Chief Luwoye Donates Multi-million naira Golf Cart Garage To Abeokuta Golf Club

ABEOKUTA - One of the popular Abeokuta business merchants, Chief Shina Luwoye has donated a two-wing 10 Golf Cart Capacity Garage to Abeokuta Golf Club.

The multi-million naira project was donated in commemoration of Chief Luwoye wife's 59th birthday anniversary.

According to the Asiwaju Mayegun of Egbaland, the Golf cart would enhance the performance of people with health challenges and aged playing golf.

While commissioning the project, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo said the addition of golf cart to the golf club would encourage more people in their 60s to play golf. 

The royal father noted that with the golf carts would reduce the distance walked by golfers while on the course.

He commended Chief Luwoye and his wife for their dedication to the golf club and passion to develop the game.

Alake, therefore, called on Egba sons and friends in diaspora to come home and invest in the development of Egba nation.

 

"I want to tell people that no matter your age, you can play golf now. I will also donate more cart here. 

"So for somebody having a golf cart, that means that the area you have to walk will be reduced. They say it's allowed officially for those who are 70years and if your health condition does not permit you to walk a long distance, you can play with the golf carts, even when you're under 70. 

"So, this is very important. Wherever you go all over the world. You find so many golf carts, you just pay as you go. So we want to have something similar to that here. You can come and play for four or five hours, with or without anybody. You know, this is where the golf cart comes in. 

"It's extra to play in for a longer period to experience the ups and downs of different holes. No two holes are the same."

In his remark, the Captain, Abeokuta Golf Club, Bashorun Ladi Adegbite lauded Chief Shina Luwoye and his wife for their contribution to the club.

Adegbite noted that, Chief Luwoye had consistently donated to the development of the Abeokuta Golf Club.

Responding, Chief Luwoye emphasized that the motive was to improve the quality of life of people who play golf and to enable people to play the game of golf to the 80s and 90years in Abeokuta Golf Club.

Luwoye maintained that the Abeokuta Golf Club needed to be improved to make it a pride for Egba nation and Ogun state, stressing that the infrastructural development would elevate its status with Ikoyi country club.

"Well, the motive is to encourage more people to play golf and to improve most especially the facilities available at Abeokuta Golf Club. 

"I see the importance of how golf can help in building a community and in raising the standards of a community.

"So, it's just not enough to have a golf course, but you must have a golf course that has all the facilities that are there to make the game of golf enjoyable for people or for the patrons of the club.

"So, that is what informed why we need to improve on the facilities because as we're having many people who are getting older or getting into the 60s and 80s, and still playing the game of golf, we need to provide the infrastructure for them to keep on enjoying the game to their 90s.

"I don't want to look at it from a financial perspective. I want to look at it from the happiness that you have provided to people. For having Golf carts two-wing 10 golf cart capacity garage, it means that there are about 500 to 600 people that will use the facility in a year.

"The motive is to improve on the quality of life of people who play golf and to enable people to play the game of golf to their 80s to their 90s in Abeokuta golf club."

For effective service delivery,the Ogun State government says it will continue to reward discipline, hard work and excellence in the state civil and public service.

Governor Dapo Abiodun stated this at the End of the Year 2023 Thanksgiving and Award of Excellence put together by the State Ministry of Environment and her allied agencies - Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency -OGEPA and the Ogun State Waste Management Authority OGWAMA at the Valley View Auditorium, Government House,Isale Igbein, Abeokuta.

Represented by the Head of Service,Mr Kolawole Peter Fagbohun, Governor Abiodun said it is by so doing that the state government will encourage effective healthy competition among its workforce which will impact on  their performances and invariably on the state's growth and development.

While praising the civil and public servants for their contribution to the continuous success of the state government's ISEYA mantra,he urged them not to rest on their laurels as the government is ever determined to continually spread dividend of democracy to all the nooks and crannies of the state.

Governor Abiodun also used the opportunity to reiterates government determination to always priorities workers welfare which can be attested to by the monthly palliative allowance to cushion the effects of removal of fuel subsidy and global economic meltdown, payment of peculiar allowances and the recently paid End of the Year Special Bonus to all categories of its workforce.

These allowances he said were effected without any labour unrest in the state which confirmed that the present administration is worker- friendly, pledging to always encourage them to always be the best they can be in the service through in-service training, upgrading and promotions.

Speaking earlier,the Commissioner for Environment,Mr Ola Oresanya said the Thanksgiving and Award of Excellence which is in its second year is to thank the Almighty for preserving the lives of members of the Environment Family throughout the outgoing year despite numerous challenges while the award is  meant to reward deserving staff for their performances which has rubbed off on the Environment sector,leading to Ogun State been recognized as one of cleanest states in Nigeria.

Oresanya therefore called on the entire staff in the sector to redouble their efforts so that more successes would be achieved in 2024.

The highlight of the event is the presentation of Award of Excellence to three deserving individuals. They are Mr Olabamiji Akorede from the Ministry of Environment,Mrs Esther Kehinde Adeyanju from Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency and Mr Ibrahim Yusuf from Ogun State Waste Management Authority. Aside from certificates of awards, they were all given cash rewards as well as personal cash award by the Head of Service who represented the Governor while one of them,Mr lbrahim Yusuf- a temporary staff was given an automatic employment by the state government.

Abiodun signs N703.028bn 2024 budget into law, says it will make Ogun Nigeria's infrastructure capital

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has said that the 2024 Appropriation Bill of N703.028bn signed into law will further enhance the development of the state and make it Nigeria's infrastructure capital.

The governor stated this while signing the Bill into law after it was presented to him by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, supported by principal officers of the House at the Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan Abeokuta.

It will be recalled that the Budget tagged "Budget of Sustain Growth and Development," was submitted to the House on November 30th, 2024, by Governor Abiodun.

Speaking after signing the Budget, the governor said that the state has continued to grow in leap and bounds in the last five years, noting that the budget is a testament of his administration’s commitment to irrevocable implementation its vision.

He said: "When we assumed office on the 29 of May, 2019, we were committed to a vision to ensure that we create an enabling environment for investments and investors to strive in Ogun State, believing that that is very fundamental to the economic development of our state and the individual prosperity of our people.

"Today, we have a budget that has become law, that is more than twice our budget when we assumed office. Year after year, we have successfully implemented our budget to the tune of a minimum of 70 per cent. 

"The economy of our state had continue to grow; we have been accorded the rightful place as the state with the most improved economy in Nigeria, fastest growing economy in the country, one of the two most viable states in Nigeria, one of the two states whose Internally Generated Revenue exceed Federal Allocation. These have been made possible by the collective hard work and commitment of all of you. This hard work, I, as the captain of the ship, remain very grateful."

He said his government would continue to build on the solid foundation which had been laid, just as he promised to be fair and equitable to all sections of the state in project implementation and execution.

"My promise to the people of the state is that we will continue to build on the solid foundation that we have established. We will remain just, fair and equitable. We will continue to ensure that we do not develop any part of this state at the expense of another.

"We will ensure that we are inclusive and participatory, we are accountable and obey the rule of law and ensure that everybody continue to have a say on how we govern them," the governor assured.

Governor Abiodun thanked members of the Assembly for working very hard and ensuring that the budget passed through thorough scrutiny before passage, commending their sense of patriotism to the state.

"Today is a day short of 30 days after we submitted this proposal and in between then, there had been public holidays and weekends. The House has denied itself any of these breaks. They worked very hard and tirelessly. They irrevocably and resolutely committed to ensuring that this budget was indeed subjected to thorough examination. They went on budget retreat immediately.

"This gesture and commitment to the oath that you swore to, the commitment to continue the representation of your different constituencies, could not be forgotten in a hurry," Abiodun promised.

Speaking earlier, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oluomo, who led other principal officers of the assembly to the Governor's Office, said the lawmakers passed the budget after almost a month of rigorous exercise. 

"Recall that the budget was presented to the house on November 30 this year after almost one month of rigorous exercise in the house which includes budget retreat, budget defense and committee work that we did in the last 30 days including working on a public holiday," he said.

He explained that the quick passage of the budget was to meet up with the January 1 date in line with international best practice.

Oladunjoye commiserate with Ogun NUJ on death of member, Comrade Anuoluwapo Adekoya

The Senior Consultant to  the Ogun State Governor on Media, Comrade  Tunde Oladunjoye, has commiserated the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, on the death of Comrade Anuoluwapo Adekoya, a member of Ogun State Information Chapel of the Council.

In a message of condolence conveyed to the Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Wale Olarenwaju, Oladunjoye, described the news of the death of the female journalist as “shocking, to say the least”

“As a member of the NUJ, this sad news coming  towards the end of the year that has been most memorable and colourful to NUJ, has left a sour taste in my mouth and I am personally pained”, Oladunjoye said in the terse message on Thursday night.

Oyo State NUJ Mourns the Loss of Esteemed Member Comrade Sola Omoloun"

 

The Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has mournfully announced the demise of Comrade Sola Omoloun, a distinguished member of the Oke Ogun Federated Chapel within the council. 

Comrade Ademola Babalola, the Council Chairman, expressed deep condolences to both the leadership and members of the Oke Ogun Federated Chapel over the loss of this esteemed leader and founding member of the chapel.

In a joint statement by Chairman Comrade Ademola Babalola and Secretary Comrade Sola Oladapo, it was disclosed that Comrade Sola Omoloun passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, December 27, 2023. 

He succumbed to a brief illness at a hospital located in the Shaki area of the Oke-Ogun region, Oyo State.

The NUJ Oyo State leadership, in their condolence message, extended their sympathies to the Oke-Ogun Federated Chapel, the broader journalism community in Oyo, and particularly to the bereaved family.

They prayed for the family's strength and resilience to endure this great loss.

The statement also expressed a sentiment of acceptance that it was God's will to call Comrade Sola Omoloun to eternal rest, with hopes for continued divine protection for everyone into the year 2024 and beyond.

Following discussions with the Oke Ogun Federated Chapel leaders and the family of the deceased, it was announced that Comrade Sola Omoloun was laid to rest on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at a cemetery in the Shaki area of Oke Ogun, Oyo State.

Peseiro names 25 players as Super Eagles seek fourth AFCON title in Cote d’Ivoire

Three-time champions Nigeria have picked a team of 25 players for their onslaught for a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title, with Head Coach Jose Peseiro settling for usual suspects in a roster that has three goalkeepers, nine defenders, five midfielders and eight forwards.

 

Captain Ahmed Musa returns to the squad after he was left out of the starting games to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification series, while South Africa-based goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili is picked alongside Francis Uzoho and Olorunleke Ojo.

 

2009 U 17 World Cup star Kenneth Omeruo (the only other candidate in the team apart from Musa who was in Nigeria’s 2013 squad that triumphed in South Africa) leads the defence line alongside William Ekong, as well as Olaoluwa Aina, Oluwasemilogo Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, Zaidu Sanusi, Chidozie Awaziem, Bright Osayi-Samuel and Bruno Onyemaechi.

 

Wilfred Ndidi is also back in the roost after missing the World Cup qualifying matches against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, and will be expected to adequately feed the strike-force alongside Alex Iwobi, Raphael Onyedika, Joe Ayodele-Aribo and Frank Onyeka.

 

Musa, Nigeria’s record goalscorer at the FIFA World Cup finals with a brace each in Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018, is in the forward-line alongside Africa Player of the Year Victor Osimhen, Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Samuel Chukwueze, Victor Boniface, Sadiq Umar and Ademola Lookman.

 

All the 25 players will depart from their different bases on Tuesday, 2nd January to fly into Abu Dhabi, capital city of the United Arab Emirates, for a one-week training camp that will last until Tuesday, 9th January. The team will fly back to Lagos on Tuesday 9th January, and then fly into the Ivorian capital, Abidjan on Wednesday, 10th January.

 

The Super Eagles, in their quest for a fourth continental title, will take on Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, 14th January in their first match of Group A, before further clashes with host nation Cote d’Ivoire (18th January) and Guinea Bissau (22nd January).

 

Nigeria, who will be participating in the Africa Cup of Nations for the 20th time, were champions as hosts in 1980, triumphant in Tunisia in 1994 and crowned winners in South Africa in 2013.

ADIEU ARAKUNRIN OLUWAROTIMI AKEREDOLU SAN (1956-2023):

 

AJANAKU SUN BI OKE…….

I received with utmost grief but with submission to the wish of the Almighty God, the passage of my friend, comrade and brother, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the Governor of Ondo State, in  the early hours of today.

It is a most arduous task writing about him in the past tense. Akeredolu was ever present. He was the life of every meeting and never left anyone in doubt about his position on any issue because of his candour, frankness, and honesty. He was not a typical politician who spoke from both sides of the mouth. Akeredolu was forthright, ever objective, and frank to a fault.

Akeredolu was a prominent voice in the progressive family and played a prominent role in the emergence of the All Progressives Congress (APC), both within the confines of the law court and in the bubbling political arena.

We served at some time, respectively, as governors of Ondo and Ogun States. He was a progressive to the core who believed the essence of government, and indeed, politics was the betterment of the lives of the people. He was an advocate of true federalism and justice. History will be kind to him when the history of the emergence of regional/state security outfits in the country is told. He was at the forefront of the initiative for the establishment of the Western Nigeria Security Network - Amotekun- to safeguard the people and territorial integrity of this part of the country against unwarranted attacks.

Akeredolu was a loyal and ever dependable friend. What you see about him was always what he was. Ever forthright. Ever honest. Ever truthful.

We take solace in the indelible mark he left as the governor of Ondo State in particular and in the legal firmament and politics of Nigeria. I extend my condolences to his wife and children as well as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Acting Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the good people of  Ondo State.  May God grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.  I also pray that the good Lord will grant our departed brother and friend, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu eternal rest. Abiodun Mourns Passing Of Former Speaker, House of Representatives, Ghali Umar Na'Abba

Governor Dapo Abiodun has described the death of a former speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ghali Umar Na'Abba as a great loss, not only to his family and Kano State, but to Nigeria.

The former speaker reportedly died early on Wednesday at the age of 65 years.

He was elected into the House of Representatives in 1999 and replaced Salisu Buhari, also from Kano State as Speaker after a certificate scandal.

Governor Abiodun acknowledged the contributions made by Hon. Na'Abba during the period of his speakership when Nigeria was just coming out of a long military dictatorship. 

The governor noted that the seed planted by the late Na'Abba and his colleague lawmakers in the National Assembly has germinated to full-blown democratic dispensation, with Nigeria becoming a reference point in Africa.

As a respected leader and statesman, he played a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria's democracy and tirelessly advocated for the welfare of his constituents.

"It is with great sadness that we have learned about the passing of a remarkable statesman and a true servant of the people.

"Rt. Hon. Na’Abba was not just a former speaker of the House of Representatives; he was a visionary leader who dedicated his life to public service. His unwavering commitment to upholding the principles of democracy and his tireless efforts towards nation-building have left an indelible mark on our great nation.

"Throughout his political career, Hon. Na’Abba distinguished himself as a man of integrity, wisdom, and compassion. His leadership qualities were evident in the way he tirelessly advocated for the rights and welfare of the Nigerian people. Abiodun Mourns Akeredolu, Says Death Tragic

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Wednesday described the death of his Ondo State counterpart, Rotimi Akeredolu, as tragic.

Akeredolu succumbed to leukaemia in Lagos on Wednesday. He was 67.

In his condolence message to the acting Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the family of the deceased and Ondo people, Prince Abiodun described Akeredolu, who until his death was the chairman of the South West Governors Forum, as a a dogged fighter throughout his life time.

According to him, Akeredolu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), stood for equity and fairness in the run up to the 2023 presidential election when he was the chairman of the Southern Governors' Forum.

Prince Abiodun said Akeredolu was a visionary leader with an unwavering dedication to his people and social justice.

Abiodun said: "Akeredolu made an indelible mark on Nigerian politics. From his tenure as the chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association to his role as the chairman of the South West Governors Forum, he continuously championed the cause of justice and the upliftment of his people.

"Known for his tireless efforts to improve the lives of Ondo citizens, Akeredolu spearheaded major initiatives that brought about positive change. Under his leadership, the state witnessed significant advancements in healthcare, infrastructure, and education. His commitment to sustainable development earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and citizens alike.

"As the nation mourns the loss of a formidable leader, Rotimi Akeredolu's memory will continue to serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for generations to come. Abiodun Approves Bumper Christmas Bonus For Ogun Civil Servants

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has approved an exciting end-of-year package for civil servants in the state. 

The bonus, which spans across all levels of the workforce, aims to bring some succour amidst the economic challenges facing the country.

The Christmas bonus ranges from 68% to a whopping 159% of the basic salary. Level 01 officers will receive an impressive 159%, while other levels will enjoy varying percentages according to a circular from the office of the State's Head of Service (HoS).

Level 02 officers get (165), level 03 (135), level 04 (122), level 05 (113), level 06 (104), level 07 (88), level 08 (81), level 09 (88), level 10 (70).

Others are level 12 (80), level 13 (80), level 14 (68), level 15 (70), level 16 (102), and level 17 (84).

In monetary terms, levels 1-8 will receive N20,000 as bonus, levels 9 and 10 (N25,000), level 12 (N35,000), level 13 and 14 (N40,000), level 15 (N55,000), level 16 and 17 (N100,000).

The initiative builds upon the Abiodun-led administration's ongoing efforts to support public servants. 

It would be recalled that the Prince Abiodun-led administration has been paying N10,000 transport allowance to public servants, including pensioners and teachers in the state in the wake of the removal of subsidy on fuel.

Furthermore, the administration has been diligently addressing the backlog of pensions, gratuities, deductions, and other obligations.

FESTIVE SEASON,OGUN INTRODUCES BOOTS SALES MARKETS TO CURB STREET TRADING

In order to eliminate illegal street trading and provide succour to seasonal traders who always flood the streets especially roadsides and setbacks during festive periods to make quick sales without due regards to environmental and health considerations,the Ogun state government has commenced " Boot Sales Markets" to solve the perennial problem in the state capital, Abeokuta.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya,the Boot Sales Markets which are currently operational are at the M.K.O. Abiola International Stadium Kuto and Farmers Market, Asero Abeokuta opening from nine o'clock in the morning to four o'clock in the evening daily.

The unconventional markets have allowed  seasonal traders to take advantage of the festival period to display their products and wares in the boots of their cars, vans and makeshift stalls to prospective and willing buyers in organized, healthy and safe environment  instead of selling illegally on roadsides thereby constituting nuisance to motorists and pedestrians during this festive period.

For seamless sales,all forms of wares, foodstuffs and utensils were allowed at the M.K.O. Abiola International Stadium while those that deals with livestock products such as Chickens,Eggs and Turkey are at the Farmers Markets in Asero.

While praising seasonal traders that have taken advantage of the two markets to display and sell their wares, products, foodstuffs and other items,he called on others that are yet to do so to move to either of the two Boots Sales Markets as the state government will allow sales in authorized and open places during this festive season as it is against the state environmental law. 

"We will not take it lightly with any seasonal traders found in all these unauthorized open places such as roadsides,verges and medians.They are not meant for trading as any one of them caught will be treated as environmental offender".

"It is in order to avoid this and give them the opportunity to sell outside the conventional market that the state government established Boot Sales Markets.The seasonal traders should just take advantage of the opportunity and do their trading in these organised and environmentally friendly Boot Sales Markets"

These,Oresanya said will allow for a healthy, cleaner environment during the festive period and give the seasonal traders the latitude to do their business unmolested by environmental marshalls who will be out to apprehend environmental offenders during the period.

He also urge the traders to comport themselves in an orderly manner to justify government's decision to introduce the unconventional Car Boot Sales Markets and called on the general public to patronize them so that the aims of the market would be achieved.

In an extraordinary and record-breaking gesture of gratitude, "Farm Shop" in Ogun State, marked the end of the year by slaughtering an ostrich for its loyal customers. 

The bustling scene unfolded at "Farm Shop" OMIDA in Ibara Abeokuta, where customers gathered in anticipation of this unique event.

Over the past five days, a growing crowd had flocked to the farm shop, captivated by the majestic presence of the giant ostrich. 

The  enormous bird was slaughtered , offering customers a rare opportunity to witness the process.

Dr. Adeola Odedina, the visionary behind "Farm Shop," described the initiative as an urban agricultural triumph, aiming to express gratitude and inclusivity towards the citizens of Ogun State and its surrounding areas. 

The decision to sell the ostrich meat at a give-away price was a deliberate move to extend this treat to a broader audience, ensuring that even those who might not usually indulge in such luxury could partake in this unique culinary experience.

 However, the festive atmosphere and the communal spirit prevailed, creating an unforgettable experience for all attendees.

As the sun set on this one-of-a-kind year-end celebration, "Farm Shop" OMIDA left an indelible mark on the community, showcasing the potential for innovative and inclusive approaches to appreciate loyal customers and fostering a connection between urban consumers and fresh farm produce.

STOMERS SPORTS FC - TIME TO RETURN HOME IS NOW

The Stormers Sports Football Club of Abeokuta earlier this year decided to pick Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne as its home ground. This decision must have been as a result of uncertainty brewing around the worth of the pitch of MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta where the Stormers Sports Football Club hails. This was the much battle that sprang up in the last year's league season. With much care and persistent caution, little attention and a fair turn around,  the pitch became fine for games and most of the required league games are taking off on the field now.

There might be need for a complete turn-around of the field, i. e. more and comprehensive maintenance, adequate wetting with much supervision and persistent re-grassing of bald part of the field, removal of obstructive mole and ant hills where necessary and general roll over of the main pitch with heavy metal tyres to solidifying, regularising and compulsorily settling the many layers of the field at a balance plain that would remove undulating landscape within its perimeter.

It gladden mind that the palliative measure had gone a long way to secure the pitch for its primary role pending when the state will overhaul its entirety.

Having said that, I think it's a time for the Stormers Sports Football Club to take caution by reverting home after all, a  half bread, is always better than none at all. 

Agreeably, the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta still need some touches particularly, the pitch. It should also be noted that the state government

is not relenting in ensuring that the sports edifices in the state are uplifted to a high standard for the up coming 2024 National Sports Festival tagged: "2024 Gateway Games". Although, we are running out of time for the kick start of the preparation for the 2024 NSF game but, the state ladds and lasses' confidence remain unshaken, Good enough, the Chairman, Local Organising Committee (LOC) and Vice Chairman Main Organising Committee (MOC) of the game - Chief Bukola Olopade (Former Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Ogun State) who is also the Chairman/CEO Nilayo Sports Management Nigeria Limited (NSMNL) and Chairman/President,  Stormers Sports Football Club is a competent hand as far as establishment of sports infrastructure, construction of sports edifice is concern in the state. Having administered one of the best sporting periods in the state, during the government of Otunba Gbenga Daniel. (Presently a Senator of the Federal Republic).

We have not lost any hope in him by all standards and competency. 

The Egba high Chief is a known name in Nigerian Sports arena and beyond our shores. His wealth of experience shall in no small measure place Ogun State on the pedestal of great sporting status.

Culled from these narrations, I strongly advise that since Football is a rivalry game and highly competetive using Remo Stars Stadium as Stomers Sports Football Club home ground will only compound and chatter the so much high expectation of both the team and that of the supporters in a bid for this year's promotion. It is important to recall that this same position that the Gateway United Football Club took last year did not yield any favourable outcome rather, it reverted the high etos of the team by struggling for survival in the Nigeria National League at the tale of the 2022 competition. 

There is need therefore, to remember that football as highly spiritual game, all the required conditions and the rules of football still influence the game. Some of which are:

1. Home ground turf 

2. Home base supporters

3. Communal influence and 

4. Other advantages

I strongly offer that the last home match of the team that ended awkwardly 5 - 0 was abnormal, unacceptable  and, must be curtailed immediately. Am sure, if coach Shakiru Lawal is interrogated, He must have been humiliated in many ways. Both the General Manager and the Team Manager of Stormers Sports Football Club need a role to play in order to forestall another occurrence of this. This is a call for home return.

 Canadian singer, Celine Dion, no longer has control over her muscles, according to her older sister, Claudette. 

A year after the cancellation of her world tour in December, the 74-year-old sibling suggests that Celine's return to the stage may take a while due to her ongoing battle with the progressive and incurable neurological disorder known as stiff person syndrome.

This disorder prompts the body to attack its nerve cells, severely impacting mobility. 

According to Daily Mail on Monday, Claudette said, 'She works hard, but she has no control over her muscles. What breaks my heart is that she has always been disciplined. She has always worked hard. Our mother always told her, "You're going to do well, you're going to do well."' 

She continued: “It is true that in our dreams as well as in hers, the goal is to return to the stage. In what capacity? Don't know.' 

Although research into the condition is ongoing, its rarity means progress has been slow. Claudette added, “The vocal cords are muscles, and the heart is a muscle too. This is what's coming for me. Because it's a 1 in a million case, the scientists didn't do that much research because it didn't affect that many people.” 

Celine's charity, Fondation Maman Dion, has been inundated with messages of support for the star. Claudette said: 'Some people have lost hope because they are all diseases that are not well known. If you only knew how many calls the Foundation gets about Celine! People tell us they love her and are praying for her. She gets so many messages, presents, and blessed crucifixes.” 

Claudette previously revealed that despite working with “the best researchers in the field,” her sister has seen little improvement in her health. She told Le Journal de Montreal: “We can't find any medicine that works, but having hope is important.” 

In October, Claudette said Celine was not yet dependent on a wheelchair to get around and was still planning to perform again.

Abiodun Launches 2024 Armed Forces Remembrace Emblem, Donates N10m To Legionnaires

Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun on Monday launched the year 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem, promising that his administration would continue to prioritize the welfare of its serving and retired personnel.

Prince Abiodun, at the launch of the Remembrance Emblem at the Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, also donated N10 million to the Legionnaires.

He called on Nigerians to extend their support and care to the families left behind by the fallen heroes.

The governor also promised to look into the accommodation request of the Legion, adding that a benefiting edifice would be made available for them.

"As we celebrate the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, let us also remember the family of these fallen heroes. They have endured countless tears and heartaches, yet they have remained resilient, steadfast in their support of their loved ones.

"We must continue to extend our support and care to these families, ensuring that they are never forgotten and are provided with the necessary assistance and opportunities to leave fulfilling lives.

"In this regard, we will prioritize the welfare and wellbeing of our serving and retired personnel. We owe it to them to ensure that they are taken care of and allowed to transit seamlessly to civilian life.

"I want to extend my biggest gratitude to the Nigerian Armed Forces for their unwavering commitment and selflessness against various threats to our peace and unity.

"Through their brilliant efforts, we have been able to maintain stability and ensure the safety of our citizens," he said.

Prince Abiodun added that his administration would continue to collaborate with the armed forces in addressing various security challenges in the state.

The governor also said that his administration is fully committed to providing the necessary support and resources to ensure that the armed forces can carry out their duties effectively and efficiently.

Earlier in his remarks, the state Chairman of the Nigeria Legion, Master Warrant Officer Orukotan Olumuyiwa (rtd), noted that there is an increase in the number of widows and orphans in need of care and support as a result of security challenges that exerted pressure on the armed forces whose personnel have continually been drafted to tackle security issues in the country.

Orukotan commended the efforts of the state government to reposition the economy, even as he called for concerted efforts to ameliorate the hardship being faced by widows and orphans of falling heroes.

Sharing photos, he wrote, "I've been to Yorùbáland on the Benin Republic side on several occasions for several years now. My first time was in 2018.

"But, this was my first time flying directly into Cotonou, Benin Republic, and flying directly out of Cotonou, Benin Republic. 

And, just for a frame of reference, I've been flying to Yorùbáland on the Nigeria side ANNUALLY through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport of Lagos since 1998...Annually since 1998! That is 25 years!!! 

"Last year I flew through the airport of Lagos in and out 4 times throughout the year. One thing I can say is that there are massive differences between the Cotonou Cadjehoun International Airport and the Murtala Muhammed International Airport - Lagos.

"The airport in Cotonou is puny by comparison. It also has a pleasant design. The inside of the airport is clean. Their bathrooms are clean and fully functional with soap dispensers and hand dryers. Its car park is clean. 

"There aren't ọmọ ìta, like the ones in the airport in Lagos, all around trying to hustle you. The staff were balanced in their demeanor, professional, and friendly. In walking distance from the airport in Cotonou there are nice bars and restaurants similar to what I would find in Wynwood and other areas of South Florida.

"Also, going through security there was no impression of religious discrimination as an Òrìṣà devotee / oníṣẹ̀ṣe (the kind of religious discrimination that I more frequently than not have experienced at the airport in Lagos). 

"Benin Republic in general values its indigenous cultural and religious identity more than their Nigerian neighbors that give preferential treatment to foreign religions of Middle Eastern origin. 

"Just so you are aware, at the airport, I try to dress and behave as discreetly as possible to not draw attention to myself other than the obvious. 

"Did I mention that the air-conditioning system at both the departure and arrival areas of the airport at Cotonou works? Yes, their a/c works!!! They are not making human suya out of travelers leaving the country. Can you imagine that???

"And, both at the airport and most everywhere else throughout the Benin Republic, I felt overwhelmingly safe and like I was in any other country where people seemed "normal", for lack of a better word. 

"Here is the most important part: Not one customs official nor immigration officer nor airline staff tried to ask for a bribe nor extort money from me nor ask "what did you bring for me." No one.!!! Is that not a normal airport?

Dignitaries from all over the country were treated to Africa and continental delicacies at the first ever Loveworld State Dinner organised by the Loveworld Incorporated at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja yesterday. 

Welcoming guests at the august event, Dr. Daysman Oyakhilome who is the President of the United Youth of Africa Nation (UYAN), appreciated the founder and president of the Loveworld Incorporated, also known as Christ Embassy, Rev. Dr. Chris Oyakhilome, for the opportunity given to him, welcomed the distinguished guests to the Loveworld State Dinner. 

He noted that “the Loveworld global fellowship is a structure and a platform visionarily put together by the man of God to embrace, support, and inspire your work all around the world. It's a platform that creates and reconciles all your great efforts, visions, goals, to God's vision and plan for mankind.”

The platform, he added, was also established with the aim of “shining the light on your hardwork, commitment and passion for God and the nations.”

The President of the All-African Students Union (AASU), Osisiogu Enyinnaya E., in his speech, make a case for support for education in the continent, saying that the union associated itself with the Loveworld State Dinner because over the years, “Rev. “We have, as young people, been impact by, not just his ministry but his tutelage”.

Abiodun Makes Case For Diversification Of Nigeria's Economy To Non Oil Sector, Agriculture, Technology, Others

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has said that Nigeria's economy would be sustainable if attention is shifted from oil to the non oil sector.

He said the nation could achieve this by diversifying into mineral resources, agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, and technology.

Speaking at the 6th Senator Abiola Ajimobi Roundtable and 74th Posthumous Birthday, organized by the Senator Abiola Ajimobi Foundation in collaboration with the Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies, University of Ibadan on Saturday, Governor Abiodun noted that the world is gradually moving away from fossil fuel, hence the need for the country to begin to look for other sources of revenue.

He said: "As I have mentioned earlier, the world is slowly moving away from fossil fuels as more countries embark on energy transition, therefore the need to actively diversified economy into non-oil sectors such as mineral resources, agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, and technology.

"Nigeria is blessed with an abundance of over 40 commercially viable mineral and natural resources that we as a people and government have not explored. While no official figures have been put forward, industry experts report that Nigeria’s solid mineral deposits are valued at over $1 trillion with some estimates as high as $5 trillion.

"Take, for example, my State, Ogun State, where we have over 15 natural mineral resources present in commercial quantities in all our local governments but only actively mine limestone, granite and laterite. 

"In fact, we are the largest producer of solid mineral resources in Nigeria and account for just over 32.04 metric tons of mineral resources or 37.6% of national output. 

"Imagine if, as a country, we are able to tap into all other solid minerals like gold, lithium, tantalite (a crucial mineral for electronics manufacturing), tin, barite, etc. The possibilities are endless, especially if we engage in value-chain addition in the country."

He said the theme of the roundtable, "Re-engineering Nigeria For Sustainable Development: Options, Costs and Prospects", was apt, as factors like youth engagement, collaboration with international organizations and neighbouring countries, embracing technological advancement and fostering innovation could accelerate economic diversification and growth.

Governor Abiodun lamented Nigeria's over- reliance on oil exports, which he said exposes her mono-economy as unsustainable in the face of volatility of oil prices due to supply and demand, market forces, vandalization and oil theft.

Prince Abiodun emphasized that re-engineering Nigeria for sustainable development is an intricate and multifaceted endeavour, expressing optimism that the nation's abundant resources and youthful population provide the needed solid foundation, but that addressing challenges such as infrastructure deficits, and economic diversification was imperative. 

Senator Ajimobi, the governor stated, was as quintessential as he was kind, gifted and an exceptional communicator, who through hardwork, attained early success in the oil and gas industry and emerged a developmental political juggernaut worthy of emulation.

In his keynote address, the Minister for Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, attributed the nation's problems to leadership and fellowship issues.

He said that though Nigeria is blessed with abundance of resources and has contributed quality men and women to lead many international organizations, she is still far from development due to lack of quality leadership.

He lamented that many multi-nationals are pulling out of Nigeria because of high cost of doing business in the country, noting that it was high time Nigeria began to focus on education, youth development, technical training, while the health and power sector should be revitalized and leadership and fellowship issues should be dealt with.

Moderator of the event, Tajudeen Akanji, in his opening remarks, said that despite the nation's wealth, it does not show on the citizens as there is poverty in the land.

He said to re-engineer the country entails broad and general education for all, reasonable income for the people, functional middle class, functional administration, social services and respect for the rule of law.

President Bola Tinubu has expressed grief over the passing of ace broadcaster, Kabiru Usman Fagge, who died on Friday in the United States of America

Fagge, aged 77, was an enduring name across the Hausa-speaking world for his long career with the Hausa service of the Voice of America (VOA), spanning 25 years.

In a condolence message, President Tinubu lauded the contributions of the deceased to nation-building, particularly his sensitization on and advocacy for education through the well-known weekly education programme he anchored. 

“His desire to serve humanity through journalism started quite early from his days as a freelancer while teaching. We are grateful for his services through his chosen career and for being a good ambassador of Nigeria on such a global platform,” the President said.

”Our collaboration in Sagamu with other Remo Youths will continue for a very long time, I consider this a rare honor that has been bestowed upon me and I promise to do more”.

Kajola dry port to create 40,000 jobs-Ogun government

The Ogun State government has described the recently approved Kajola dry port as a game changer in the economy of the state, as it will create at least 40,000 jobs for both skilled and unskilled workers.

This was just as it assured all stakeholders that their interests had been captured in the project, adding that the construction of the dry port would expand the internally generated revenue for the state, reduce transport and transaction costs, and attract various infrastructure and regional development projects, amongst others.

This was disclosed by the state Commissioner For Transportation, Hon Olugbenga Dairo, during a chat with pressmen in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Dairo, who said efforts had reached advanced stage in actualizing the Dapo Abiodun administration's vision for the envisioned dry port at Kajola, Papalanto in Ewekoro Local Government Area of state, said that the government is determined to make Ogun,  Nigeria's first investment and business destination.

He disclosed that the approval given to the state government by the federal government to develop a dry port followed its strategic identification in the state's Multimodal Transportation Master Plan. 

Tracing the origins of the project, the commissioner said: "In 2021, His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun directed us to put together a strategic Multimodal Transportation Master Plan for Ogun State.

"This, we did in conjunction with experts from the prestigious Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) and support from the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (UKFCDO). 

"We were very mindful of the aspirations of His Excellency on the economic and industrial development for the state, and so we deemed it critical to plan for an airport and a dry port. 

"The airport is nearing completion, and our congruent plan is to develop a dry port that will receive goods from Apapa and Tincan dry ports. 

"The good news is that we have got the Federal Government approval to develop, and we are not resting our oars on other processes towards this realization.

"The proposed site has been satisfactorily assessed to be proximate to both the NRC narrow and standard gauge rail lines. It is a flat land good for a dry port, and there are Lafarge and Dangote cement factories within its catchment area.

"We are having constant engagements with the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Nigeria Shippers Council, ICRC and recently, we visited the Nigeria Railway Corporation Oyingbo, Lagos and engaged  the Commissioner for Police and Nigeria Civil Defense in that station, on the way forward."

Speaking further, Dairo said that Governor Abiodun, being a private sector person who has operated in various international institutions, understands best practices and appreciates keen focus on policy development and project delivery, is promoting international best practices  to make Ogun State the best destination for investors.

World Bank Indictment: CNPP, CSOs Call For Forensic Probe of NNPC Limited

Conference Of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) and its allied civil society organisations (CSOs) under the aegis of the Coalition Of Civil Society Organisations Against Inept Leadership, have called for forensic probe of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and the defunct Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) over years of unremitted and under remitted revenues. 

The CNPP and the CSOs were reacting to the indictment of the Federal Government owned NNPC Limited by the World Bank over lack of transparency in the financial gains from fuel subsidy removal as well as observations of the global bank on subsidy arrears that are still being deducted and the impact of subsidy removal revenues accruing to the Federation Account. 

In a statement jointly signed by the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the CNPP, Comrade James Ezema and the National Secretary of the Coalition of CSOs, Alhaji Ali Abacha, the groups called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu “to think deeply and realise the overall negative impact this lack of transparency in the NNPCL over the years will have on revenue remittances from the oil and gas sectors and reconsider the reappointment of Malam Mele Kyari as the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPCL. 

“We are happy that the Washington-based World Bank in its Nigeria Development Update, December 2023 edition titled, ‘Turning The Corner (from reforms and renewed hope, to results) re-echoed our position that the NNPCL management as appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari is unfit to remain in office. 

“We are also happy that the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of Economy, Wale Edun, has reportedly revealed that the government was ready to scrutinise the revenue flow from the NNPCL.

“For us, the continued borrowing to finance budgets since 2015 can be traceable to non-remittances, under remittances and outright stealing of government revenues annually. 

“It is shocking that calls for probe of the government owned oil and gas company, even after the revelation by whistleblowers and an order of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, compelling Malam Mele Kyari to disclose the whereabouts of the proceeds of sold stolen 48 million barrels of Nigeria's bonny light crude oil, stored in China and sold under the watch of the current Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), remain unheeded.

"By this, President Tinubu has already jeopardised the planned well-being of ordinary citizens in his Renewed Hope Agenda, which is what the reappointment of Malam Kyari will result into in the coming years in view of the track record of lack of transparency in revenue remittances. 

“According to the World Bank, in media reports, while revenue gains from the exchange rate reforms are visible, the bank strongly observed that more clarity is needed on oil revenues, including the fiscal benefits from the PMS subsidy reforms.

“In the interest of the economy and the suffering masses, it's time for President Tinubu to order public forensic probe of both the old NNPC and the current NNPCL to block revenue leakages if the gains of Renewed Hope Agenda will go beyond mere wishes”, the groups stated.

Ogun Govt Takes Over Education Of Late Director of Finance Children, Provides New Accommodation To Family

.....approves immediate  payment of gratuity

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has approved the takeover of the education of the children of the deceased Director of Finance and Administration in the office of the governor, Mr. Taiwo Oyekanmi.

The governor also directed the immediate payment of the gratuity of the slain director to cushion the effects of his  death on the family he left behind.

He has also instructed the Ministry of Housing to provide the wife and children of late Oyekanmi with one of the affordable homes built by his administration.

Governor Abiodun made these  known at Ibara Baptist Church on Wednesday, during the memorial service held in honour of the late  Oyekanmi.

"I also promised when I came to see you, Mrs Oyekanmi, that we will not leave you; that we will stand by you. The Almighty God himself will be with you. But we will stand by you, with you, we will support you and your family.

"We can not replace Taiwo, but we will do everything to cushion the effect of his departure.

"I have since signed up on some of that support immediately. So this is not a promise that you have to come to us to request that we fulfil.

"Your children, the state will be taking over the responsibility of their education. I have instructed the payment of your husband's gratuity immediately.

"I also have instructed the Ministry of Housing to provide you with one of our affordable homes.

"I know you have a home of your own, but in my opinion, I thought perhaps you may decide to commercialize that so that will give you a sense of income to cushion the effect of your departed husband," he said.

Governor Abiodun also called on the family of the deceased to support the wife and the children he left behind, adding that all the supports to be given to her are for her exclusively.

"Now, I will plead with the members of the family. I know how our tradition works. Please, bear with this woman. Yes, Taiwo is your brother, nephew, cousin, but Taiwo is this woman's husband, she has lost her husband, the children has lost their father.

"All these supports that are due to be given to her are for her exclusively. The Head of Service is under my instruction to ensure that he provides the necessary oversight to ensure that she enjoys this support exclusively, and I want to thank you for understanding," he disclosed.

Abiodun reiterated his promise that his administration would do all within its power to bring the perpetrators of the crime to book.

He said that it was in line with that promise that a reward of N50 million was announced for anyone with useful information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible for the crime.

Governor Abiodun described Oyekanmi as  humble, diligent, dedicated, and extremely hardworking, adding that he was very reliable and dependable.

Responding on behalf of the family, Mr. Lanre Oyekanmi, who described the death of their brother as a loss not only to the family but to the whole Ifoyintedo community, said that the family would support the wife and children of their brother.

CARE FOR THE NEEDY- OGUN LAUNCHES RENEW AND REUSE AGENDA

 Ogun State government has commenced a Renew and Reuse Waste Agenda with a call on residents of the state to be their brothers keepers especially during this season of love and giving which is in line with Prince Dapo Abiodun administration's social inclusion.

The  Agenda seeks to bond every strata of the population  together through the renewal of some items  considered as  waste to useful materials for reuse by those who needs them thereby promoting human kindness.

Speaking at the commencement of the programme in Abeokuta, Commissioner for Environment,Mr Ola Oresanya said the Renew and Reuse Waste Agenda will give residents of the state the opportunity to donate those items  such as undersized or outgrown clothes, shoes, discarded fabrics,toys, household items books and publications to those that needs them.

These would be done through several Collection Boxes placed at Government Offices, prominent Eateries,Stores, Outlets and Non Governmental Organizations NGO's offices spread  across the state.

This,Oresanya said will give residents the opportunity to reach out to those who need the items they want to discard.

"We equally want our people to know that waste is not waste unless you waste it as one person's waste is a source of joy for another person.

"What you want to throw away is what some people are looking for.So don't throw them away as this is an avenue for you to show human kindness especially at this time when the Federal and State Governments are giving out palliatives to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy and global economic downturn"he added.

Aside from the humanitarian angle of the programme, Oresanya said the items given out which will be renewed and reused will make the environment better as there would be reduction of waste at landfills with its effects on carbon footprints, ozone layer and climate change.

Contributing,the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development,Hon Adijat Adeleye whose Ministry is collaborating with its Environment  counterpart said the items donated in the Collection Boxes would be sorted, cleaned and re- packaged at state government's expenses and given free to those who needs them and enjoined the rich and the favoured in the society to support the needy through the programme.

She also called on residents not to feel reluctant to donate due to cultural beliefs  saying her Ministry is ready to pick up any donation privately if secrecy is required.

  

For Rotary Club of Abeokuta that are also collaborating with the state government,its Secretary, Rotarian Mujeeb Dauda said the programme keyed  into the club's four- way tests and pledged  their commitment to success of the programme.

Also contributing,Mrs Abimbola Adeyemi of Crown Fit  Outlet who spoke on behalf of other partners said they are happy to join the state government on this journey of giving succour to the needy through the  Renew and Reuse Waste Agenda.

The residents are therefore enjoined to look out for the Collection Boxes in all government offices and public places across the state and drop their donations to make the programme a huge success.

CAF Awards: Gusau hails Osimhen, Oshoala, Nnadozie, Falcons as Nigeria win big in Morocco

President of Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau was a very happy man on Monday night, as Nigeria swept important honours at this year’s CAF Football Awards held in Marrakech, Morocco.

 

The NFF supremo was personally present at the Hotel Movenpick and collected the first honour that came Nigeria’s way – Women’s National Team of the Year. He dedicated the award to all women football teams on the African continent.

Chiamaka Nnadozie, who shone brightly at the FIFA World Cup finals in Down Under this year summer as the Super Falcons reached the Round of 16, was the undoubted winner of the honour of Goalkeeper of the Year (Women). The Paris FC of France safe hands made a moving speech: “To all the young girls growing up in Africa, dreaming of becoming a footballer one day, believe me dreams do come true. My dad didn’t want me to play football but I’m sure he’s gonna see this and be happy. So, keep dreaming, keep working and I believe that one day you’ll get to this stage.”

 

After Asisat Oshoala won a record-extending sixth award as Player of the Year (Women), the auditorium went silent as it was time to present the men’s version. Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah were the final three.

 

Osimhen was crowned, becoming the first Nigeria player in 24 years to take the gong. The last person was Nwankwo Kanu, back in 1999. Kanu also won in 1996, after Rashidi Yekini in 1993 and Emmanuel Amuneke in 1994. Victor Ikpeba took the crown in 1997.

 

Gusau said: “I am very excited tonight. This has been hugely rewarding for our football and for our country as a whole. I congratulate Osimhen, Oshoala and Nnadozie, and I congratulate the Super Falcons as a team for bringing us this honour.

 

“My charge would be that they all keep doing what they know how to do best, keep improving and keep winning. The sky will be the beginning for them.”  

 

Osimhen became the first player in the history of the African Football Awards to have been crowned Player of the Year (Men) after having pocketed the Young Player of the Year (Men) in an earlier year. Only last Monday, the 24-year-old was crowned the 2022/2023 Player of the Year in Italy’s Serie A, after having won the Young Player of the Year in the same league in the 2021/2022 season.
