Yewa Awori Occupies Special Position In Our Developmental Drive - Gov Abiodun

Governor Dapo Abiodun has reemphasized that Ogun West Senatorial District will continue to be at the forefront of his administration's socio-economic considerations.

The governor said the zone remains an integral part of his administration’s developmental drive.

Abiodun made this known on Tuesday at the Yewa Division Town Hall meeting, in preparation for the 2024–2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and the 2024 Appropriation Bill held at Ilaro the capital of the senatorial district. 

According to him, Ogun State is the industrial capital of Nigeria, because Ogun West has the highest concentration of factories and industrial hub in the country, as well as home to some of the largest industrial estates in the entire sub-Saharan Africa. 

Abiodun stressed that his government is doing all in its power to bring in new industries and ensure existing ones remain viable while ensuring that the ease of doing business is maintained in the area always. 

He reiterated that his government to which the people confidently gave their mandate, understands their pains and is doing everythingpossible to ease the sufferings.

In his remarks, Commissioner For Budget and Planning, Mr Olaolu Olabimtan, reiterated that the townhall meeting was based on governance feedback mechanism and citizens participation, adding that the meeting would help improve citizens confidence and trust through engagement, promoting local and foreign investment, promote and sustain inter ethnic and inter religious harmony.

He said that the meeting was not just a mere rituals, but was about policies, programmes and projects, reiterating that out of 203 inputs from last year's meeting 193 were met and included in the last budget which represents 95%. 

Olu of Ilaro and paramount ruler of Yewaland, HRM, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, speaking through the Onimeko of Imeko, HRH, Oba Benjamin Olanite, said the importance of good roads cannot be over emphasised.

He called the attention of the state government to Ejila Awori road which borders Lagos and other areas, the ongoing Imasayi-Iborro-Ayetoro Iboro road, old frontier road, now called Ilara, Iggua and Ilase road in Yewa North, Ota road, Lusada -Atan-Agbara road, Ilaro township road, Imeko Afon Bridge among others  

A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Kazeem Salako said Yewa Awori needs more provision of housing scheme, while calling attention to Atan-Alapoti road, completion of Sango-Ijoko-Akute road, construction of Mopin-Iyesi road, completion of Ota public water scheme, improvement of road networks in Ota GRA and  rehabilitation of Agbara township road.

Also speaking,  the Olobi of Ilobi, HRH, Oba Saliu Adedokun Ajibade said the development of Yewa land is paramount to its citizens, especially rural areas because past governments usually concentrated on the town, adding that Okenija, Olobi to Owode needs urgent attention of the government.

Replying to the demands, Governor Abiodun pleaded for patience, even as he stated that his administration was not looking away from their plight.

The governor promised that with the recent agreement by the government at the Central for the restruction of Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Expressway, which is one of the major roads in the area by his administration, work will commence immediately to alleviate the sufferings of commuters on the road.

While appreciating the Royal Fathers of the region for working hand in hand with government to promote its development, the governor used the opportunity to reassure the people of his unwavering commitment to completing all ongoing infrastructure projects across Ogun West.

BREAKING NEWS : Police Arrests 14yr Ild Housemaid, Joy Afekafe Over Murder Of FUTMINNA Lecturer

Joy Afekafe who was paraded at Bosso Police Station earlier on Tuesday, confessed of killing late Dr Mrs Adefolalu Fumilayo who was a FUTMINNA lecturer. 

A shocking incident of culpable homicide involving Dr. Mrs. Funmilola Adefolalu, a lecturer at the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, unfolded on the 29th of October, 2023. Friends and church members of the deceased made a harrowing discovery at her residence in the Gbaiko Area of Minna.

Dr. Funmilola's absence and the inability to reach her by phone raised concerns among her visitors. Upon their arrival at her residence, they were met with a gruesome sight. Dr. Funmilola Adefolalu lay lifeless in a pool of blood, bearing visible injuries on her body.

In response, the police dispatched operatives from the Bosso Division to investigate the situation. The grim discovery at the crime scene included two knives with bloodstains, suspected to be the weapons used in the attack. Dr. Adefolalu's remains were transferred to IBB Hospital in Minna, where she was officially pronounced deceased.

During the interrogation, the suspect made a chilling confession. She revealed that she had worked as Dr. Funmilola Adefolalu's housemaid for approximately three weeks but was terminated from her position due to misconduct. Following her dismissal, Joy Afekafe sought help from her classmates, identified as Walex and Smart.

Together, they conspired to attack the lecturer at her residence. On the 28th of October, 2023, at around 4:00 p.m., they approached the house on a motorcycle. Joy Afekafe arrived at the gate, gaining entrance after Dr. Adefolalu opened it. Subsequently, Walex and Smart entered the residence.

In a brutal and fatal assault, they subjected the lecturer to physical harm. They used a stool to strike her head and inflicted multiple stab wounds with knives. The attackers also made off with the deceased's phone and laptop. Notably, they removed the vehicle's battery before fleeing the scene.

The prime suspect, Joy Afekafe, will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and due prosecution. The police are currently intensifying their efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects who remain at large.

Abiodun: CNG Buses'll Revolutionize Transport Sector

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has said the introduction of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Mass Transit Buses in the country will revolutionize the entire transport sector and reduce the hardship being experienced by Nigerians as a result of the recent removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government.

The state on Monday unveiled the first set of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Mass Transit Buses in the country with a promise by Governor Abiodun to expand the scope of the scheme's operation throughout the state.

The 17 converted vehicles in the maiden scheme became the first in the country in response to the recent removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government, with the deployment of CNG Technology and E- Mobility as a better alternative and viable means of  transportation in the Gateway State

Governor Abiodun, while speaking at the launching, said the initiative was conceived even before the fuel subsidy removal as his administration was desirous of a cost-effective transportation system with little impact on the environment. 

"The initiative was clearly anticipated because we knew that the regulation of the downstream sector was eminent and unavoidable. 

"This has become very imperative considering the urgent need to provide a cleaner environment and to mitigate the effects of climate change which we are all seeing to be real and which principally is caused by the use of fossil fuel, predominantly diesel and petrol.

"As your governor, I am extremely delighted that we are able to commence the implementation of this laudable initiative and I am bold to say that we come tops yet again as the first state in the country to record this feat which is another successful Public Private sector partnership with our partner called Spiro, a company that has successfully deplored this in other parts of the West Africa sub-region," the governor said.

He noted that local mechanics, who are part of the conversion engineering, had been trained, while conversion stations have been set up in the three senatorial district of the State, adding that this would allow for the rapid conversion of commercial and public mass transit buses and vehicles across the State.

The governor added that the initiative would reduce the cost of transporting goods and services as well as provide training and job opportunities for thousands of technicians and mechanics around the state.

Some of the buses, the governor revealed would be given to workers and students, while some would ply the Mowe- Ibafo to Berger in Lagos and Redeemed axis to Lagos Island, as the corridor was heavily congested with large cross border migration.

He said: "Some of these buses ply Kuto to Wole Soyinka train station in Laderin, some from Onikolobo to Idi-Aba corridor, while others will serve Ita-Oshin-Adatan route. As we expand our fleet, we will also deplore the buses to major towns and cities starting with Sango- Ota, Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode and this will provide mass transportation for our citizens particularly our young students in the towns and cities."

"In the same vein, it is a thing of joy that in the next couple of months, commercial operations will begin at our Agro-Cargo International Airport located along Iperu-Ilishan road in Ikenne Local Government Area of the State," the governor added.

In his welcome address, Commissioner for Transportation; Engr. Olugbenga Dairo said that the unveiling of the buses marks an important milestone in the implementation of the state's transport policies and the state multi-modal transport plan, adding that the use of alternative and cheaper fuels is also one of the key reasons why the state government established the ministry of transportation in February, 2020.

Also speaking, the member, representing Imeko and Yewa North in the Federal House of Representatives; Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka described CNG as one of the challenges to the transportation problem occassioned by the fuel subsidy removal, moreso when the Federal Government was also thinking in the same direction.

He appreciated the governor for the brilliant pivotal initiative, adding that the impact must be felt by the people.

Akarigbo of Remoland and Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas, Oba Babatunde Ajayi lauded the achievement of the present administration, saying that the Prince Abiodun-led administration is on the right track.

The Akarigbo urged Governor Abiodun to ensure that the CNG enabled buses do operate inter-city only but also embark on intra-city transportation to support the refueling of the buses along the roads and terminals.

Ogun Govt To Resuscitate Governor's, Principals Cup Competitions - Gov. Abiodun

 Governor Dapo Abiodun announced this at the final of the third edition of Value Jet/SWAN Security Cup competition held at the main bowl of MKO International stadium Kuto Abeokuta.

Governor Abiodun who was represented by the Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka noted that plans were on to ensure the development of sports in the state with the renovation of sporting facilities across the state.

He also pointed out that efforts were on to ensure that the Gateway United football club gain promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL,

The governor who commended the initiative of the Sports Writer Association of Nigeria (SWAN), for staging the competition which he noted come stay in the state, said the government would continue to encourage other stakeholders in the sports industry to develop the sector in the state

Earlier the Chairman, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Ogun state Chapter, Mr Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji had implored the Governor to take up the competition and provide yearly sponsorship.

Ogunsiji explained that the competition aimed at fostering unity among security and safety agencies in the state had remained a reference point in the southwest region of the country.

At the end of the final match, the football team of Nigeria Police defeated their arch-rival, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC by six goals to five on penalties after the match had ended goalless in regulation time.

Police goalkeeper, Kehinde Ayobami was the hero, saving two penalties while the team's captain Bola Isikalu converted the last penalty to give the Nigeria Police team the deserved victory.

The Nigerian Correctional Service won the bronze medal after the Nigeria Customs Service failed to show up for their match.

The final match which had the Commissioner for Forestry, Hon Taiwo Oludotun in attendance also attracted heads of  various security agencies, past SWAN leaders as well as the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ogun state council, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju.

SAD NEWS: A FUTMinna Lecturer Has Been Found Brutally Murdered in Her Home

In a horrifying incident, Dr. (Mrs) Adefolalu Funmilola Sherifat a lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry at the Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna was discovered brutally murdered in her residence in the Gbaiko Area of the town

The lecturer was found with her throat slit lying in a pool of blood with knives found nearby after her house door was forcibly opened by concerned residents. 

The police have since moved her body to the mortuary, and further details about the incident are expected to be revealed in due course as stated by the spokesman of the Niger Police Command Wasiu Abiodun.

THE KARMA IN NIGERIAN FOOTBALL

In recent few weeks, I've read and listened to a flurry of angry reactions to the current state of Nigerian football, exemplified by the showing of Enyimba FC of Aba against Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in the new money-spinning African competition - the African Football League. 

It beats me how many fellows are yet to conclude that our football is in a nadir, which is a consequence of many years of scratching of the issues on the surface. I have for long seen an ominous KARMA dangling over Nigerian football. 

There's no way the cracks could be papered, our football in administration, in management and on the field has been in an INTENSIVE CARE waiting to die.

        DEFUNCT ACB FOOTBALL CLUB OF              LAGOS

Enyimba is just an example that represents our fall in clubside football. The national teams are horrendous. 

LATE RASHIDI (GANGLING) YEKINI MON

If Nigeria was rated highly by FIFA, after the 1994 World Cup, and in almost 30 years after, is rated number 40, it goes that the margin has been stupendously wasteful.

               SUPER EAGLES 

If in 1976 and 1977, IICC shooting stars of Ibadan and Enugu Rangers won the African Winners Cup, and in 1990 BCC Lions of Gboko won the same Cup, while Enyimba won the prestigious Champions League in 2003 and 2004, it again implies 19 years have shown no remarkable trajectory in our clubside football dynamics.

LATE MUDASHIRU AGBOLUWAJE LAWAL OON MON

The result is that we have failed to produce and sustain another set of the likes of  Stephen Keshi, Etim Esin, Rashidi Yekini, Peter Rufai, Muda Lawal and many more who signposted our football in the 80s and the 90s.

I often read and hear the argument that state governments have no business in running clubsides.  I also ask back,  who ran IICC and Rangers in the 70s? Who ran Enyimba in their dizzying periods ?

Business is business, and could be consummate in conceptualisation and implementation with the right people, knowledge and skill-set, whether at public or at private levels.  What is missing in Nigeria's current football environment is the cutting edge ECOSYSTEM in which the business of the game thrives with a competitive economically rewarding system for both state and private investors in the game.

This is the panacea for development and growth of truly genuine football talents and culture that will radiate national life and determine the strength of our clubsides and national teams.

The KARMA is here. Facing it headlong with all the sacrifices and investments that come with it is the way out of the tunnel. 

" Be Mindful of The Bad State of Abeokuta/Lagos Old Road " --- Hon Adesina cautions Motorists

........ Says succour is in sight.

Motorists plying Abeokuta/Lagos Old Road have been warned to be mindful of the bad state of the commercial and ever busy road to avoid unnecessary road crashes.

The Chairman, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State,Hon Adesina Sikiru Adisa gave the warning when baring his mind during an interview session with journalists in his office on the bad state and the approval given to the Ogun State Government by the Federal Government to fix the badly shaped road. 

People should avoid night traveling, most especially those who are not conversant with the road . For those who are not new to the road should minimize their speed as speed thrills but kills. " ----- the Chairman reiterated.

The Local Govt boss enjoined people to pass through the normal channel of the road, instead of making use of wrong way ( one-way)  which has wreaked a lot of havock on lives and properties.

"His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun,CON, could have fixed the road but for the hiccups surrounding the issue of fixing the road as result of the refusal of the former Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fasola to give approval to the Ogun State Government but thank God approval has been given now, so work will soon commence in harness " --- Hon Adesina assured.

According to the council's helmsman,his administration had done a lot of palliative works on the road severally, not minding that it is Federal road .

"Along Wasimi  axis, there is a particular portion that has become waterlogged and has made that portion unpassable for motorist, forcing people to make use of wrong way. Though in our own little way , we have cleared the blocked underground drainage to allow free flow of water around that place but our efforts at that portion remain to be seen for now . However, we will remain  relentless until we achieve success." ---- he stated.

" I want to use this medium to express my gratitude to Lafarge and Dangote Cement factories for their unflinching support to the government during palliative works on the road."---- he said.

According to the Chairman, the bad state of the road has affected the council Internally Generated Revenue as many traders always hide under the disguise of the bad road by refusing to remit necessary taxes, trade permit to the coffin of the council.

Hon Adesina, therefore, assured Motorists plying the Abeokuta/Lagos Old Road of relief , which according to the Chairman , " Succour is in sight as the Ogun State Government has been given approval to fix the notorious road ."

POLLUTION -OGUN SHUT RECYCLING COMPANY,WARNS OTHERS

Ogun state government has shut  Maths Metal  Recycling Limited,Sagamu for industrial pollution after it deliberately released contaminated oil into its immediate environment

Commissioner for Environment,Ola Oresanya said the state government had no option than to shut the company as  several warnings to the company was not heeded by its management thereby causing grievous harm to people living in its immediate environment.

According to him,the recycling company deliberately punctured holes at the back of its premises to discharge the contaminated oil into its immediate environment instead of installing retention tanks within its premises where the bad oil and other solvents are supposed to be treated.

"By doing this,the management of Maths Metal has not only caused pollution but has committed criminal act that are punishable under the Ogun State Environmental Sanitation Laws as their deliberate action has adversely affected residents of  community living around them."

The state government will now have to establish the extent of damage done to the well-being of members of the community especially the percolation of the contaminated oil on their underground water" Oresanya added

He further revealed that after strict assessment,the state government will determine whether any remediation can be done which the recycling company will be made to pay for while other corrective actions may be considered as deterrent.

Oresanya also used the opportunity to warn other industries operating in the state against pollution and other environmental infractions saying it will not be business as usual as the state government will not shy away from protecting her  residents especially the vulnerable ones from any environmental hazards.

He also reiterates government resolve to backlist consultants that connived with them to commit these infractions and threatened to report them to the federal authorities for possible nationwide sanctions.

The harrowing experience motorists go through on the Lagos- Ota-Abeokuta Expressway would soon be a thing of the past as the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has promised that construction work would soon commence on the road.

The governor also disclosed that the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered Mass Transit Buses would be launched next week Monday.

Speaking at this year's Odun Omo Owu celebration with the theme "A New Dawn" held at Oba Adeleye Park, Sokori, Abeokuta North Local Government Area, the governor also said his administration has commenced the construction of a Dry Port at Kajola whose multiplying effects would further open up the State for investments.

Governor Abiodun who was the Special Guest of Honour at the occasion, said the conversation of the mass buses to CNG, was part of the palliative measures taken to lessen the effects of fuel subsidy removal, saying Ogun State remains the first in the country to record such achievement.

While highlighting the creation of the Ogun State Investment Promotion Agency (OGUNIPA) and the establishment of the Ogun State Business Environment Council (OGBEC), as some of the steps taken to boost investments and eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks, Governor Abiodun declared that the State is the third in Internally Generated Revenue and the third largest economy in the country.

He said: "We have also invested heavily in security, thus making Ogun State one of the safest and most suitable States for investment to thrive in Nigeria. This has tremendously helped us to curtail pockets of violence across the state, especially the recent cult clashes at Sagamu. 

"Without any fear of contradiction, Kabiyesi and distinguished guests here present, I can boldly say that as at today, we have perhaps the most conducive environment and adequate infrastructural development models that ensure that Ogun State is the safest place to live, work and do business and we are proud as a Government on this feat.

"We are happy because our commitment, initiatives, vision, dedication, resolute and our refusal to be distracted by treacherous politicians and backstabbers have continued to yield positive results, as existing businesses are thriving while new investments are being attracted in multitude into our dear State."

The governor who described the theme of the festival as apt, said the nation has witnessed a new dawn with the recent judgement of the Supreme Court that reaffirmed the election of President Bola Tinubu, noting that the nation would soon take her rightful position in the comity of nations as a result of the various policies introduced to reshaping the nation's economy.

Abiodun who described the Odun Omo Owu celebration as a veritable platform to showcase the rich culture of the Owu people, noted that in Yoruba history, they have demonstrated bravery, strength of character and cognitive capacity, adding that the kingdom has produced notable Nigerians who have made meaningful impact locally and internationally.

The governor added: "Let me make it abundantly clear that the contemporary history of Yoruba race is completely inchoate without the role of the Owu Kingdom, especially in the early 19th century downward.

"It is a thing of joy today that despite the temporary setback of those days, the people of Owu has proudly created a common cultural identity and distinct heritage within the Nigeria's political space, especially in the South West.

Morocco, Portugal and Spain share their vision for the FIFA World Cup 2030

The Presidents of Morocco, Portugal and Spain’s Football Associations met in Rabat today to sign a letter confirming their interest to bid for the FIFA World Cup 2030 and share their vision of the tournament with the world.

With the bidding process now officially launched by FIFA, the three FA Presidents met in person to confirm their interest to bid – the first step on FIFA’s bidding process timeline – and celebrate this official milestone together.

Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fernando Gomes, President of the Portuguese Football Federation and Pedro Rocha, President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, shared their vision of a tournament that further enhances the legacy of the FIFA World Cup, grows football, and makes an impact across the world.

100 years after the first FIFA World Cup, the three countries want to leverage their unique football heritage, vibrant traditions and thousand years of intertwined cultures and shared history to deliver an inclusive, innovative, and sustainable tournament, in a true spirit of celebration. To achieve this, the 2030 World Cup would be organised as a compact, accessible, and fan-focused tournament, which would benefit the whole football ecosystem.

The FIFA World Cup 2030 in Morocco, Portugal and Spain would be the first men's World Cup hosted across two continents, and will be focused on strengthening ties between Europe, Africa and the rest of the world. The cross-continent World Cup would, therefore, be the opportunity to showcase football’s diversity, to foster collaboration between nations and leave a strong social legacy in the three countries, but also around the world.

 Fernando Gomes, the President of the Portuguese Football Federation, emphasized the ambition that organizing the 2030 FIFA World Cup represents and pointed to the mark the three countries want to leave:

"This is a historic moment because it officially begins our process with FIFA to be able to organize the FIFA World Cup in 2030. This is great occasion for us, and highly symbolic given it will be the centenary of the first ever edition of the tournament. But 2030 will be much more than the celebration of the past! Due to the ambition and competence of our three Federations, we believe this tournament will mark a paradigm shift in how major events are delivered in the future. That is our ambition!”

 

Regarding stadiums in the three countries to be included in the final bid, the three Presidents agreed that it is too premature at this stage to make any decisions on this, as the studies and assessment work of technical teams is ongoing.

The next step in FIFA’s bidding process for World Cup 2030 is for the three Federations to submit the bidding Agreements to FIFA at the end of November 2023.

Abiodun mourns Alaba Lawson, says she was a blessing to many

Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has described the death of the Iyalode of Yorubaland, Chief (Mrs) Alaba Lawson, as a huge loss to the nation.

Abiodun, who said he received the news of the passing of the business magnate, educational entrepreneur and administrator with great shock, said he took solace in the fact that the deceased left huge landmarks across a broad spectrum of the Nigerian landscape and would be remembered for being a blessing to thousands of Nigerians who crossed paths with her.

He added that as an epitome of excellence, the late Chief (Mrs) Lawson represented the very best of Nigerian womanhood and was a model to generations of women.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Lekan Adeniran in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Saturday, Abiodun said: “The passing of Chief (Mrs) Alaba Lawson is without doubt a shocking development, but we are consoled by her sterling record of service to humanity and unblemished contributions to the development of Ogun State.

“Born into the highly distinguished Jibolu-Taiwo family of Abeokuta, Chief (Mrs) Lawson was an exemplar of the popular Yoruba dictum of one born into nobility but who goes on to achieve self-rebirth, showcasing the timeless Omoluabi qualities that the Yoruba hold so dear.

“From her education in Nigeria to her sojourn in the United Kingdom, teaching in several schools while studying at the St. Nicholas Montessori Teachers’ Training College at Prince's Gate, England in 1973 where she set a record by becoming the first African to obtain a First Class Diploma in Education, Chief (Mrs) Alaba Lawson showcased uncommon commitment to excellence.

“When she returned home, she established a string of schools that have shaped the lives of generations of students and contributed immensely to Ogun State’s profile as Nigeria’s education capital.

“Whether as  the first female president of NACCIMA, chairman of the board of the Governing Council, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Ogun State;  Otun Iyalode of the Egba Christians, or the Iyalode of Yorubaland, Chief (Mrs) Lawson was the quintessential definition of a pacesetter. She was thoroughly accomplished and distinguished.

Ogun: Police, NSCDC Set For Showdown At Value Jet/SWAN Security Cup Final

The Nigeria Police Force, popularly referred to as Police Machine will on Sunday, 29th October, 2023 trade tackle with their counterpart from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the final of the 3rd edition of Value Jet SWAN Security and Safety cup competition in a repeat of the 2021 edition.

The Police Machine who are playing in their third consecutive finals of the competition lost by a lone goal to NSCDC in the final of maiden edition of the competition, courtesy Ayorinde Fisayo's strike in about ten minutes to the end of the game played at th Main bowl of MKO international stadium Kuto Abeokuta.

The team were also humbled by Nigeria Customs Service by four goals to one in the final of the 2022 edition of the competition.

To get to the final, the NSCDC football team defeated the defending Champions, the Nigeria Customs Service by 5 goals to four on penalties in a tension-soaked encounter after the match had ended one goal adrift.

Police Machine thrashed Nigerian Correctional Service by four goals to nothing in the second semi final games played at the practicing pitch of the MKO stadium Kuto Abeokuta.

The Nigeria Customs Service will battle Nigerian Correctional Service in the third place play off match billed for MKO stadium by 2pm.

Meanwhile, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state is to declare the 3rd edition of the Value Jet/SWAN Security and Safety Cup competition closed on Sunday, 29th October, 2023.

A statement by the organizers indicates that the venue of the final match involving Nigeria Police Force and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, is MKO International stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta by 4pm.

The statement added that the Commissioner for Sports Development in Ogun State, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, his counterpart in the Ministry of Forestry, Hon. Taiwo Oludotun and Chairman, Ogun State House of Assembly committee on Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu  Igbalaye are the Special guests of the occasion.

It notes that Heads of security agencies and other stakeholders in the sports industry, especially the Chairman, Local Organising Committee, 2024 National Sports Festival, Chief Bukola Olopade are expected to grace the event.

Supreme Court Ruling Seals Unshakable Victory of President Tinubu In The 2023 Presidential Election-Abiodun

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has described the ruling by the Supreme Court, which dismissed the petitions of the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party against the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a watershed and a moment of joy for all Nigerians.

Governor Abiodun, in a statement he personally signed on Thursday described the judgement as rooted in law, even as he praised the judiciary for standing by the truth at all times.

The governor said the victory is for all Nigerians, moreso as it came when President Tinubu's policies aimed at lifting Nigeria out of her current malaise were beginning to take shape.

He siad: "In confirmation of his victory as a true reflection of the wishes of the majority of Nigerians who trooped out to exercise their franchise on February 25 this year, the Supreme Court, today, threw out the appeals filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), putting to rest eight months of contestation over the outcome of the poll.

"I congratulate Mr President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the leadership of our great Party, and indeed all Nigerians on this great victory. This is a great moment for Nigeria, a watershed in our history, a moment of joy and pride for all of us.This is not just a victory for the President, it is a victory for the Nigerian State.

Bizarre : Suspected Yahoo Boy Kîlls and Slâughters his UNIPORT Girlfriend

A man identified as Collins has been arrested for kîlling his girlfriend identified as Justina along Road 15, NTA Road, Port Harcourt.

Collins was caught by his estate’s security personnel when he was trying to dispose her corpse after killîng and extracting her eyes and breasts.

Following the alarm raised by the security personnel, eyewitnesses stormed the suspect’s apartment and found Justina’s slaughtered body parts in sacks dripping with bloöd.

Justina was a 300-level University of Port Harcourt student before her premature demise.

NNL Board Postpones League Kick Off Date

The board of Nigeria National League (NNL) has announced the postponement of the kick off date for the 2023/2024 league season to a yet to be announced date.

The league originally planned to kick off on Saturday October 28 according to the NNL was postponed to enable clubs conclude registration for the new season.

According to a statement by the NNL, the board in   arriving at the decision took into cognizance the inability of teams to meet up with the Wednesday, October, 25  registration deadline because of the economic situation facing the country.

 

"We regret to announce that the 2023/2024 league season originally planned to kick off this Saturday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital has been postponed to a new date which will be communicated to teams once clubs finishes formalization of registration process.

The statement explained that with the latest development, clubs are now advised to conclude their registration on November 3, 2023 noting that once registration is concluded, the board of NNL will announce a new date for the commencement of the league.

Teams are however warned that failure to meet up with the new registration date means non participation in the league.

Nigeria and Ethiopia’s senior girls put up a hard-fought battle in Addis Ababa on Wednesday afternoon with the game ending 1-1 to set up an interesting return leg in Abuja on Tuesday next week.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade’s scorching shot from the edge of the box, six minutes after the restart, restored parity at the Abebe Bikila Stadium, after the Ethiopian girls had surprisingly taken the lead in the 6th minute of play as Birkie Amare made hay from a corner kick.

With Asisat Oshoala in the top-striking position, Uchenna Kanu and Gift Monday operated from the wings, with Michelle Alozie switched to left back to allow Nicole Payne take charge at right back. Oluwatosin Demehin and Akudo Ogbonna took control at the centre of the defence, and with Christy Ucheibe and Halimatu Ayinde unavailable, Peace Efih joined Toni Payne and Ajibade to string things together in the middle.

Both teams found it hard to create many opportunities in a tight first period, though Asisat Oshoala should have done better with an opportunity from Payne’s cross halfway into the period.

After Ajibade restored parity, the Falcons took full control, and substitute Ifeoma Onumonu should have put Nigeria in the lead in the 64th minute, only to be denied as she cocked the trigger.

Payne and Onumonu combined to create a gilt-edged opportunity in the 79th minute, but once more Oshoala failed to make hay.

The Falcons thought they had won it when Onumonu towered above all to head into the net on the dot of time. However, Algerian referee Lamia Atman spotted foul play in the build-up.

Both teams will clash again at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Tuesday, with the winner on aggregate to proceed to the third round, where the winner of the Cameroon/Uganda fixture awaits.

Isheri Flooding: We Need FG's Intervention - Abiodun

Ogun State Governor,  Prince Dapo Abiodun has called for the intervention of the Federal Government in tackling the perennial flooding that affect Isheri community in Ifo Local Government Area of the State.

Governor Abiodun, who made the call when he received the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Tsev, who paid him a courtesy call in his office at Oke-Mosan Abeokuta, on Tuesday, said the magnitude of the flooding was beyond the capacity of the state government, hence the call for prompt attention by the federal government.

The governor noted that the scale and magnitude of the flooding was beyond what the state can handle.

He said: "Yesterday, I was in Isheri North where we bordered Lagos. The whole of that area is flooded and that is one of our most valuable parcel of land with Estates for upper and medium income earners and we also have lots of industries there because of its proximity to Lagos State.

"We need the federal government's not just attention, but intervention, but Intervention because the remedial action that is required to resolve this crisis is beyond what the state can handle and of course, we do not even have the expertise and beyond expertise, we do not have the financial capacity to solve the problem.

"This place is completely build up and we are not going to start demolishing houses. The level of investments in that area is so high. We must have a team from the state government, Ministries of Water Resources, Environment and of course Humanitarian Affairs to see what we can do collaboratively, to bring immediate term relief to our people. We should also work towards medium term and more sustainable long term solutions to the problem."

While noting that Dams are created to be a source of water supply for the use of the people, industries and for agricultural purposes, Governor Abiodun however regretted that in the last few years, the state has experienced perennial flooding, attributing the menace to lack of purpose build channels, building on flood planes and drainages, saying it was time to rise up and deal with the problem once and for all.

He said the state was aware of the Ministry's Clean Up Nigeria, Water Sanitation Hygiene and the e-Wash programmes, adding that his administration would key into them as there is a nexus between sanitation and health.

Speaking earlier, Prof. Tsev said he was in the state to see the ministry's facilities at Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, which included the Oyan Dam and farms, and the flooding in some parts of the State, assuring that action would be taken to mitigate the challenges.

He said the ministry was concerned with the perennial flooding as a result of the release of water from Oyan Dam, adding that lasting solution must be found to the problem.

The minister said: "We are in Ogun State to take a total assignment of what is happening with a view to prevent it . The flooding can be prevented and we will be in Ogun and Lagos states, to see what can be done to tackle the problem once and for all.

"We are also here to see how open defecation can be eliminated as well as how the State can key into our various programmes like the Clean Up Nigeria, Water Sanitation Hygiene programme and the e- Wash programme."

Prof. Tsev said that Ogun State is a major stakeholder in ensuring food security for the nation which is one of the mandates given to his ministry by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Lagos Doctor Bags Life Imprisonment For Rape

The Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence sitting in Ikeja on Tuesday sentenced the Medical Director of Optimal Cancer Care Foundation, Doctor Olufemi Olaleye, to life imprisonment for the defilement of his wife’s niece.

Olaleye was arraigned on two counts which bordered on defilement and sexual assault by penetration of his wife’s niece, preferred against him by the Lagos State Government

Justice Rahman Oshodi sentenced him after he found him guilty of the offence of defilement and sexual penetration of a 15-year-old girl.

The judge held that the prosecution was able to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt and that all the evidence before the court corroborated that of the victim.

Olaleye was accused of unlawfully having sexual intercourse with his wife’s 15-year-old niece. He was also accused of sexually assaulting the teenager by penetrating her mouth with his penis.

During the trial, the convict’s wife, Aderemi Olaleye, told the court that her husband had been sexually abusing her niece during her stay with them.

She also testified that the convict first introduced pornography and oral sex to the victim, and he released sperm into her mouth, stating that it started from March 2020 to July 2021.

The witness narrated to Justice Oshodi that the girl confessed to a relative and their driver that the doctor had been sleeping with her and threatened to kill her and the witness if she told anyone.

The mother of two, who is the complainant, said on oath, “My lord, on November 27, 2021, my second cousin told my aunty, who is my mother’s sister, that since March 2020, Femi has been sexually abusing her and introduced her to pornography; from there, he graduated to oral sex with her, and that he does this in different places in the home where there are no cameras.”

The Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh has stated that Nigeria's journey towards sporting excellence hinges on the strategic provision of essential sports infrastructure and nurturing talents at the grassroots level. 

He stated this during a radio engagement with Nigerians on Brila Media's Sports Fans Parliament. He said a critical first step towards this noble goal involves a rejuvenation of the school sports system.

Senator Enoh passionately asserted that revitalizing School Sports and returning it to its former glory is imperative. Ogun Approves Appointment Of Three Traditional Rulers

The Ogun State Government on Monday approved the appointment of three traditional rulers in the state.

The State Executive Council at its first sitting held at the Exco Chamber, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta approved the appointment of Prince Azeez Akinpelu Ajiro as Oja of Agosasa.

The Council also approved the appointment of Prince Agboola Elijah Akanni Sogbayi as Baale, Orile Oko and Chief Sifianu Sunday Adisa Jolaosho as the Olu of Wasimi. 

The appointments take immediate effect.

The governor added  that a comprehensive assessment that would lead to permanent solution to the menace of  flooding in the affected area  would be conducted very soon.

According to him, the state government will see to the elevation of some roads in the area as parts of the solutions to the problem.

The govenor said: "We will prioritize the works here because I am touched with what I have seen. I will ensure that we immediately begin to see signs of relief as we are stepping this up. The Minister of State for Environment is already aware. The Vice President is already aware and also the president. It will be dealt with as an emergency and we are taking it as such.

"As an emergency, I will like to take it up myself. Please continue to bear with us as we are going to conduct a comprehensive assessment of what we need to do to make this place conducive for living.

"Whatever that assessment comes up with is what we are going to implement. So, we are going to first start with ensuring that we have the required road infrastructure at the appropriate levels.

"So if you now built in such a way that we need to relocate you, we have to do that. Whatever it is that we must do to ensure that place does not persistently experience flood, we will do it. But let us wait for the result of the studies to come back and then we will begin to take that decision as and when the situation arises." 

Addressing residents of Riverview Estate, Governor Abiodun said he has requested for an area survey of the entire estate to identify critical areas that needed immediately intervention.

He assured that the intervention would come through the construction of an elevated road with adequate drainages to mitigate their suffering.

"I want to assure you today, knowing fully well that we are a promise keeping administration, we do not say what we do not mean, my heart goes out to you, it is very unfortunate, I am giving my commitment today, the commissioner for works will come and see what needs to be done. 

"We have also engage the Minister of State for the Environment, who fortunately, is from Ogun State and I have already brought this to his attention. 

"Before the end of the week, I will also table it before the Vice President and the President as well so that we ensure that this problem gets all the desired attention and consequently gets the desired solution so we can bring this to an end," he said.

The governor also disclosed that he and the Minister of Water Resources would visit the community in few days time.

"We will also discuss the issue of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Authority and try and interrogate the activities there and understand how their activities affect this community and other communities with respect to the opening and closing of the dam," he said.

The governor described the environment around the Kara cattle market as an eyesore and not befitting the dreams of a "new Ogun State".

He said that the market was not conducive for human living and not in tandem with the Sustainable Development Goals and waste disposal.

He, however, acknowledged the area as one of the biggest commercial operation that provide services to a large number of people, even as he assured that government would go into a satisfactory agreement with the market men and women after which a comprehensive beautification of the area would take place.

The Chairman, Riverview Estate, Abayomi Akande, in his remarks, intimated the governor of the suffering residents of the area are going through as a result of the flooding.

He said that there is a need for a panel of inquiry into the operations of Oyan Dam to stop incessant release of water to cause havoc in the State

He applauded the governor for sending miscreants packing from the road, saying residents of the axis have suffered robbery attacks and other criminalities for quite awhile.

Akande urged the state government to think of converting the area into a Government Residential Area (GRA) through Public Private Partnership arrangement to fast track its development.

Paris 2024: Onyenezide Replaces Ayinde As Ohale, Otu, Ucheibe To Miss Ethiopia Clash

Midfielder Esther Onyenezide, who impressed at last year’s FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup finals in Costa Rica as Nigeria reached the quarter-finals, has been drafted to take the place of 2023 FIFA World Cup star Halimatu Ayinde in Nigeria’s squad for the 2024 Women Olympic Football Tournament fixture against Ethiopia’s senior women national team.

 

The delegation of home-based players and technical and backroom staff from Nigeria flew into Addis Ababa on Sunday for Wednesday’s opening leg encounter at the Abebe Bekila Stadium, and the foreign-based players have started arriving for the big match as well. The Super Falcons will host the second leg of the second-round fixture at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Tuesday, 31st October 2023.

Midfielder Regina Otu, who missed the FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Australia and New Zealand in the summer, and defender Osinachi Ohale who plays for Pachuca FC of Mexico, have been ruled out of the fixture. Another World Cup star, Christy Ucheibe, of Portuguese club SL Benfica, is also out of the encounter.

The winner on aggregate will confront the winner of the fixture between Cameroon and Uganda. The Indomitable Lionesses drew a bye, while Uganda overpowered Rwanda 4-3 on aggregate.

Ethiopia’s senior girls, nicknamed Lucy, turned back the senior women national team of Chad 10-0 in the first round of the series, played in the month of July. The Ethiopians won the first lef 6-0 in Addis Ababa on 13th July, before lashing their hosts 4-0 in N’Djamena five days later.

 

The Confederation of African Football has appointed Lamia Atman from Algeria as referee for Wednesday’s encounter, with her compatriots Asma Feriel Ouahab, Sara Kemmad and Ghada Mehat as assistant referee 1, assistant referee 2 and fourth official respectively.

 

Angelique Tuyishime from Rwanda will serve as referee assessor while Tabitha Wambui Njoroge from Kenya will be in the role of match commissioner.

 

For Tuesday’s return leg in Abuja, Edoh Kindedji from Togo will be referee, with her compatriots Abra Sitsofe Agbedanou and Kossiwa Kayigan Awoutey as assistant referee 1 and assistant referee 2 respectively. Yacine Samassa from Mauritania will be in the role of fourth official.

 

Daloba Oulare from Guinea will be the referee assessor and Christine Ziga from Ghana will serve as match commissioner.

Federation Cup 2024 kicks off with registration of clubs

 

The processes for the 2024 Federation Cup men and women competitions will begin on Tuesday with the registration of interested Clubs by the Football Associations in the 36 States of the Federation as well as the Federal Capital Territory.

 

After the one-month registration period, the State FAs will submit the completed players’ licenses to the Nigeria Football Federation for production, between 1st – 8th December, 2023, before the commencement of the State competition that has been scheduled for the period 20th January – 25th February 2024.

 

Each State FA and the FCT FA will on 26th February 2024, provide the NFF with its two representatives for the national competition.

 

Registration fee by clubs for the men’s competition has been pegged at N150,000 while clubs interested in participating in the women’s competition will pay the sum of N100,000 each. Late registration for the men’s competition will be N200,000 and N120,000 for the women’s competition.
