The Works and Housing Department of Ewekoro Local Government has scored another first as a department to celebrate end of the year party to appreciate the faithfulness of God in 2024 and commit 2025 to the able hands of Almighty God.

In his opening remarks at the event, held at the Local Government Secretariat, Itori, the highly delighted Director Of Works and Housing, Ewekoro Local Government, Bldr.(Prince)Luqman Adekunle Asade  gave thanks to God for His sustainabilitgh 2024 , " God has been wonderful to us collectively and individually and i really appreciate God for seeing us through the thick and thin."

According to Bldr. Asade , " Works and Housing department is always at the fore-front in every positive thing , meaning, it has always been Works department and others, we lead and others follow."

" For the past 26 years or thereabout that i have been in the department, the department is always in one accord, even, during the NULGE Elections, we always speak with one voice and act in togetherness and by the grace of God, Works and Housing department will remain indivisible. Next year's edition will be more elaborate, "-- Bldr.Asade stated.

He seized the opportunity to appreciate the end of the year party planning committee, chaired by Mr. Fadipe Sabur Adewale for a job well done and not forgetting all members of staff of the department for their cooperation and financial support, adding, " It is not easy, most especially at this period of economic doldrums for them but they still comply without any grudges, contributing to the historic get-together."

" It's not the case of the Director single-handedly sponsoring the party but my people had good understanding and good discussion concerning the party as everybody fell in  line. The only thing that we did was that everyone contributed according to their capabilities."

Bldr. Asade , therefore, assured them of better welfare package in 2025 for the Works department staffs , saying, " I promise you before God and man , that I will not deprive you of your right,"--he concluded.

The Head Of Local Government Administration, Mrs Solomon Elizabeth A, who joined members of staff of the department, commended them for organizing such party to thank God for His protection and success of 2024.

"I have not seen this kind of party before, being organized by a department, certainly, this will be the first time."

"This means you are having a very cordial relationship.When you work in team , you achieve better,"--she said 

"God will stand by your department.We are all civil servants, you will all reach the Pinnacle of your career and land safely at the appropriate time."

The astute administrator and environmental expert, equally, spoke on the award, saying, " It is a welcome idea, it will encourage the awardees while it will also serve motivation for others to strive more in the discharge of their duties. The planning committee has done a great job in the selection of the awardees because the announcement of the awardees was greeted with loud ovation, meaning , everybody concur with the planning committee."

In his vote of thanks, the Chairman, Planning Committee, Mr. Fadipe Sabur Adewale, on behalf of the committee members, thanked God for the opportunity and the success of the event.

" This programme is to make ourselves happy and be thankful to God for His faithfulness upon our lives and families in 2024."

While preaching the spirit of love , Mr. Fadipe, emphasizing, " Love knows no bound, therefore, I want to appeal to our people that wherever we find ourselves, we must exhibit genuine love either in office, family settings or any society,"

The highpoint of the event was the presentation of  cash by the Head Of Local Government Administration, Mrs Solomon Elizabeth A, on behalf of Works and Housing department to the awardees, Engineer Adelugba Francis, the best dressed staff and Mr. Dosunmu Folorunso, the most outstanding staff.

Ogun to Construct Anthony Joshua Indoor Boxing Ring---Abiodun

 

...Ex-boxing champion to light torch of National Sports Festival in May

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON has announced plans by his administration to construct a brand new Anthony Joshua Indoor Boxing Ring in the state.

Prince Abiodun also announced that the two-time former world heavyweight boxing champion would be lighting the Gateway Games National Sports Festival torch, which has been postponed to May next year.

The Gateway State Governor made this known on Monday when he hosted the two-time world heavyweight boxing champion in his office.

"I want to openly request that, besides the fact that today we are going to officially confirm you as our sports ambassador, we want to request that you come back to light up the Gateway Sports Festival torch; you will be the one lighting it up.

"We are going to construct a brand new Anthony Joshua Indoor Boxing Ring, and that boxing ring will be in a stadium here in Abeokuta to ensure that you come home more frequently. Besides the fact that you are now our official sports ambassador, we have decided that we will give you a brand new house in Sagamu," he said.

The Governor urged Anthony Joshua to find ways of supporting the state in the area of sports development by working alongside the Director General of the National Sports Commission and the state Commissioner for Sports Development to host a boxing championship in the state.

"We want to plead that you also find ways to support us back home. We believe that we should have tournaments planned leading to the sports festival, and you were expressing how you will participate and what you can do to mentor.

"We leave you to work with our Director General of the National Sports Commission and the Commissioner for Sports Development on what we can do to ensure that we have activities leading to the sports festival in your boxing arena.

"Proudly, we bid for the National Sports Festival for this year, and we won that bid. The festival was supposed to be in January; however, for some technical reasons, it's been postponed to sometime in May.

"In preparation for the sports festival, we are spending a lot of money; we are totally refurbishing, rehabilitating, and reconstructing our sporting facilities. As you know, sports is a universal language; it brings people from different parts of the world together," he said.

The Governor noted that the state is blessed with many talents spread across music, arts, and sports who are doing very well and, at the same time, placing the state on the world map.

Prince Abiodun added that the state is extremely proud of the achievements of Anthony Joshua on the world stage, saying that his administration would support his career in every way it can.

"Your coming back home will be a source of motivation and inspiration for many young men who are aspiring sportsmen, and we have quite a lot of them in Ogun State.

"I want to congratulate you on what you have achieved in such a short span of time. You've made a short story of your life and your career.

"Whatever we can do to encourage you to continue to win more laurels for yourself, your family, for the state, and Nigeria, be assured that we will be more than happy to do that. We watch your career grow, and we are going to support your career in every way we can," he said.

Earlier in his remarks, Anthony Joshua noted that he would work towards promoting Ogun State to the rest of the world by showcasing the numerous talents in the state.

Abiodun Signs N1.054trn Appropriation Bill into Law

....to kickstart development of Olokola Port

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON  has signed the N1.054 trillion 2025 State Appropriation Bill into law.

The signing, which took place at the Governor's Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, was witnessed by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, principal officers of the House, the Deputy Governor, and members of the State Executive Council.

Speaking after receiving the clean copies of the Bill, Governor Abiodun announced that his administration would, in the coming month, sign the partnership agreement with potential partners for the development of the Olokola Sea Port.

He said the government would also focus on the provision of more basic infrastructure with the signing of more Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with private corporate bodies in renewable energy, agriculture, and other sectors that would boost the State's economy.

He said: "It is my pleasure to announce to you that in the coming month, we will be signing the partnership agreement with potential partners in our port development. The Olokola Port is back on track.

"In the coming year, you will see us signing more Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with private players in the areas of renewable energy, energy transition, and agriculture, particularly animal husbandry. We intend to join the league of those producing beef and pork, not just for domestic consumption, but for export.

"We will continue to provide more infrastructure, particularly roads, in every local government in the State. We will continue in our stride to provide the right infrastructure and the right situation to ensure that students in Ogun State learn in a conducive environment. We will continue to pursue our healthcare program in primary health care, secondary, and tertiary, and of course, our policy on 'grow what you eat and eat what you grow.' We are going to be more aggressive in the area of agriculture." 

While noting that his administration would be relentless in the pursuit of infrastructure that would engender more socio-economic development, Governor Abiodun revealed that emphasis on arterial roads like the Ijebu-Ode-Epe, Sagamu-Abeokuta, Atan-Lusada-Agbara, Ota-Abeokuta, and Ilaro-Owode roads had played important roles as they had helped to improve the State's Internally Generated Revenue through the influx of more people and industries.

He acknowledged the difficulties people are going through due to the bold policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration to pull the country out of the woods but maintained that his administration had risen to the occasion by providing needed palliatives to cushion the effects and help the people navigate the period.

"I want to assure you that we can only hope for more wins in the future. It has been a very difficult year for us all, not just as a state but as a country. Our President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, started his tenure with very bold reforms that have resulted in some unintended consequences that we must all endure so that we can have a country that is solvent," he added

He appreciated members of the Assembly for the speedy passage of the Bill after due diligence and commended their high level of commitment to their constituents and the state, noting that their collaboration with the executive arm had led to the state growing in leaps and bounds.

Speaking earlier, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, noted that the speedy passage of the Bill was in keeping with the promise made to the governor when he presented the Bill to the assembly on the 4th of December this year, adding that no budget bill had been passed before Christmas in the past.

While appreciating the governor for the facelift given to the Assembly Complex, Rt. Hon. Elemide said his colleagues worked tirelessly to ensure that the budget was passed on time so as to keep the wheels of the state's progress moving.

He assured that the Assembly would continue collaborating with the other arms of government to ensure that the people enjoy the dividends of democracy.

Wike replies former governor Odili

"You know, I didn't want to say anything until someone called me last night and showed me what somebody said in the social media. I said until I read it, I wouldn't say anything. This morning, I read it in The Nation newspaper, I read it in Daily Independent, I read it in the Vanguard what our former Governor said.

It's unfortunate, this is somebody that is supposed to be an elder statesman, this is somebody we are supposed to call a father. What he said, he said the present Governor has been able to stop one man, one politician who wants to convert Rivers State to his personal estate. Whilst I was Governor, Odili praised me to high heavens, are you not aware? Infact, he even said, no Governor combined together can do what I did, is that not correct?

Let me tell you, in 2007 when he left office, he couldn't near power because Amaechi was Governor then, he was gone. Like somebody said God will use somebody to bring out somebody. When I became Governor in 2015, I wouldn't use the word resurrected, but I brought him back to life. You can ask Ambassador Akawor, he was Ambassador to South Korea, but for me, Odili was gone, I had to rescue him, but for us, there wouldn't have been anything called PAMO University. I had to make sure we entered an agreement that Rivers State will retain 100 of our sons and daughters every session. In every semester, each of them pays not less than N5m for 7 years. Most of them today were attacking me then, why don't we get a Rivers State University.

He was living somewhere there when I rescued him. What can I gain from such a person now? What can he give me now? You say one thing here and say another thing elsewhere. I had to personally call Julius Berger to build a mansion for him. He called the whole Nigerians to go and thank Wike. That Wike has done more than enough, see the mansion he built for me and my wife, he was taking them round the building, come and see, come and see. Must you be a trader all the time?

As a former Governor for 8 years, what are you looking for? Now the Governor that we all made that has just stayed one year, that the same Odili has gone to say has beaten the record of all the former Governors before him. When I was there, the same Odili said I have beaten the record of all the Governors before me, including himself, anyways what will we say he did in 8 years? If Odili spent 8 years in office, and someone has spent just one year and has beaten his record that means he has no record to beat. Is that what an elder statesman is known for? Why not do your Christmas carol, collect what you want to collect and go then leave me alone.

I knew all he had been doing but I kept quiet. He said "personal estate", who is now having the "personal estate". His wife is Chairman Governing Council, his daughter is a Commissioner, his other daughter is a Judge, he now is the General Overseer. So who is now taking the State as a "private estate"?. I am sure, if care is not taken, if there is any hole, he can even arrange a marriage for the Governor.

I can tell you that because at this level, I do not think a man can reduce himself to this level after forgetting all he had said in the past. I named this after you, I named this after your wife, what have i not done? You said we should not be part of Government, we have left, we are managing, we did not cry. You have taken Assembly money, they have not died of hunger and they will not die of hunger. I am focused on my job in Abuja, all this envy won't get you to the level I am. When I was plotting who was to be Governor, was he there? Even when this Governor was chosen, he was complaining how can we go and bring this kind of person that can't stand in the public to talk. But today, he is doing Christmas carol for him. Even whilst I was Governor, he did Christmas carol for me, just to hang around power.

Governor for 8 years, you are not satisfied, is it now that he will be satisfied. In the 6 months, Omehia was Governor, they were not on talking terms. I brought Omehia, all of them to his house for them to reconcile. If you don't know what to do, allow others who know what to do, don't be a distraction. If I tell you how his daughter became a Commissioner, you will be shocked. It was his nephew, his senior brother's son that was recommended. Himself and his wife, came to me, let's pick Ada. I would have thought he will allow his nephew whose father just died, with him been their father now, but no, he gave it to his daughter.

When a man has reduced himself to that level, we will also tell the public whom you are. This is a man who said he wanted to run for President, he doesn't have the balls. He chickened out and ran away, saying Obasanjo said no, he ran away, ordinary Party politics, he ran away. Because of him, I never invited Obasanjo to Rivers State to commission projects because I felt it will be humiliating for him knowing the relationship.

When I was Governor, my picture was everywhere in his house, both bedroom, kitchen, both dining, even in the toilet, but today go round all the pictures have disappeared. They are the ones looking for my trouble, I am relaxed, whatever that pushed him to go and say what he said, anything he sees, he should take. "

Gov. Abiodun Commends Remoland for Advancement in Agriculture, Education, Industrialization

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, has commended Remoland for the progress it has made in agriculture and industrialization.

Speaking at the maiden edition of the Remo Day celebration held at the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu, Governor Abiodun said Remoland has achieved many breakthroughs in the area of agriculture, education, science and technology through a united front 

"Over the past years, Remoland has made significant progress, from advancements in agriculture and industrialization to breakthroughs in education and technology. These achievements highlight what a united and visionary community can accomplish.

"Remoland is home to Ogun State Gateway International Airport and is also a reference to the Gateway Agro-cargo Special Processing Zone," he said.

Prince Abiodun said the Remo Day celebration would continue to be a shining example of how culture could help bring the people together and foster a sense of pride and identity, observing that it would grow to become a major tourism activity that would attract people from around the world.

The celebration, the governor added, is a testimony to the unity, resilience, and progressive spirit of Remoland, adding that it holds a central place in the government agenda for tourism potential and the socio-economic development of the state.

The governor also promised that Community Development Associations whose projects engender growth and enhance development would receive funding from the state government.

He noted that his administration was committed to ensuring that the grassroots experience accelerated development.

The Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, in his contribution, said with more than 250 ethnic groups, each with its unique tradition, Nigeria remains a beacon of rich culture, celebrated through festivals like Arugungu, Osun-Osogbo, and the new Remo Day celebration.

He said the establishment of the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy and the efforts of the National Council for Arts and Culture underscore the importance of culture as a driver for growth and national cohesion, as it provides platforms for local artisans, encourages cultural exchange, and ensures that Nigeria's rich heritage is celebrated globally.

He urged the people to take cognizance of the importance of preserving their culture while embracing innovations that the globalized world offers, calling for the empowerment of the youth to explore creativity through workshops, mentorship, and artistic platforms.

In his remarks, the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, stated the desire of the Remo and Ijebu people to have a state out of the old Ijebu Province but emphasized, however, that the structure and shape of the new state must be deliberated to ensure transparency, equity, and equality.

He said the Remo Day celebration, which would be held every 27th of December, offers an opportunity to celebrate the spirit, culture, unity, and rich heritage of Remoland, noting that it is not only a festival but a call to celebrate the achievements of the sons and daughters of the land.

While commending Governor Abiodun for being a true representative of Remoland, the monarch lauded him for bringing development to the area and the state in general, urging the people to rededicate themselves to the preservation of their culture and ensure that the zone continues to be the investors' destiny of choice.

The event was attended by prominent personalities, including members of the national and state legislatures, past governors and deputy governors, traditional rulers, and captains of industry, among others, and featured displays by cultural and age groups.

Southern Governors Forum Mourns Abdulwahab Namadi, Hajia Maryam Namadi

 

Ogun State Governor and Chairman of the Southern Governors Forum (SGF), Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, has expressed the forum's deepest condolences to the Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, over the loss of his son, Abdulwahab, in a road accident along the Dutse-Kafin-Hausa Road, on Thursday, just a day after the loss of the Governor's mother, Hajia Maryam Namadi.

In a statement issued on behalf of the Forum and made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Friday, Abiodun said the tragic events coming in quick succession could break anyone's spirit.

He added, however, that the Forum took solace in the life that the deceased lived, urging the bereaved governor to take solace in the fact that his loved ones are in the bosom of Allah.

He said: "I and members of the Southern Governors Forum can hardly find the words to describe the devastating news of the loss of our brother and Governor of Jigawa State, H.E Umar Namadi’s son, Abdulwahab, in a road accident, just a day after the death of his very dear mother, Alhaja Maryam Namadi. Abdulwahab Umar Namadi, a young man full of life, died in a motor accident along the Dutse-Kafin-Hausa Road, on Thursday. 

"No doubt, these extremely tragic events, coming in quick succession, and at a period of the Yuletide festivities when His Excellency and his loved ones were no doubt looking forward to the New Year with joy and excitement, can break anyone’s spirit. By a cruel twist of fate, Abdulwahab, who was mourning the loss of his dear grandmother, lost his life in a road accident.

"We are completely heartbroken. We commiserate with the Governor and people of Jigawa State and pray for the repose of the souls of these very dear loved ones.

"Deep and extremely painful as these tragic events are, we take consolation in the life that our dear Mama and our dear Abdulwahab lived. They did their best to make a difference in the lives of people, and will be sorely missed.

"May the Almighty Allah, the Most Merciful and the Most Benevolent grant them Aljanat Firdaus. May He comfort His Excellency and members of the Namadi family at this terrible hour of trial.

"On behalf of my brothers in the Southern Governors Forum, I offer our deepest condolences to His Excellency and pray that he will have the fortitude to bear these sad events knowing that his loved ones are in the bosom of Allah."

Gov. Abiodun Appoints Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo as Chief of Staff

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has appointed Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo as his Chief of Staff. 

Prior to this appointment, Dr. Taiwo was the Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) to the governor.

The Chief of Staff's letter of appointment was handed over to him by Governor Abiodun, on Wednesday, according to a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to the governor, Hon. Kayode Akinmade.

The appointment, according to the letter took effect from 18th December, 2024.

The Governor, while congratulating the new Chief of Staff, described the appointment as well deserved, the statement added.

Dr. Taiwo served as Commissioner for Culture and Tourism during the first term of Governor Abiodun and was subsequently elevated to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff before his new role.

He is an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University,  Ile-ife,  where he bagged B.Sc in Statistics before further degrees up to Ph.D.

Labour Appreciates Abiodun for Approving Christmas Bonus for Ogun Workers

 

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Joint Negotiation Committee (JNC) in Ogun State have described Governor Dapo Abiodun as a compassionate leader who has the interest of workers at heart.

In separate letters of gratitude to the governor for approving the Christmas bonus for the state workforce, the two unions said the gesture is a further demonstration of Prince Abiodun's commitment to the welfare of their members.

TUC, in a letter signed by the Chairman of the Ogun State Council, Comrade Akeem Lasisi, described the bonus payment as a gesture that will help workers overcome the present economic challenges.

"This development was not unexpected, as we are well aware of the compassionate leadership that His Excellency embodies.

"The Christmas Bonus package further reinforces the current administration's reputation for delivering positive changes. This gesture will significantly help alleviate the daily economic hardships that our workforce and their families face. We assure you that this unexpected display of care from His Excellency will encourage our colleagues to strive for even more outstanding achievements for our beloved state.

"We sincerely appreciate the government's efforts to maintain stability in our industrial relations.

"Please accept our heartfelt gratitude, unwavering loyalty, and support for your administration," TUC said.

In its own letter of appreciation, JNC Chairman Comrade Olude Isa said the bonus will empower the state workers to have successful celebrations.

He said: "Beyond rhetoric, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, has done it once more, putting smiles on our faces in this season of celebrating Jesus Christ. The bonus has brought to the state workforce two factors: economic empowerment and the faithful heart of inclusiveness.

"We all received the payment; confidently and joyfully, we went shopping. Also, we felt that, indeed, we are included in the overall schemes of relevant stakeholders in our dear state. Honestly, we are very grateful for the timely gesture.

Stampede: Abiodun Expresses Condolences to Makinde, Soludo, Wike

 

Chairman of the Southern Governors' Forum (SGF) and Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun,  has commiserated with the  governments and people of Oyo, Anambra and FCT, over the tragic loss of life resulting from recent stampedes at food palliative distribution venues in the affected areas.

The stampedes reportedly  claimed the lives of approximately 65 Nigerians while others sustained different degrees of injuries.

In his messages of condolence  to Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Charles Soludo of Anambra  and Nyesom Wike in the FCT, Prince Abiodun lamented that the deaths of these innocent individuals are particularly heartbreaking, as it stemmed from their pursuit of basic  needs of survival.

Chairman of the Southern Governors' Forum (SGF) and Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun,  has commiserated with the  governments and people of Oyo, Anambra and FCT, over the tragic loss of life resulting from recent stampedes at food palliative distribution venues in the affected areas.

The stampedes reportedly  claimed the lives of approximately 65 Nigerians while others sustained different degrees of injuries.

In his messages of condolence  to Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Charles Soludo of Anambra  and Nyesom Wike in the FCT, Prince Abiodun lamented that the deaths of these innocent individuals are particularly heartbreaking, as it stemmed from their pursuit of basic  needs of survival.

Kabiru Popoola's solitary goal Seals Gateway United's Year-End Victory

 

Kabiru Popoola’s composed penalty helped Gateway United secure a 1-0 victory over Calabar Rovers in their NNL final fixture of the year at Gateway International Stadium, Ilaro. 

Coach Festus Allen made three changes to his starting lineup, introducing Lekan Abdulsalam, Olufemi Famuyiwa, and Lekan Adeleye, with the hosts looking to build on a solid defensive foundation from the outset.

The match began with both teams displaying defensive discipline, but it was Gateway United  who created the first clear-cut chance in the 7th minute. Samuel Christian broke through the Rovers defense and chipped the ball over goalkeeper Treasure Ikechukwu, only for Rovers' Johnson Emmanuel to clear it off the line with a timely header.

The breakthrough came in the 32nd minute when Lekan Abdulsalam was brought down inside the Rovers penalty area. Kabiru  Popoola stepped up to calmly convert the penalty, sending Gateway into the break with a 1-0 lead.

After halftime, Raheem Ibrahim replaced the slightly injured Titioso Idris in goal for Gateway United. Rovers pushed for an equalizer, and in the 55th minute, Amos Okoro’s thunderous shot forced Ibrahim into a crucial save, tipping the ball over the bar. Gateway United, however, missed a few chances. Famuyiwa’s low drive from the left missed wide, and Fadipe’s low drive free kick was parried away by Ikechukwu.

Despite a late surge from Rovers, Gateway remained resolute defensively. In a counter-attack, Abdulsalam wriggled past Rovers' Etete Okon and squared the ball to substitute Daniel Fadipe, but his effort was thwarted by Ikechukwu’s outstretched leg.

The match ended with Gateway holding firm to secure all three points in a hard-earned victory, a fitting way to close out the year, with 4 points from possible 9.

Coach Festus Allen expressed mixed emotions after the win. While he acknowledged his team’s compact performance, he also rued the missed opportunities to score more than once.

"It was a good game, but the low scoreline doesn’t reflect the flow of the match. I’m thrilled with the win, at least as a parting gift to our fans for the end of the year. For 2025, expect a rebirth,” Allen said.

The Ogun State government has declared that currently, the Gateway International Agro-cargo Airport is the best in Nigeria and the West African corridor, boasting the longest runway.

The state government shared the details and the unique selling point during a meeting with the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) at the facility, which was jointly hosted by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya; Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo; the Airport Manager, Captain Dapo Olumide; and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade.

At the meeting, Akinsanya declared that the airport has the best facilities in Nigeria and the West African corridor, with the runway, capable of accommodating wide-bodied aircraft.

According to Akinsanya, the airport, which is 95-98 percent complete, has a runway that is 4 km long and 60 m wide, which equals 17 lanes of road infrastructure, making it the longest and largest in Nigeria and the West African sub-region.

He added that the size of the airport, especially with its long runway, was consciously planned to accommodate international flights coming in with wide-body aircraft like a Boeing 777 or A350.

He said: "While the total size of the airport is 5,000 hectares, we started this first phase on 900 hectares, so what you see as an open space is part of a master plan because this is also an aerotropolis. There are going to be hotels, amusement parks, and cinemas in the future; that is all part of the master plan. You can't put everything together in one day.

"Overall, where we are today, I am pretty certain that we are ready to go commercial. Once we get the approval from the NCAA for commercial operations, we will commence. Right now, we have the approval for chartered flights.

"The runway has been completed for a long time, the fire station is done, and you see the two fire tenders outside, with a new addition making it three. Right now, we are class six, and with that additional fire tender, we are moving to class seven," he said.

Meanwhile, the Airport Manager, Captain Olumide, disclosed that the airport, when fully operational, would be the first in Nigeria to operate with an operating permit, while the Commissioner for Transportation stated that the airport is situated within a special agricultural processing zone and is one of the eight zones across Nigeria, describing the airport as a legacy project of Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Captain Olumide linked the slight delay in the completion of the project to the government's desire to attain a new status of operation, as opposed to what is common in the industry.

According to him, the operating permit would enable the airport to attain the ENCAS 2023 permit, which is more stringent than the Aerodrome Certification.

"There are some people who have said, why is our airport taking so long, that an airport can be built in six months? What they don't understand is that since the good old days of the FCAA, we have what they call an Aerodrome Certificate.

"With ENCAS 2023, it has changed now to an operating permit, and there is a difference between an operating permit and an Aerodrome Certificate. Even with the old Aerodrome Certificate, how many airports in Nigeria comply?

"We are the first airport in Nigeria trying to attain the status of a full operating permit. It is for that reason alone that this project is taking longer than it would have if we had opted for an Aerodrome Certificate," he said.

Meanwhile, members of LAAC scored the airport an A-plus in terms of its designs and installations, affirming that the airport has the best facilities in the country at the moment.

The Chairman of the league and Editor of the Aviation and Transport section of the Blueprint Newspaper, Suleiman Idris, who spoke after the on-the-spot assessment of the level of work on the airport project, commended the visionary leadership of Governor Abiodun, even as he affirmed that the airport project is a futuristic initiative not only for the state but for the South West region of the country.

Yuletide: Abiodun Tasks New Police Commissioner On Security

 

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has called on security agencies to design and deploy workable strategies that would ensure adequate protection of lives and property during this Christmas period.

The State governor made the call when he received the new Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Mr. Lanre Ogunlowo, who paid him a courtesy call in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Abiodun commended the security agencies for ensuring peace and tranquillity, noting, however, that unscrupulous people are bound to take advantage of the period to cause security breaches in the state.

He said: "As we approach the yuletide period, we all know that this period comes with its challenges. Those who are bent on carrying out nefarious activities, the get-rich-quick schemes, will also get a bit desperate, so I want to admonish you to please develop or design strategies to ensure that this yuletide period is peaceful for everyone, allowing us to celebrate and enjoy with our eyes closed and not have to worry about the breakdown of law and order.

"I want to enjoin your colleagues to please join hands with you the way they had cooperated with your predecessor so that together we can continue to build the future of Ogun State to achieve the future of our dreams."

Abiodun said the state is unique in terms of geographical location as it shares borders with four states and an international border, noting that this has brought about an influx of people to work and attend educational institutions, thereby raising numerous security concerns for the government.

The Governor, while informing the new State police chief about the steps taken to secure the State and its people, said his administration reinvigorated the State Security Trust Fund to provide modern equipment and logistics to the security agencies, noting that this has helped make Ogun one of the most peaceful states in the country.

He emphasized the importance of inter-agency synergy, which he said has contributed to the peace being enjoyed in the state.

Prince Abiodun maintained that the State's position as number three in Internally Generated Revenue would not have been possible in an atmosphere of insecurity.

"Like they say, you cannot have any socio-economic development in an atmosphere of insecurity. You can build all the roads, all the airports and seaports, but if there is an atmosphere of insecurity, or even if there is a perception of insecurity, nobody will come to that State," the governor noted.

The governor pointed out the issue of cultism, which is prevalent in some parts of the state, urging the new police chief to liaise with his colleagues from other agencies to find a final solution to it.

Governor Abiodun commended the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for deploying a highly intelligent and professionally sound officer to the state and equipping him with two Armoured Personnel Carriers, adding that the new CP's practical training and qualifications have prepared him for the position.

"I want to thank the Inspector General of Police who has found you worthy of this deployment. I want to thank him because he remains one of our proud illustrious sons who has not let us down. Ogun State is known for exporting such human capital, and he is one of those we exported to the federal government, and he is up to our expectations," he added.

While pledging to do all it takes to keep the State peaceful, the State helmsman assured that his administration would continue to support the State Police Command and other security agencies to maintain peace and order across the State at all times.

Speaking earlier, the new Commissioner of Police, Mr. Lanre Ogunlowo, said he is in the State to add value to what he met on the ground, assuring that with the support of the state government, cooperation from sister security agencies, and the additional Armoured Personnel Carriers given by the Inspector General of Police, he would work to secure the people and gain their trust.

"I had the privilege of working in the tactical intelligence unit of the Nigeria Police Force in the past, and I have a good understanding of the situation regarding cultism. As I mentioned when the governor was speaking to me, the Inspector General of Police graciously approved logistics, including Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs), for Ogun State when I was coming. They would soon be here.

"I have a good team on the ground. As I said, I will improve on what I met on the ground. Before I left yesterday, I had a conversation with our anti-cultism unit, and we have some strategies in place.

"What I can assure you is that we will do all that is needed to address this issue, especially at a time like this. We will engage all stakeholders; we know we can't do it alone, but we've got the wherewithal to deal with it," he said.

Ogunlowo pleaded with the people to support the police and other security agencies in achieving their mandates, adding, "Let's enjoy the season, let's be careful, let's respect the rights of others. We want peace; criminals should stay away and let the people of Ogun State enjoy the moment. We will be on the ground for that."

Osun Governor Adeleke Orders Case Review Of Teenager Sentenced To Dëäth For Stealing Fowl

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke  

has intervened in the case of a 17-year-old reportedly sentenced to death by hanging for stealing a fowl, ordering swift action for his pardon.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Governor's spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said Adeleke directed the state's Attorney General to investigate the case and ensure the man is considered for the prerogative of mercy before the year's end.

In a post on his X handle, he noted that he had ordered a review following reports that the said victim was sentenced to death by hanging.

“I have received the report of a case of a young man reportedly sentenced to death by hanging in Osun State for stealing  a fowl.”

“Consequently, I have directed the Attorney- General and Commissioner for Justice, Osun State to commence full investigation into the matter and initiate processes to grant prerogative of mercy to the young man.”

“Osun is a land of justice and equity and  must ensure fairness and protection of the sanctity of lives. I assure members of the public that this matter is receiving my direct attention with every sense of urgency also attached to our response to the matter.”the post by the governor read

Earlier, Segun Olowookere, an indigene of Osun State was convicted and sentenced to death and currently in Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison.

The parents begged the governor to grant their son amnesty.

The parents also appealed to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, to intervene in the matter.

Segun is the only son of his parents.

An Osun State High Court, sitting in Ikirun, sentenced Olowookere, who was 17 years old at that time, for robbing a poultry farm in Oyan, Odo-Otin local government.

He was said to have stolen a fowl and eggs.

His parents had pleaded with Adeleke for amnesty and pardon for the boy.

Yuletide: Treat Less Privileged, Vulnerable with Love-Abiodun Urges Nigerians at Christmas Carol

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON,  has called on the people of the state to celebrate Christmas with moderation and extend hands of fellowship to the less privileged and vulnerable in society.

Prince Abiodun made the call in his Christmas message at the Ogun State Christmas Carol and Service of Nine Lessons, held at the Arcade Ground, the State Secretariat, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He said Christmas is a time that transcends barriers and unites people across different divides, emphasizing that it is a period that focuses on the timeless values of love, compassion, kindness, and faith.

He further: "It is a season that inspires us to look beyond ourselves and embrace the bond of family and friendship. Let us extend our hands to the needy, for such acts reflect Christ’s life to the world."

The Gateway State Governor called on the people to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas, which entails giving and sharing, adding that without Christ, there is no Christmas.

"It is a time to give back to our community and support the needy," he added.

He said his administration remains steadfast in its commitment to uplifting the vulnerable by fostering inclusiveness, which is necessary to build a society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

"We will continue to focus on promoting programs that spread love, compassion, and empowerment across Ogun State. Our administration has worked tirelessly to enhance public service, improve infrastructure, and drive sustainable development," he said.

The governor, however, noted that his administration's greatest success is not the legacy imprinted on the hearts of the people, but the strength of the community, the resilience of the people, and the compassion shown to one another.

While praying for the spirit of Christmas to continue to strengthen the people's bond, inspire progress, and bring peace and prosperity to every family, the state helmsman urged people to carry forth the lessons of Christmas, which are kindness, unity, and hope for a brighter future as they look forward to the new year.

In his sermon titled "Building Our Future Together," the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Most Reverend Nicolas Okoh, said Christmas represents an opportunity to reconcile man to God through Jesus Christ, who is the Prince of Peace.

Taking his text from John 2:7, the CAN president said it was imperative for believers to be champions of reconciliation and not merchants of bitterness, as the birth of Jesus drew man closer to God.

"Christmas should not be celebrated only with friends, but with all men. As believers, we should bear the burden of peace and cross the mountain of hatred. It is not a time to abuse others but a time to make peace because it is only peace that brings development.

"As we celebrate, let us focus on things that bind us together. Let us remember the poor and the needy because there are people who have not experienced the joy of Christmas in their lifetime. Let us visit the homeless to make them know that they are part of society," he said.

He described Ogun State as a home of peace where people from other parts of the country live in unity and lauded Governor Abiodun for running an inclusive government, which he noted has united all segments of the people in the state.

The Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel), Bishop David Oyedepo, while praying for the state and nation, said though peace is a scarce commodity that cannot be bought, the birth of Jesus has brought peace to the world.

The clergyman reminded Nigerians that the essence of Christmas is not only to make merriment but to show love to one another through peaceful coexistence, emphasizing that when there is peace, all problems come to an end.

Highlights of the carol service included Bible readings by the wife of the governor, the Deputy Governor, the Speaker, the Chief Judge of the State, the Secretary to the State Government, among others, and renditions by various choirs and guest artists.

These initiatives often involve local clubs, schools and community organisations working together to provide opportunities for individuals to engage in various sporting activities.

Grassroots sports development plays a vital role in identifying and cultivating young talents. By offering structured training, coaching, and competitive opportunities, grassroots programmes help young athletes to develop their skills and passion for sports. Additionally, these initiatives instill important values such as teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship, shaping individuals not only as athletes but also as responsible and well-rounded members of society.

Moreover, grassroots sports development contributes to the promotion of a healthy and active lifestyle among community members. But for Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Governor of Ogun State, empowering the youth is not just a priority, but also a cornerstone for his ISEYA Development Agenda, a social contract which he signed with the good people of Ogun State. For more than five years now, Governor Abiodun has rolled out various initiatives not just to empower the youths, but also to create jobs, improve their livelihoods and enhance their well being. The governor’s investment in youth is massive, yet, he has a passion for sports which is another avenue through which youth empowerment is being pursued. His administration’s focus is on grassroots promotion and talents development. 

This boldly underscores the successes recorded by Ogun State at both national and international competitions. For instance, the state ranked 6th on the log of the just concluded National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, returning home with a haul of 37 medals – 11 gold, 11 silver and 15 bronze – despite parading some of the youngest athletes in the competition. This achievement speaks volumes about the potential of young talents and a brighter future that lies ahead for sports in the Gateway State.

No fewer than 34 of the state’s young athletes were penciled down for invitation to the national camp in preparation for next year's youth Commonwealth Games.

More notably, Nigeria international and proud daughter of the state, Tobi Amusan, went on to become a world champion in 100m hurdles. Ditto, another proud son of Ogun State, Tunde Onakoya, a Guinness World Record holder for the longest chess marathon in history. His remarkable achievement did not go unnoticed as Governor Abiodun met with him and conferred on him an ambassadorial position to inspire and motivate other young minds in the state to take up big challenges and strive for excellence.

It is most heartwarming that the Ogun State Government, under the leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun, has institutionalised reward for hard work and outstanding performances across all sectors, including sports. Athletes are now being encouraged and motivated, both before and even after events. In line with this commitment, and for the first time in the history of the National Youth Games, the governor approved the cash rewards of N300,000 for gold medalists, N200,000 for silver medalists and N100,000 for bronze medalists.

Governor Abiodun’s vision for sports goes beyond mere entertainment. His goal is to transform sports into an industry that not only empowers the youths but also attracts investments to the state. That is why Ogun State made a successful bid to host the 22nd National Sports Festival. The preparations for the festival are already in top gear. Renovations and construction works are underway in various sporting facilities across the nooks and crannies of the state. One of these facilities is the historical MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta. The VIP section is being upgraded and the football pitch is being replaced. The tracks are being refurbished and a brand new swimming pool is under construction. 

Governor Abiodun’s Midas touch transcends football. The governor is providing two tennis courts and two handball courts with state-of-the-art facilities to reduce the over-reliance on Abeokuta Sports Club facilities for competitions. The Alake Sports Complex at Ijeja in Abeokuta is currently undergoing a comprehensive renovation. Every facility within the complex is receiving a well deserved upgrade. The multipurpose hall is witnessing a complete overhaul. The roof has been replaced; the floor is witnessing a remarkable transformation while the squash court, which has been hankering for a new lease of life, is being given attention . Governor Abiodun has earned widespread accolades for his contributions to sports infrastructure and has proved his love for sports through his bold actions and not just mere words. This is because successive administrations in the state have only managed to repaint the Alake Sports Complex as a form of renovation, but Governor Abiodun has broken that jinx by giving both officials and athletes a new lease of life, etching his name in gold. For many years to come, his footprints will remain indelible in the sands of time in Ogun State.

 

Not only has his administration created an enabling environment for sports to thrive, Gov. Abiodun’s reign has also witnessed a series of private innovations such as the Abeokuta 10km Race, Ijebu Marathon Race, Ogun women run, Ogun school sports and the state sports festival.

The governor is far from done. Plans are underway to upgrade more sporting facilities across the state, including the stadia in Ilaro and Ijebu-Ode. For instance, the Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode and Gateway International Stadium in Ilaro have experienced power outages and vandalism for several years. Recall that power supply to these facilities was disconnected in 2007 and 2011 respectively. But the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration has successfully restored power supply to the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, while work is ongoing at the Gateway International Stadium, Ilaro.

Interestingly, Prince Dapo Abiodun has once again demonstrated his foresight and commitment to investing in the state's future, not just for today, but for tomorrow. The youths of the state can therefore rest assured that their governor will leave no stone unturned in helping them to realise their dreams and aspirations.  

However, it won't be out of place to chip in here that our sports-loving governor should use the opportunity provided by the postponement of the National Sports Festival to hasten the construction of the Dapo Abiodun SWAN Media Centre. This has become imperative, Your Excellency! Also, the construction of training pitches inside the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta should be given urgent consideration by Mr Governor, as this will encourage grassroots football and the discovery of more talents. Similarly, he should, as a matter of necessity, ensure the construction of the NFF Football House to promote the FIFA Goal Project in the state. 

It is instructive to note that concessioning the sports facilities after the festival will not only deter our athletes from having free access to the sporting facilities to train but will kill sports development in the state. The bane of sports development in Nigeria today is the lack of maintenance culture. Providing infrastructure without plans of maintaining them would amount to fetching water in a basket. The state government as a matter of necessity should implement the composition of the Sports Trust Fund and Sports Commission Law. The Sports Commission will ensure talent discovery, nurturing of discovered talents, and proper maintenance of sports infrastructures through the Sports Trust Fund account.

Sports is a social investment. Apart from the economic viability of sports investment, the sector dominated by talented youths also serves as employment generation. Let Mr. Governor use this opportunity to mix well with the people at the grassroots by attending home league matches involving the state-owned football club, Gateway United FC. It will open an opportunity to interact with the grassroots and get first-hand information on the streets. GUFC's albatross is the inability of the state government to invest in the youth team and poor remuneration or good welfare incentives for the players and club management coupled with lack of adequate attention. 

Sport is a goldmine sector that can skyrocket the internally generated revenue of the state through intentional planning and investment. The 'wuruwuru to the answer' approach will not yield any meaningful Return on Investment. The governor should develop interest in the day-to-day running of the sport sector of the state. Leaving the sports affairs in the hands of corrupt civil servants will sabotage your efforts sir.

When all of these are done, Mr Governor would have duly earned the most deserving accolade as the "Greater Pillar of Sports in Africa."

The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Abeokuta South LG Chapter has expressed unflinching support for the success of the Chairman, Hon. Balogun Afeez Olaniyi's administration. 

The assurance was given today during an official meeting with staffers of the Council and engagement with NULGE Executives led by Comrade Olawale Omidiji at his Council Secretariat Office, Ake-Abeokuta on Tuesday . 

Speaking earlier,  the Chairman of NULGE Abk South Chapter Comrade, Omidiji Olawale stated that they have many good reports about the Chairman, which encouraged the declaration of their total support for his administration. 

He also utilized the opportunity to roll out agitation about the challenges faced by the workers at the Council.

Also speaking the Head of the Local Government Administration Mr. Rufus Olaleye disclosed that the chairman has been agitating for the meeting and he also appreciated the members of staff for the warm reception given the Chairman and the support pledged.

Responding, the Chairman recalled that since his assumption of office, he prioritized the needs of the workers while also identifying the challenges of the Council.  

Balogun cautioned them not to play politics in the course of duty, declaring that he appreciates transparency and accountability that would foster development in the Council. 

He promised to provide clinic for both the staffers and the political functionaries to enable a healthy life style in Abeokuta South Local Governments. 

Balogun called on them to foster a culture of transparency, and accountability as well as excellence public service, urging the staffers to join forces with him to build a brighter future for Abeokuta South Local Government. 

Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman was also decorated as Patron of NULGE Abeokuta South Chapter, alongside the Vice Chairman Mrs. Oluranti Ogunmoku as Matron of the chapter.

Industrial Revolution has Commenced in Ogun, Says Nigerian Shippers' Council Boss

 

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers' Council, Barrister Ukeyima Akutah, has said that based on the remarkable level of the Ease of Doing Business Index in Ogun State, the state is leading the rest of the country in the ongoing industrial revolution embarked upon by the Federal Government.

He noted that this is in tandem with the policy statement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration to change the old system of production and make the country more industrialized to the level of appreciable prosperity and job creation.

Akutah added that the efforts of the Gateway State Government in the area of infrastructural development have enhanced industrial growth, thereby complementing the strides of the Federal Government towards sustainable transformation and industrialization.

The Nigerian Shippers' Council boss made this known on Monday while leading a delegation of the council to the Governor's office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The delegation, which comprised directors and other heads of units in the agency, also presented an Outlined Certificate of Compliance to the Governor on the Inland Dry Port located in the Papalanto area of the state, which was flagged off recently by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola.

Akutah further commended the Governor for his determination to raise the bar of business activities in the state and develop critical infrastructure as a way of opening the state for an array of productive activities.

"We commend you and your team for being consistent with infrastructural development in all sectors of the state's economy. One of those infrastructures is the Gateway International Agro-cargo Airport, as well as the Inland Dry Port for which we are presenting its Certificate of Compliance to you today.

"Obviously, you have demonstrated capacity and quality leadership by all standards, and your state is piloting the ongoing industrial revolution in Nigeria as conceived by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu," Akutah said.

In his response, the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, commended the delegation for the visit and for granting the Certificate of Compliance for the take-off of the Papalanto Inland Dry Port, saying it was a significant step in the quest for the establishment of the port.

The Governor described the Papalanto Inland Dry Port as a strategic port of operation aimed at decongesting the Lagos Ports and boosting industrial activities in Ogun State, which has the highest number of industries in Nigeria.

He explained that through the concept of the Multi-modal Transportation System adopted by his administration upon assumption of office, the Inland Dry Port would be an efficient mechanism for the industrial revolution embarked upon by the Federal Government.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, has declared that the completion of all developmental projects his government has embarked on since the inception of his administration remains his utmost priority. 

He reiterated the financial creativity and transparency of his administration,  which according to him had pushed the State far above almost all the States  in Nigeria except Lagos, in Internally Generated Revenue capacity, making Ogun one of the three most viable States in Nigeria.

Prince Abiodun,  speaking on the sidelines of the budget presentation at the complex of the Ogun State House of Assembly,  recently explained he has focused on projects with revenue potential, capacity to enhance employment generation, and  consistent with the priorities articulated in the State Economic Development Plan & Strategy 2021 – 2025.

He further that his administration had been able to reverse the humongous infrastructural deficit it inherited from successive governments in the State in  less than six years  of his tenure, adding that the ISEYA mantra, as a compass of developmental  drive for his administration, had helped in no small way to enhance speedy growth in all sectors. 

"The inherent concept of our developmental agenda is predicated on projects that align with the seven thematic areas contained in the Medium-Term National Development Plan 2021-2025, namely: Economic Growth and Development; Infrastructure; Public Administration (Governance, Security, and International Relations); Human Capital Development; Social Development; Regional Development; Plan Implementation, Communication, Financing, Monitoring, and Evaluation," Abiodun averred. 

The Governor, however, promised residents of the State that despite the aggressive move to generate revenue and block leakages,  his government would never impose additional burdens on them.

It would  be recalled that the Ogun State Governor had presented a total of N1,054,542,020,147.47 to the State House of Assembly as the State's proposed budget for 2025,   tagged "Budget of Hope and Prosperity," which is made up of N453.56 billion as recurrent expenditure and N600.98 billion as capital expenditures.

Majekodunmi bags Sports Ambassador Award

 The Chairman Ogun State Football Association, and Executive Board Member, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, was on Saturday, December 14, 2024, honoured with Sports Ambassador Award by the prestigious Abeokuta Sports Club.

The President of the club, Prince (Dr.) Seni Ogunyemi said the decision to award the football administrator was unanimous, as concerned stakeholders paid glowing tributes to Alhaji Majekodunmi for his giant strides.

Prince Ogunyemi commended Majekodunmi's dedication, adding that football under his watch in Ogun State has witnessed significant development.

He stressed that his position as the Chairman, Youth Football Committee of the NFF is also rubbing off positively through numerous youth-oriented initiatives like the Under-19 state League and the annual age grade football competition for Boys and Girls, among others.

The Abeokuta Sports Club's number one man praised Alhaji Majekodunmi's foresight which he said has continued to foster talent development and promoted initiatives that strengthen the community's love for the round leather game.

In his remark, Alhaji Majekodunmi who appreciated Abeokuta Sports Club for the recognition,attested to the fact that there is no gainsaying that the football industry affects the society positively, he assured that the Ogun State Football Association will continue to do everything humanly possible to ensure that more is done in terms of development, particularly at the grassroots.

BOA Unveils Committee Members

 

The Executive Chairman Abeokuta South Local Government of Ogun state, Hon. Balogun Olaniyi Afeez (BOA) released names of constituted working committees to foster the development and  smooth running of Council’s affairs. 

In a statement signed by Adeolu Shobowale, the information officer of the council stated that this was sequel to the quest to put in place a functional cabinet that would amplify the manifestos of the Premier Local Government Chairman into reality.

Mr. Shobowale further explained that, based on the operational guidelines for local Councils and after due consultations with stakeholders, the Executive Chairman unveiled the committees to assist in piloting the affairs of the Council to provide responsive and responsible leadership to the people of Abeokuta South Local Government.

Therefore, he  revealed that the committees were key personages that will be responsible for manning strategic departments, offices and other auxiliary services that are expected to add value to running the Council.

Cancel all renewal of contracts.

Suggest a strategy for upward review of fees, rates.

Recommend other avenues for revenue generation through transport, more levies.

Consider ways to plug all leaks in revenue collections.

BOA Suggest ways we can engage Every Market (Iyaloja/Babaloja and their Excos) to foster a relationship with Abeokuta South Local Government in order to foster impactful developmental projects in their respective markets.
