginnings to become the largest protein producer in the world, saying his administration is looking forward to seeing the company establish itself in the State.

The leader of the delegation, John Coumantaros, in his remarks, applauded the governor for opening up the State in the area of infrastructure, which he noted has pushed up investments and brought more development to the State.

He said President Tinubu's administration has set forth on changing the macro conditions of the country where everything works properly by embarking on the development of infrastructure corridors from East to West and North to South, adding that the JBS group was in the State to assess its viability for investment.

"Tinubu has made it possible to attract investors like this, and Governor Abiodun is here to make the program possible because protein is critical for the growth of Nigeria, building modern slaughterhouses, establishing piggery and poultry farms, and going back to see how we can produce maize and soya beans of good yields and its value chain from farm to customers, making the ecosystem beneficial to the growth of the country and the entire Gross Domestic Product," he noted.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Aisha Rimi, on her part, said the meeting is a follow-up to the technical team sent by the company to assess the potentials of the State for investment, adding that the company is ready to invest $2.5bn in the next five years in livestock, and Ogun State would be one of the States to benefit.

Tinubu Flags-Off Reconstruction of Lagos-Ibadan-Sagamu Expressway

President Bola Tinubu has flagged off the reconstruction and expansion of the Lagos-Ibadan Dual Carriageway, section 1, and section 1 of the Lagos-Sagamu Expressway.

Performing the flag-off at Sagamu, Ogun State, President Tinubu said the project, which would be completed in 24 months, would cover underpasses at Kara, Wawa, Magboro, and Arepo, while flyover bridges would be constructed at Kilometer 16 around the Mountain of Fire Ministries (MFM) and Kilometer 37 at Makun around Sagamu.

Pedestrian bridges, the president informed, would be constructed at Arepo, Magboro, NASFAT, Deeper Life, and Redemption Camp, while the construction of the 60 kilometers remaining portion of the Sagamu-Benin Expressway from Sagamu Interchange to Itele would be flagged off to ensure the safety of road users.

Represented by the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the president acknowledged the strategic importance of the road as the busiest, providing a direct link between Lagos, the commercial capital of the nation, and the 17 southern states of the federation.

He said: "The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is not just another road; it is the busiest highway in Nigeria and the gateway to the hinterland, serving as the primary link between Lagos, the nation's commercial capital, and the rest of the country.

"The federal government is committed to leveraging our natural resources by linking rural roads to urban centers, commercial hubs, and industrial corridors. The strategic roles align with the federal government's Renewed Hope Agenda and commitment to rebuilding, expanding, and modernizing our national road networks, railways, and airports, which is critical to the nation's economic prosperity."

President Tinubu emphasized the importance of road infrastructure as fundamental to the socio-economics of any nation; it sustains economic growth, facilitates mobility, and enhances quality of life. 

However, he regretted the long neglect of the road, which has claimed many lives as a result of its poor condition.

He said that by upgrading and expanding the expressway, the federal government is achieving a reduction in travel time, improving efficiency and productivity, enhancing safety, and facilitating ease of doing business in the country.

The president maintained that the inclusion of the Sagamu-Ore in this phase further underscored the Renewed Hope Agenda's vision of ensuring that national road networks meet international standards and support aspirations for economic expansion and industrial development.

Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, said: "In the Lagos-Ibadan project, we have section 2, phase 2, and part of what we are doing today is that phase 2, which was awarded to Julius Berger. When we could not resolve our differences in terms of price, we terminated the job.

"What we are doing today is part of the Lagos-Ibadan project, which is phase 2, and it includes the works on Magboro underpass, Warewa underpass, Arepo underpass, Sagamu, and Iperu; that is 12 kilometers by 2, which is 24.

"The next phase of this job is also 48 kilometers by 2, that takes off from Iperu and gets to Ijebu-Ode. That is the Sagamu-Ore road."

The Minister directed that no payment should be made to contractors without an Advanced Payment Guarantee (APG) certificate, adding that it must be valid at the time of payment to the contractor, and the Performance Bond must also be valid before any payment is made to the contractor.

Chairman of the House Committee on Works, Hon. Akin Alabi, said the House is poised to work with the Ministry to ensure that Nigerians have access to good road networks, stating that the road is not just for the people of Ogun State alone as it would affect the economic lives of Nigerians.

The Ogun State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, expressed gratitude to the federal government for including footbridges in the project, assuring that the State would work with the contractor and federal government officials to ensure the speedy completion of the job.

The Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, while calling for the construction of two flyovers at the Sagamu junction and at the police divisional junction, also called for the construction of a fire station to respond to fire incidents on the road.

Governor Abiodun later performed the flagging-off of the project on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.

Abiodun Condoles Otegbola's Family Over Passing of Ex-Lawmaker

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has commiserated with the family of former lawmaker, Sen. Ayodeji Otegbola, over his demise, describing him as a cerebral politician and selfless community leader.

Otegbola, who represented Ogun West Senatorial District at the Red Chamber during the aborted Third Republic, reportedly died on Monday at the age of 91.

Governor Abiodun, in a condolence message, eulogised the distinct virtues of the late Asiwaju of Awori land, including his passion for community cohesion and development, adding that he exhibited the core values of a grassroots politician.

He added that Otegbola's contributions to the development of Ogun State and Nigeria at large would remain indelible in the consciousness of the people for a very long time, as he prayed for the repose of his soul.

"Senator Ayo Otegbola exemplified the essence of a thought leader with a midas touch. As the Chairman of Federal Housing Authority between 2002 and 2004, he brought his deep experience in estate surveying to bear on the job, which accelerated housing schemes all over Nigeria , including the FCT.

"His legacies projects in Gwarinpa Housing Schemes and many others around the FCT can never be over-emphasized, he was indeed an achiever and great leader.

"We will sorely miss him in Ogun State and Nigeria at large. May God Almighty rest his soul and protect the lovely family he left behind", Abiodun said.

'Don't Blame Ogun Govt for Recklessness of Hit-and-Run Driver'

The Ogun State Government said it cannot be blamed for the death of a resident of Wole Soyinka-Kemta-Idi-Aba-Somorin road, Prof. Oladipo Ademuyiwa, caused by a reckless hit-and-run driver.

The government noted that it is unfair and mischievous for anyone to blame it for the death of the professor.

The government, in a statement in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, regretted that the same residents were blaming the government when the road was in a terrible state.

The statement stated that the 7.3 km road is one of over 700 kilometers of roads rehabilitated or constructed across the state for the use of residents and commuters alike by the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration, pointing out that apart from providing necessary infrastructure in line with international standards, speed breakers and other safety measures were also installed to protect road users and their properties and check reckless driving on the road.

It has been established that Prof. Ademuyiwa was knocked down by a reckless driver who did not comply with established traffic rules and regulations.

The government said that while it sympathizes with the victim's family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors, it is irresponsible to blame it for the unfortunate incident.

"Just last December, in response to the call of the communities in the area, the government installed a total of 11 speed breakers in addition to the one earlier installed on the road. This is apart from other relevant road signs that have been strategically placed to guide drivers and other commuters plying the road.

"While we deeply sympathize with the family, colleagues and other community members of the late Prof. Ademuyiwa, we wish to call on all relevant stakeholders to embark on sensitization of all categories of road users, particularly motorists on the importance  of obeying traffic rules and regulations across the state at all times in order to prevent such unfortunate incidents in future," the statement added.

Clark's exit, glorious conclusion of monumental chapter in Nigerian history--SGF chair, Dapo Abiodun

 

Chairman of the Southern Governors Forum, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has described the death of  Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), leader, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, as a profound loss to Nigeria, yet a glorious conclusion of a monumental chapter in Nigerian history.

Abiodun, who described the former Federal Commissioner for Information as one of the greatest leaders ever produced by the South-South geopolitical zone of the country and arguably the most engaging voice for the redressing of decades of exploitation and marginalisation of the Niger Delta peoples, said the exit of the foremost nationalist, educationist, legal practitioner, freedom fighter and restructuring advocate marks an era that can never be forgotten.

In a statement issued in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Tuesday, Abiodun said whatever sorrow the exit of the foremost Ijaw leader springs has been tempered by the giant strides he left in various sectors of the Nigerian national life and the unimpeachable accomplishments he achieved in about 70 years of distinguished national service.

He said: "The exit of Pa Edwin Kiagbodo Clark at 97 marks a watershed in Nigerian history. As a man who lived through the struggles and triumphs of the colonial, Independence and post-independence eras with all the twists and turns, Chief Clark was simply a personification of Nigerian history. He served with distinction for about seven decades and was one of the most accomplished voices of courage and progressivism that Nigeria has ever witnessed.

"The outpouring of emotions following his death, coming on the heels of the transition of a kindred spirit, the inimitable Pa Ayo Adebanjo, indeed marks a moment that all Nigerians must be proud of.

"His activities during the pre-independence period when he was elected as Councillor for Bomadi in 1953 and during his stint with the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC), not forgetting his deeply intellectual posture as a member of the West African Students' Union while a student at Holborn College, London, marks him out as a patriot without compare.

"From his indelible imprints in the 60s when he served as a member of an advisory committee to the military governor of the Mid-Western Region province, David Ejoor and as a cabinet member during the administration of Military Governor Samuel Ogbemudia and his appointment as Federal Commissioner of Information in 1975 by the then Head of state, General Yakubu Gowon, in 1975, Chief Clark demonstrated unwavering commitment to the Nigerian cause.

"As commissioner for education, Chief Clark was instrumental to the establishment of the Mid-West College of Technology that later birthed the University of Benin. The ex-senator and founder of Edwin Clark University loved education with unblemished passion. 

"Despite his advancing years, Chief Clark readily and consistently wrote letters to critical organs of the Nigerian State whenever he saw dangerous signals in the polity. He will be sorely missed."

"He was a courageous fighter till literally his last breath, galvanising the Southern and Middle Belt peoples for the restructuring of the Nigerian polity and preaching peace at all times. He was indeed a patriot of the finest breed."

Alleged N5.78b Fraud: Ahmed, Ex-Kwara Governor Diverted UBEC Funds-Witness

The First Prosecution Witness (PW1), Abubakar Hassan in the trial of former governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, and his Commissioner for Finance, Ademola Banu on Monday, February 17, 2025, told Justice Mahmud Abdulgafar of the State High Court, sitting in Ilorin that the first defendant diverted to personal use, funds earmarked for Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) projects in the state.

 The Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC is prosecuting both defendants on a 12-count charge of mismanagement and misappropriation of public funds to the tune of N5.78 billion.

The witness, an Assistant Director of Finance in UBEC, while being led in evidence by prosecution, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, disclosed that a total of 51 UBEC 

projects approved under the 2013 Action Plan were abandoned under former Governor Ahmed due to a lack of funds. The projects, discovered by the UBEC Project Monitoring Committee in the state were abandoned despite

 UBEC’s approval for citing them in state and funds for their execution, released. According to the witness, the state government under the leadership of the defendant mismanaged the funds.

"My lord, the Projects Monitoring 

Committee conducted investigations and found that many projects were either unexecuted or abandoned. We wrote to the then Kwara State governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, in May 2018 to address these issues. The projects were categorized into three: Early Care Education, Primary School Education, and Junior Secondary School Education, but we received no response," he said.

He further explained that the abandoned projects were scattered all through the 16 Local Government Areas of the state and further revealed that on January 6, 2015, the sum N1 billion had to be loaned from the 2013 UBEC Matching Grant Account with Skye Bank Plc to pay staff salaries and pensions.

Addressing the utilization of the 2014 and 2015 State Counterpart Funds, he stated that the Kwara SUBEB illegally withdrew the sum of N1,829,054,054.06 

(None Billion, Eight Hundred and Twenty-nine Million, Fifty-four Thousand, Fifty-four, Six Kobo) from funds lodged on February 18, 2016, stating that the withdrawn funds qualified the state to access the Federal Government’s UBE Matching Grants.

"State Matching Grants are not permitted to be borrowed or utilized for any purpose outside the approved action plan. The objectives of UBEC were undermined due to these infractions and the failure to implement the Action Plan," he said.

Worried by the diversion of the funds, the witness disclosed that UBEC also had

 to send a letter of invitation to the state government, 

requesting a documentary evidence 

on Kwara State Government’s use of UBEC funds. Attached to the invite were 

documents showing the lodgment of funds from UBEC to the Kwara SUBEB.

Justice Abdulgafar adjourned the matter until February 18, 2025, for cross-examination of the witness.

Ogun To Get Uninterrupted Electricity as Abiodun Commissions Power Plant in Eight weeks Time

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun,CON, has disclosed that an Independent Power Plant that would provide 24 hours uninterrupted electricity to most parts of the State, especially Abeokuta, the State capital, would be ready for commissioning in the next eight weeks.

Governor Abiodun who stated this after inspecting the 30 Megawatts power plant located at Onijogangan near Ewekoro, noted that the project which is in collaboration with private sector partners, is the first phase of Ogun State Light Up Project.

According to the governor, the project is in line with his promise to provide uninterrupted power supply to major cities and towns across the State.

He said, "what we are doing today is to witness the first phase of the implementation of our Ogun State Light Up Project. The first phase of this project is the 30 Megawatts power generation that will take care of Abeokuta. 

"Abeokuta Metropolis will require more than 30 Megawatts but this is the first phase of the planned 100 Megawatts Megawatts power generation capacity. I have gone round and have taken note of progress of work so far.

"I have seen the control room, I have seen the turbines, I have seen that will be responsible for ensuring that the gas is compressed. We have seen the gas pipelines that will be completed between three to six weeks. The gas compressor is there and there is diesel tank as well.

"I am quite excited and I am sure that by the grace of God in th next eight weeks, you will be here with me to commission this plant to the glory of God and the use of those who love in Abeokuta.

"I can assure you that once this has been achieved though we may not be able to supply power to the whole of Abeokuta, but substantial parts of the city will now enjoy 24 hours uninterrupted power supply and that will be unprecedented in the history of Ogun State".

Abiodun who was impressed with the high quality of work done at the site, observed that the plant apart from using compressed gas as its main fuel, would also make use of diesel as a back up incase of disruption in the supply of gas.

"We believe that between two to three weeks, thet will begin soft commissioning using diesel while the gas pipelines is being extended to this place. We estimate that between six to eight weeks, the first phase of this power plant will be completed and ready for commissioning", the governor assured.

The power plant, the governor emphasized, would provide constant electricity to government institutions like offices, health facilities, government quarters, police stations, local government offices and higher institutions and would eventually cascades to private individuals and industries when the capacity is increased.

He said the state decided to go into power generation, distribution and transmission as the result of its  removal from exclusive list by the federal government assuring similar plants would be built in Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode and Ota.

The Ogun State House of Assembly, the governor added,  has passed into law setting up Ogun State Electricity Regulatory Commission to oversee all the activities of the power sector in Ogun State, adding the agency is to provide oversight to anyone that wants to go into power business in the State.

Speaking, the Project Manager, Mr. Selvin Leo, said the project is 90 percent completed, assuring that with the availability of needed materials, equipment and commitment of the workers, the job would be completed in record time.

STREET TRADING,OGUN SHUT ADATAN MARKET

 

After several warnings about hazards of street trading and the need for them to obey the state's Environmental Laws which forbids it,the Ogun State Government has today shut the Adatan Market in Abeokuta.

In shutting the market,Special Adviser to the Governor on Environmental Protection Agency OGEPA who doubles as the Chairman of the state's Taskforce on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, Alhaji Farook Akintunde,said all entrieties, sensitization made to the traders to persuade them from trading on the walkways,roads and drainage channels in the market proved abortive and the state government had no option that shutting it.

"Aside from these,the traders build shanties and makeshift structures on the drainage channels which are not only illegal but are filled with waste which will inhibit free flow of erosion water that will lead to flooding when raining season gets underway"

Akintunde said the market will remain shut until the traders clear all the drainage channels of all the silts and clean the entire market spaces and sign an agreement that they will not engage in street trading which are not only inimical to the traders but against the state Environmental Laws.

Ogun State Government Refutes Ondo’s Claim Over Eba Island, Warns Against Communal Crisis

The Ogun State Government has firmly dismissed claims by its Ondo State counterpart regarding the ownership of Eba Island, where an oil well is currently under investigation. It emphasized that the island falls within Ogun State’s jurisdiction and cautioned against any attempt to stir communal tensions between the Ijebu and Ilaje peoples, who have historically coexisted peacefully.

The controversy arose after Allen Sowore, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Strategic Communication, issued a statement asserting that Oke-Agor-Isekun, where an abandoned oil well was discovered, belongs to Ondo State and not Ogun State.

In response, Special Adviser to Ogun State Governor on Energy, Mr. Jide Onakoya, described Ondo’s claim as misleading and contrary to established historical, traditional, and legal evidence. It labeled the assertion as an affront to the Awujale of Ijebu Land and the Ijebu Traditional Council, reiterating that historical records and documented evidence confirm that the disputed area is within Ogun State.

Onakoya clarified that boundary delineations between local and state governments are based on markers recognized by the National Boundary Commission. A thorough examination of relevant maps affirms that Eba Island lies within Ogun Waterside in Ogun State.

Quoting a document from the Palace of Makun-Omi, the statement asserted:

“…. It is INDISPUTABLE that the oil well currently under investigation is located in Eba Island, which falls within Ogun Waterside in Ogun State."

Furthermore, Ogun State condemned Ondo’s claim over Irokun, a community in Ogun Waterside, calling it a reckless attempt to incite conflict. It emphasized that Irokun has been an Ijebu settlement since the colonial era, transitioning through the Western Region to Ogun State. The geographical boundary declarations along the Bight of Benin confirm Irokun and Araromi Seaside as part of Ogun State, with the Onirokun of Irokun being a recognized member of the Ijebu Traditional Council.

Addressing the origins of the misinformation, the Ogun State Government pointed to Oba Samuel Edema, the Molokun of Atijere in Ondo State, as a key instigator. It revealed that in October 2024, Oba Edema contacted Oba Kazeem Adesina Salami, the Osobia of Makun-Omi, seeking permission for a business venture in Eba Island, located in Ogun Waterside. However, the Osobia of Makun-Omi, acting lawfully, declined the request and promptly reported the matter to the Governor of Ogun State, who escalated it to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and security agencies.

Following this, officials from the NNPC and law enforcement agencies visited the area to conduct due diligence. Ogun State asserted that Ondo’s reaction to this legitimate action resulted in a misleading communiqué from the Ilaje Traditional Council, further escalating tensions.

The government condemned attempts at territorial expansion and the misuse of colonial-era documents to justify claims that contradict Nigeria’s constitutional framework. It cited Colonial Government Gazette No. 660, dated April 29, 1950, which clearly defined the boundary between the Ijebu and Ondo provinces, overriding earlier documents such as Government Notices No. 69 of 1919 and No. 114 of 1920. The Gazette, signed by Acting Chief Secretary to the Colonial Government, H.F. Marshall, solidifies Ogun State’s ownership of the disputed territory.

Ogun State reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and urged stakeholders to respect legal boundaries to avoid unnecessary conflict.

Court of Appeal never dismissed our case against Datkems---Ogun govt

The Ogun State Government has dismissed news reports claiming that the Court of Appeal dismissed an appeal filed by it in a case against Datkems, a company associated with the senator representing Ogun East in the National Assembly, Gbenga Daniel.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to the governor, Hon Kayode Akinmade, on Wednesday, the Ogun State government noted that it merely withdrew one of the four appeals it filed against Datkems in the court having noticed an error in the title, adding that all the appeals are still pending against the company.

This withdrawal, it said, was falsely misrepresented as a judicial victory with intent to deceive the public even while the Court of Appeal is yet to make any pronouncement on the substantive issues and while Datkems was yet to file any cogent response to the allegations against it.

The statement said: "Ogun State Government still has three pending appeals against Datkems before the Ibadan Division of the Court of Appeal. 

"With respect to a fourth appeal, the government observed an error in the title of the Notice of Appeal and opted to not proceed with that appeal but to file another. Because the government had expressly informed the court of its decision to 

abandon the appeal, the court took a procedural decision to end the appeal and to delete the appeal number. This is without prejudice to the right of the Ogun State Government to reinitiate the appeal.  

"The fact remains that Ogun State Government still has three strong appeals against Datkems business. Those appeals are pending, ongoing, and have been adjourned to 19 May 2025 for hearing. Datkems is yet to submit any arguments in those appeals."

Noting that Datkems is understandably eager to exaggerate its position in the court cases, just as it was eager to misrepresent its legal status in the court cases too, the statement recalled that Datkems filed the case against Ogun State Government on 7 September 2023, describing itself as Datkems Enterprises Limited, but Ogun State Government’s diligent investigation exposed it to be a fraud, as no company had ever been registered called Datkems Enterprises. 

This, it said, made the case incompetent.

 "Datkems had no answer to that point at the trial court and has no answer till today.

" That is why rather than face the appeals, it is busy presenting minor administrative decisions as huge judicial victories. Time will tell. And Ogun State Government will prevail," the statement added.

High Chief Akinmade died on August 5, 2024, at the age of 98. The burial ceremonies, according to the family, will take place between Friday, February 14, 2025, and Saturday, February 15, 2025.

While the wake-keep is scheduled to be held at No 30, Odolemo Street, Isalu Quarters, Odode Idanre, on February 14, 2025, the funeral service will be held at 10 a.m at the First Baptist Church, Idanre, Ondo State, on Saturday, February 15, 2025.

This will be followed by an internment at his residence while the entertainment of guests will take place at Olofin Grammar School, Odode, Idanre.

Gov. Abiodun Visits Alaperu's Palace, Describes Late Oba Idowu-Basibo as a Great Monarch

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has described the late Oba Adeleke Adelekan Idowu-Basibo, the Alaperu of Iperu, as a dependable, reliable, and quintessential monarch.

Governor Abiodun stated this during a condolence visit to the palace of the Alaperu on Saturday night.

Prince Abiodun, who described the death of the monarch as a personal loss and a significant loss to the entirety of Iperu and Remoland, said it is a void that will take several years to fill.

He acknowledged the contributions of the late monarch, who retired from the Customs to serve his people, noting that Oba Idowu-Basibo brought all his networks of goodwill into developing the town of Iperu.

"Kabiyesi brought all his networks of goodwill into developing Iperu. If you look back at the last 22-23 years and compare what Iperu was before he assumed the throne and today, the difference is already clear; it speaks for itself.

"Kabiyesi was very passionate about the progress, peace, and development of this town and its entire community," he said.

Governor Abiodun noted that the late monarch, whose official appointment letter was dated February 6, 2002, was also called home by God on the 6th of February, 2025.

He admonished the sons and daughters of the town to maintain law and order during the mourning period for the late Alaperu.

"I want to plead with all of us, and I want to thank the Lisa, Oluwo, and the high chiefs, Erelu, and all those who have ensured that there has been peace and orderliness since this happened.

"While I was busy grieving and mourning, I received some information that was really disturbing. I want to thank all those who ensured that orderliness was restored.

"I want to admonish that we ensure we sustain this peace and orderliness at this time.

"The whole town is grieving and mourning, and this is the least that we can do for our monarch. Let us accord him the respect and dignity that he deserves," he said.

The Governor noted that the state government would be setting up a committee to be headed by the Secretary to the State Government, working with members of the cabinet, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and members of the Iperu/Remo traditional council to ensure that the monarch is given a befitting send-off.

Earlier, in his remarks, the Lisa of Iperu, Chief Rotimi Odubona, thanked the Governor for his support to the family, even as he urged him to help the town and the family by ensuring that the monarch is buried without any delay.

OGUN REAFFIRMS ITS CONTINUOUS COMMITMENT TO CLEANER ENVIRONMENT

 

Ogun State government has reaffirmed its continuous commitment to a cleaner, safer and healthier environment through effective, efficient and  sustainable environmental management.

Deputy Governor of the state,Engr Noimot Salako-Oyelede stated this while declaring open the 2025 Management Retreat of the Ministry of Environment and her sister Agencies - the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency OGEPA and the Ogun State Waste Management Authority OGWAMA with the theme "Streamlining Policy Implementation Objectives in Environmental Governance in Abeokuta.

She said the retreat presents a strategic opportunity for deep reflection,planning and realignment of the state environmental policies and governance framework which will ensure efficiency in environmental service delivery across the state .

Engineer Salako-Oyedele therefore enjoined the Ministry and her sister agencies to strengthen inter- agency collaboration for more effective policy implementation and ensure that the state's environmental policies align with national and global sustainability goals adding that the state government understands that a  clean, safe and well-managed environment is essential for economic growth, public health and overall societal well-being. 

Welcoming participants earlier, Commissioner for Environment,Dr Ola Oresanya emphasized the need for continuous manpower development through training to enhance capacity at the management level  for efficient and effective service delivery saying these necessitated the retreat, the third in last three years and called on the participants to make the best use of the opportunity.

Ogun govt frowns at Portable's rascality, calls for caution

Ogun State Government has condemned in totality the level of rascality displayed by a controversial Hip-hop artiste, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as portable over his reckless behaviour towards the officials of the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA) at his bar located around  Iyana Ilogbo, in Ota area of the state.

A statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy,  ,  Hon.. Kayode Akinmade,  described portable as serial dissident and unrepentant rascal who have been in the habit of assaulting government officials without provocation.

Akinmade said the latest attack orchestrated by portable and his cohorts against government officials who were on their lawful assignment in the area was unacceptable and barbaric, saying such indecent act would be addressed in line with the extant law of the land. 

He averred that the behaviour of the Hip-hop artiste is becoming disgraceful and unbearable to the people of the area and the Government,  considering the degree of pandemonium and panic he causes any time he carried out such unpleasant acts in the area.

Akinmade therefore,  reiterated the stance of Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration to sanitize the state against every unlawful act and entrench decency in all strata, saying the government is serious about the distinct values of Omoluabi ethos at all times.

He said ", We are profoundly taken aback by the unpleasant and uncivil act of the Hip-hop artiste, Habeeb Okikiola,  popularly as Portable on Wednesday,  in Iyana- Ilogbo area of the State where is bar is located. 

"The way in which Portable and some set of miscreants he employed in the dastardly act attacked the officials of the OGPDPA is not only bizarre but a confirmation of erosion of Omoluabi ethos in those individuals and indeed a great disgrace t9 the state.

Abiodun mourns Alaperu of Iperu-Remo

 

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has described the transition of the Alaperu of Iperu-Remo, Oba Adeleke Adelekan Idowu-Basibo, as a deeply shocking, irreplaceable personal loss.

Abiodun, a prince of Iperu-Remo kingdom, added that even though he was still trying to come to terms with the news of the passing of the royal father, he  acknowledged the immutability of the counsel of Almighty God whose decision on human life no mortal can question.

Abiodun, who described the late monarch as a royal father, friend and confidante, said he was devastated to learn of the sudden passing of the highly distinguished, revered and beloved traditional ruler whose reign brought peace and prosperity to Iperu-Remo kingdom, Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole.

He said: "To say the very least, Oba Adeleke Adelekan Idowu-Basibo was a paragon of excellence. From his primary education at  St James Primary School to his  A-level at programme at The Polytechnic, Ibadan; University College London where he studied marine economics, the diploma programmes in importing and exporting at the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, and his PhD programme at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Oba Adeleke Adelekan Idowu-Basibo demonstrated undiluted excellence, which also hallmarked his distinguished career at the Customs Service in Europe that spanned two decades.

"His reign brought remarkable progress and development to Iperu-Remo kingdom in so many areas, from infrastructure development to economic advancement, and the expansion of the borders of peace and progress.

" He was a man of great grace who carried himself with dignity and saw to the wellbeing of his people at all times, regardless of creed or political affiliation. He will be sorely missed."

OGSG Pledges Revitalization of Water Sector

........as Special Adviser calls for LGs collaboration

The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed that revitalizing water infrastructure across the state remains a top priority of the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration.

The Special Adviser to the governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Water Resources, Hon. Damilola Otubanjo stated this during an infrastructural assessment tour of Remo, Odogbolu, and the surrounding areas as part of ongoing efforts to revamp the water sector across the state, focusing on addressing critical water management challenges, replacing outdated infrastructure, and overcoming funding and logistical constraints.

She expressed optimism that the government’s renewed focus on the sector would help resolve longstanding issues and improve water supply across the state.

“Many of our water infrastructure facilities are not functioning optimally, and there are concerns regarding the inadequate utilization of available funding. This is a major challenge, and there is a lot of work to be done. We must act swiftly to rehabilitate critical water infrastructure to provide clean and potable water to the people of Ogun State.

“We urge His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun, to support us in expanding water supply to more communities, as access to clean water is a fundamental necessity that requires urgent attention.

“I am confident that this administration, under the leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun, will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that residents have regular access to clean and potable water,” she stated.

Hon. Otubanjo further assured the public that, with a team of experts working alongside her, the state should expect significant improvements in the water sector, even as she emphasized that her team remains committed to identifying and resolving challenges within the sector.

Also speaking, Consultant to the Governor on Water, Alhaja Muinat Jaji, reassured residents that they can expect an improved and more efficient water supply.

She highlighted that the facility assessment also focuses on aging equipment, which the state government has pledged to rehabilitate.

Water schemes inspected included Ogere Water Surface Scheme – servicing Ogere, Iperu, Ilisan, Irolu, Ipara, Iperu Borstal Institution; Akaka Mini Scheme – covering Akaka and Ilara; Ilisan Borehole Scheme; Ikene Borehole Scheme; Odogbolu Reservoir; Ayepe-Ijebu Reservoir; and Sagamu Scheme.

Meanwhile, Hon. Otubanjo has called on local governments to take a more proactive role in addressing challenges in the water sector.

She emphasized the need for stronger collaboration with the state government to tackle aging infrastructure, improve maintenance, and enhance water accessibility for residents.

She noted that many communities still suffer from inadequate access to clean water due to poor maintenance and lack of intervention from local governments.

"Local governments must become active collaborators in progress. These water schemes are situated in their jurisdictions, and they need to take ownership of infrastructure maintenance. Beyond state, federal, or donor-funded interventions, local governments must ensure sustained operations and accountability in the sector," she stated.

Hon. Otubanjo further noted that as part of efforts to localize the SDGs, the state will establish SDG Desk Officers across all 20 local governments to facilitate partnerships on targeted SDG intervention projects and programs.

She stressed that local government leadership and their teams must play an active role in ensuring that allocated funds for rehabilitating aging pipelines and water networks are effectively utilized.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has felicitates the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, as he celebrates his 65th birthday.

In his message, Governor Abiodun hailed Adesina as an economic visionary whose contributions have significantly influenced the landscape of Africa's development.

In a statement issued in Abeokuta on Wednesday, Governor Abiodun noted the remarkable journey of Dr. Adesina since he took the helm of the AfDB in 2015.

"Under his stewardship, the African Development Bank has transformed into a beacon of hope and progress for our continent," he stated.

The governor emphasized that Adesina’s leadership has not only enhanced the bank's reputation but has also fortified its role as a pivotal institution dedicated to the economic upliftment of African nations.

Born on February 6, 1960, Adesina’s illustrious career in economics and development has been marked by his unwavering commitment to the cause of Africa’s growth.

His election as the President of the AfDB in 2015, followed by his re-election in 2020, underscores the confidence that member countries have in his vision and capabilities, the governor said.

Public Assault; Ogun State Government Suspends Olorile of Orile-Ifo for six months

 

In a bid to ensuring dignity of persons and for the protection of sanctity of our revered traditional institution, the Ogun State Government led by Prince Dapo Abiodun, has placed Oba Abdulsemiu Adewale Ogunjobi, the Olorile of Orile-Ifo on six months suspension for his uncivil conduct not befitting the status of an Oba. 

The decision was reached after the Kabiyesi and his victim were invited by the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Local Govt and Chieftaincy Affairs for interrogation.

This became imperative as a result of the reckless utterances and public misconduct of the Kabiyesi as it was evident in the social media and being bandied in the larger public space. 

After the investigation conducted on the matter, the Kabiyesi has been suspended and stripped of the paraphernalia of the stool of Olorile-Ifo pending the determination of his culpability or otherwise on the allegation.

The foregoing decision was reached by the Ministry in conjunction with the Egba Traditional Council in accordance with Section 52(1) of the Obas and Chiefs' Law of Ogun State 2021.

WASTE MANAGEMENT,OGUN MANDATES RESIDENTIAL PREMISES TO CONTAINERIZE THEIR WASTE

 

Ogun State Government has mandated all residential houses in the state to henceforth containerize their waste by providing covered waste containers in front of their premises for effective waste management.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment and Managing Director of Ogun State Waste Management Authority OGWAMA,Hon Abayomi Semako Hunye made this known in a statement in Abeokuta today.

He said the order because necessary to make waste collection at this domestic level better organized through containerization and bring in more residential premises into waste management system that hitherto dump or burn their waste into unauthorized places which have negative effects on the environment.

Hunye said the residents of those premises concerned are free to purchase their containers from open markets or make special arrangements with the Waste Private Sector Participants assigned to their communities.

"This new order will not only bring in more premises into the system but will discourage waste been dropped into uncovered plastics, nylons,cans and  sacks which will fly about at the slightest opportunity making the environment untidy,unsafe and unhealthy for human habitation.

To sustain the new order since the collectors are Private Sector Participants assigned to different communities, Hunye said each residential premises are to pay a token to the PSP that service them in form of waste bill while the state government will augment the payment.

"The subsidized residential waste bill is a proof that residents in a particular premise subscribed into the waste service and not the real cost of waste collections from their premises which is much more higher" "The subscribed waste bill also give residents the opportunity to have this important document which are now used for documentation in local,national, international and financial documentations and transactions "

For those premises which are not accessible by waste trucks and feared not been serviced after complying with the new order,Hunye assured them of adequate services as waste tricycles will be deployed to service them and called for the cooperation of all residents and Community Development Associations to made the new order a huge success for the overall interest and well-being of all.

Ogun Govt Warns Residents Against Damaging Water Infrastructure

 

The Ogun State government has strongly warned residents of the state, especially contractors working around communities within the state, against damaging water infrastructure, stating that it will arrest and prosecute such individuals.

The state water corporation, in a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Water Resources, Hon. Damilola Otubanjo further condemned the deliberate attempts by some residents to willfully destroy basic water infrastructure, accusing contractors of destroying pipes along the road during construction without making efforts to replace them.

According to her, the corporation is already battling aged and deteriorating facilities without replacement by successive administrations in the state.

It, however, promised to rehabilitate and upgrade that infrastructure to improve the quality of potable water supply to the residents, lamenting that these efforts are being frustrated by the constant damage to its facilities.

"As we are fully committed to rehabilitating and upgrading our water supply networks, one pipe at a time, our efforts to enhance the water sector and ensure the provision of potable water to the citizens of Ogun State are being greatly hampered by the insensitive activities of road contractors.

"These contractors, driven solely by the urgency of road construction, frequently damage our underground pipeline networks with little regard for the consequences of their actions.

"This persistent and avoidable damage has significantly contributed to the rise in Non-Revenue Water (NRW), leading to substantial losses in resources, increased operational costs, and a decline in service efficiency.

"The repercussions of these avoidable infrastructure damages include a high volume of wasted treated water, with bursts and leaks resulting in a massive loss of water that has already undergone rigorous treatment, causing an unnecessary depletion of our limited resources.

"Also, there are escalating repair costs, as frequent damage to pipelines imposes a heavy financial burden on OSWC, diverting funds that could otherwise be used for infrastructure upgrades and service improvements; increased risk of contamination as broken pipes expose treated water to external contaminants, posing serious health hazards to the residents of Ogun State.

"There are disruptions in water supply, as burst pipes lead to service interruptions, depriving communities of access to clean and safe drinking water, and loss of revenue, with damaged pipes resulting in financial losses due to wasted resources and uncollected water revenue.

"Reputational damage to OSWC – Service disruptions and inefficiencies caused by these damages create a false perception of negligence on the part of OSWC, thereby eroding public confidence in our ability to provide essential services."

The corporation reiterated its stance against any act damaging its infrastructure, stating that such behavior will no longer be tolerated, as it will take decisive measures to hold offenders accountable for any damage inflicted upon its assets by enforcing stricter collaboration between OSWC and road construction firms to ensure pre-construction assessments of water pipelines.

Additionally, it stated that the corporation is set to strengthen monitoring and rapid response mechanisms to address incidents of damage swiftly, as well as enhancing public awareness among other measures.

It continued: "The OSWC remains resolute in its commitment to improving water supply across Ogun State. However, these efforts must be supported by responsible practices from all stakeholders, particularly construction companies and contractors. We call on all relevant authorities, agencies, and the general public to join us in preserving and protecting our water assets for the benefit of all.

"We urge road contractors and all stakeholders to act with a sense of responsibility and prioritize infrastructure protection as a fundamental aspect of their operations. Any deliberate or negligent act that compromises our water distribution network will be met with decisive action."
