Stop giving false hope to your followers; submit yourself honorably to security agencies, Ogun APC replies Adebutu

The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Friday, said the most honourable thing for the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the March 18th governorship election, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, to do was to submit himself to security agencies over the allegations of electoral fraud levelled against him.

The party also  advised Adebutu to stop dishing out  false hope to his followers, insisting that  his alleged atrocities during the last poll would be pursued to a logical conclusion in the competent court of justice to serve as a deterrent to others.

Ogun APC  was reacting to a statement in the media credited to Adebutu, where he raised issues concerning  the last gubernatorial election in the state, including the involvement of a former governor of the state, Gbenga Daniel,  among others.

In a statement signed by the Assistant Publicity Secretary of the party in the State,  Olusola Ogunsanya Blessed, and made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, the State capital, the party said the statement issued by Adebutu was laced with intent to cover up certain atrocities and change the real narrative.

The party claimed that going by the tune of the Adebutu's statement,  the PDP chieftain and Daniel must have been embarrassed by the exposition of their alleged shenanigans and conspiracy during the last general election.

The statement read in part: “While Adebutu, in his cognitively impoverished piece dripping with vile abuse, failed woefully to defend the fact that Gbenga Daniel, against good conscience, worked for him and his party, the PDP, and betrayed the party that gave him a ticket and even sponsored him to emerge as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he tried to be clever by half by denying the allegation of bribery levelled against the former Ogun Governor with overwhelming evidence.

"For every discerning political watcher, it is crystal clear that Adebutu and Daniel were seriously embarrassed by the exposition of their atrocities in the public glare, and so the bribery, criminal conspiracy and money laundering suspect currently hibernating in a foreign country resorted to defending the indefensible and further exposing the astounding degree of moral decadence and perfidy that defines their relationship.

"Adebutu's pattern of defence in which he described Daniel as “a very rich man in his own  right” obviously depicts how shallow he is despite his age. His line of thought regrettably defies critical reasoning and is a reflection of his highfalutin  and bogus persona.

"It is even more childish for the PDP guber candidate to ignorantly mention his father and Gbenga Daniel as benefactors of Governor Dapo Abiodun, astutely elevating beer parlour gossip and clueless innuendos as tools of public engagement.

"On the issue of performance and reelection of Governor Dapo Abiodun, it is surprising that a man like Oladipupo Adebutu, who is  known to be irredeemably indolent and mortally afflicted with mental laziness could accuse any government of non-performance and corruption, when he lacks the intellectual stamina to do a thorough assessment of government policies and activities".

The statement further accused Adebutu of stooping  so low to be involved in alleged electoral malpractices and money laundering and brazenly comprised the electoral process.

It added that Governor Dapo Abiodun had the people solidly behind him and had since settled for governance, urging Adebutu to summon courage and come back home to face justice.

"The most pertinent among issues raised by Adebutu in his treatise is that of acceptability and popularity of Governor Dapo Abiodun. The salient question to ask Adebutu is this: If as he claimed Governor Dapo Abiodun was not popular and couldn't have won the March 18th poll, why did Adebutu and his accomplices resort to broad-day rigging by conniving with Zenith Bank to issue 200,000 ATM verve credit cards, preloaded with N10,000 each to bribe the electorate in the State?

"A popular candidate would only have carefully monitored his votes like Governor Dapo Abiodun did, and not stooped so low as to go the way of criminality, audaciously breaching the sanctity of the electoral process like Adebutu and the PDP did.

"Finally, if Adebutu is the man he claims to be, he should summon the courage to come back home and submit himself to the security agencies for prosecution. This is not the time for him to give false hope to his gullible followers.

"And to be sure, the  people of Ogun State are solidly behind their Governor, and are very optimistic that  their  stolen votes  by Adebutu and the PDP through massive rigging will be retrieved by the Tribunal soonest", the statement further read.

Governor Abiodun Mourns APC Chieftain, Pa Fohun Abiola, Condoles Family, Associates

Governor Dapo Abiodun has commiserated with the family, associates, and loved ones of Pa Fohun Abiola, who was until his death, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun Central Senatorial District.

The governor, who said his heart was full with grief, hailed the late elder statesman as having led a life with invaluable leadership and fatherly qualities.

The Governor said: "With a heart laden with grief, I extend my sincere condolences to the family, associates and loved ones of Pa Fohun Abiola, Chairman for the All Progressives Congress, APC in Ogun Central Senatorial District.

"Pa Fohun Abiola will be greatly missed not only for his fatherly role to all but also for the invaluable and impeccable leadership he gave in our great party as well as in his immediate and larger community."

Governor Abiodun said Pa Abiola left behind positive legacies worthy of emulation, as they were indelible.

"Pa Fohun Abiola will be remembered for the principles he left behind that will guide generations to come to live a life worth celebrating even in death," the governor stated.

He prayed for the departed soul of the deceased to rest in peace.

"As we pray for God's divine support to his loved ones to pass through this grief, we pray eternal peace for Pa Abiola," he added.

Abiodun mourns death of Amotekun boss, Akinremi, commiserates with family

Governor Dapo Abiodun on Tuesday described the death of the State Commander of the Amotekun Corps, David Akinremi, as a great loss to the security architecture of the state.

The governor expressed sadness over the untimely death of the commander.

Akinremi, a retired Commissioner of Police, died on Monday, after an undisclosed ailment.

He was appointed as the Commander of the newly established Amotekun Corpsin 2021 by Governor Abiodun.

Prince Abiodun, in a condolence message from the Governor’s Office, described the late Akinremi as a gallant officer, who contributed in no small measure to the peace and security currently being witnessed in the state.

According to the governor, the collaboration of the Amotekun Corps under his leadership with other security agencies has helped in riding the State of crimes and criminality.

“This is a sad moment for us in Ogun State. Commander Akinremi was instrumental in our efforts to rid our dear State of crimes and criminality.

“He contributed in no small measure to the state of peace and tranquility currently prevailing in Ogun State. We will miss his immeasurable contribution to the state.

I commiserate with the family he left behind. I also commiserate with the rank and file of the Amotekun Corps. Our government will do the utmost to lessen the pain of his exit both on the family and the Amotekun Corps,” the governor said.

I see more Egba players in NNL/NPFL, says Abeokuta Allstars President, as he becomes Egba NNL/NPFL Professionals' Patron

It was football artistry at its best on Saturday 24th June, 2023 at the training pitch of the MKO Abiola Intl. Stadium in Abeokuta, when the home team Oluwole FC of Abeokuta took on the "Egba NNL/NPFL/NLO Professionals" for the end of the season get-together friendly match, first of its kind with fanfare and peagentry.

The match was watched by a mammoth of fans and spectators alike, amongst whom was the newly decorated Patron of the Egba NNL/NPFL Professionals, Alhaji Lawal Adeoye Waheed who is also the President, Allstars Football Club Abeokuta, Patron of Nigeria Football Supporters' Club, Ogun State Chapter. Chairman of Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria, (YSFON) Ogun State Chapter. Patron, Ogun State Athletics Association.  Chairman, Chairman Ogun State PFAN. Chairman, Ogun State Teqball Association and Ogun State Coordinator of Community Football Foundation.

Speaking after the match which ended 1-nill in favour of the NNL/NPFL/NLO Professionals, Alhaji Lawal admonished the players on both sides, especially the upcoming ones not to relent on their efforts in order to attain the highest level they desired for themselves,he said "my expectations is to see more of Egba Players in the Nigeria National League (NLL) and the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), and if the Oluwole boys, a team playing in the State League can hold the Professionals except for some tactical prowess from the big boys, I see many more of the home boys fixturing in the big Leagues  soon and some of them even moving abroad to continue playing their trade"

The Patron of the Ogun State Athletics Association and Chairman of Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria,PFAN Ogun State Chapter continues, "they should keep up the spirit as they intensify their trainings and they should put in mind that if a player wants to be above average, that player must be ready to do extra, the Coach would only train the team together, an above-average player must design programs on his own and do more"

Also speaking, Captain of the NNL/NPFL Allstars, Jamiu Sanni Pawpaw who is also the Skipper of the Ogun State-owned National League outfit, Gateway United said he felt very elated playing the match, that they organised the game just to felicitate, wine and dine together after a hectic season in the League, he charged the upcoming players to put all efforts in the game with assurances that the sky would be the limit. He prayed to see more players of Egba descent turn professionals. 

Elkanemi Warriors of Maiduguri's Goaltender, Sheriff Kehinde who was in goal for the "big boys" said they all started the game of football together as rookies, some are only privileged to be playing at a higher level now, he said the upcoming ones should never be discouraged, that there are many talented Footballers in the State, they should only work hard on their talents and pray for God's grace.

The only goal of the match came off the boots of Smart City FC of Lagos' attacking Midfielder, Kareem Yusuf, also in the lineup was his teammate, Fatai Odumbaku, others include, Olamilekan Abdusalam and Kabiru Popoola both of Vandrezzer FC, Gateway Utd Football club's right-back, Sulaimon 'Soccer' Ogunleye and mercurial Midfielder Sunkanmi Odusina were amongst many others in d match.

The team was coached by another Egba Legend, former 3SC of Ibadan Skipper and Coach of Abeokuta Stormers SC, Shakiru Lawal who was also decorated as the Professionals' Coach.

Gbenga Daniel is shamelessly dishonest, didn't support Tinubu, Dapo Abiodun-Ogun APC

Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has slammed the former Governor of the State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, over  his latest interview in the media,  describing it as   'drama of absurdity and cocktails of lies'.

Daniel, who presently represents Ogun East Senatorial district at the red chamber of the National Assembly, had granted media interview, where he alleged that  Governor Dapo Abiodun is still in dagger drawn with him for supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during the APC presidential primaries of 2022 among  other allegations.

Reacting to Daniel's interview on Monday, the State Assistant Publicity Secretary of APC in the State, Olusola Ogunsanya,  in  a statement issued and made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, the State metropolis, stressed that  the said interview was an embodiment of falsehood and  blatant lies.

According to the statement, at no time did  Gbenga Daniel make a definite position to support the President, as it accused him of double standards and pecuniary tendencies.

The statement further accused Daniel to have supported  the PDP and it's candidates during the last general elections in Ogun State, alleging  that the lawmaker collected money to the tune of two billions naira from the Adebutu's and worked against his party, the APC.

It claimed the party  and Governor Dapo Abiodun rescued Daniel at the point of his political oblivion, saying the former Governor had displayed an act of ingratitude by his action.

"Given the general perception about the former governor and his controversial image across Nigeria, it is basically needless to grant the man of many colours the dignity of a response. However, considering the power and passion of the media, especially beyond the State and for the benefit of many of our citizens in the Diaspora, we have decided to set the records straight and place Daniel where he pathetically belongs.

"In the first place, the lawmaker by his antecedents in private business and in power painted a picture of dishonesty, making many to wonder how he managed to get near the power corridor, to the extent of becoming the Governor of a state like Ogun.

"Every Nigerian in perfect consciousness of political events since 1999 knows Daniel as being chameleonic in appearance and deed; his unstable carriage with vague, perpetual laughter appropriately depict his dangerous  persona, cocktail of lies and duplicity. His  Sunday interview, which stood logic and truth on its head  was the latest in the series, as he relentlessly pursued  myopic and selfish interest.

"It is laughable to hear Gbenga Daniel talking about his comradeship in the progressive fold and claiming that Governor Dapo Abiodun was not part of the fold between 1998 and 1999, when everyone is aware of how Daniel with his sneaky  Machiavellian tactics and maneuvers surreptitiously dislodged a progressive party in the State in 2003 and became governor on the platform of PDP.

" There is no record of Daniel’s role in Tinubu’s emergence as governor in Lagos State in 1999. In 2003, he contested under PDP and not AD, so what structure was he talking about? He ruled for eight years as a PDP governor before Ibikunle Amosun dislodged him and declared him persona non grata in the state, confining him to oblivion and castrating his businesses.

 "This is the same man who was rescued from political ignominy by Governor Abiodun against strong resistance from party members who were well apprised of what he represented. His liberation from the political oblivion into which he threw himself out of greed became necessary after his party, the PDP, lost presidential election in 2019. Many were taken aback by the speed with which Gbenga Daniel dumped his principal, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the PDP despite his position as the Director General of the Atiku Abubakar Campaign organization.

 "Daniel, an outlier of outsider in the APC during the presidential primaries of June 2022 who was neither a delegate nor had a single delegate from Ogun State, claimed that he supported Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu against Governor Dapo Abiodun's wish. What a shameless merchant of falsehood!

"To put it succinctly, Governor Abiodun, being a genuine leader and a progressive never worked against his party, APC unlike Senator Gbenga Daniel. And to give credence to his unflinching commitment and loyalty to the party, as soon as Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu emerged the presidential candidate of the APC, he immediately deployed all his political machineries and structures to support him, stoutly resisting all the  gang-up within the fold spearheaded by Gbenga Daniel and his co-travellers. During the February 25 election, he won the State for Asiwaju Tinubu by a wide margin. 

"That was quite unlike Gbenga Daniel who, for filthy lucre, criminally connived with the PDP after allegedly collecting N2 billion  from Chief Kessington Adebutu and worked against the APC and its candidates in the presidential and gubernatorial elections.

"Happily, President Tinubu knows more than any other person the dangerous antics of Gbenga Daniel and what he represents in the Nigeria's political circles, and was alleged to have taunted  him in the presence of some Senators, when he advised him to work on his reputation as a serial betrayal,  but a leopard  will never change its spots.

"We, therefore, implore the former governor to turn a new leaf  from  his now legendary dubious political  antics, act of  ingratitude and political  prostitution that have dishonourably  marked his political career over the years with matchless  notoriety and  infamy. These are indeed unbecoming of a man of his age", the statement read in part.

OGUN NUJ MOURNS THE PASSAGE OF PROF MURAINA LAI OSO

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council received with great shock the passage of Prof Muraina Lai Oso in a fatal motor accident on Saturday, June 24, 2023 along Sagamu-Ore-Benin road. 

The death has thrown the Journalism industry into mourning as the industry has lost yet again an encyclopedia of communication theories, a teacher, a father figure, someone who built many libraries in human being.

In a statement signed by the chairman, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju and his Secretary, Comrade Bunmi Adigun, the council described his death as a rude shock calling on the Nigerian government to declare state of emergency on provision of road infrastructure to check unabated loss of lives due to bad roads which has led to loss of one of the eggheads of the profession.

Every individual who read Mass Communication or any related media courses must have passed through or drank from the pool of knowledge of this Prof Oso as he made himself available to teach, nurture and breed media icons who today have excelled in the industry.

"The worse enemy of mankind is death. He kills with no mercy. He truncated human dreams and aspirations in life therefore inflicting unforgettable pains in the minds of the people, "Iku Oro re da, Isa Oku Isegun re da?"

May Almighty God give the family of Prof Muriana Lai Oso and the Journalism profession the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.

Strangely, no sooner as he got the ticket,  than Daniel returned to his traits,  biting the hands that fed him.

To put it succinctly, Governor Abiodun, being a genuine leader and a progressive never worked against his party, APC unlike Senator Gbenga Daniel. There is overwhelming evidence to substantiate the claim that Daniel specifically directed his followers to work for the PDP and all its candidates for all political offices in the 2023 general election in Ogun State.It was on the strength of this evidence that APC youths moved against him and vehemently called for his dismissal from the party for committing such atrocities against their party despite rescuing him from his perilous situation. They flayed Daniel for defrauding their party by collecting mobilization funds from Governor Abiodun, only to betray him and APC. The people of Ogun State can never forget and will not forgive Gbenga Daniel for paying billions of naira as governor, in the name of feasibility studies, for bogus projects, thereby incurring a huge debt burden that the state is still battling with today. 

Happily, President Tinubu knows more than any other person the dangerous antics of Gbenga Daniel and what he represents in the Nigeria's political circles, and was alleged to have taunted  him in the presence of some Senators, when he advised him to work on his reputation as a serial betrayal,  but a leopard  will never change its spots.

Adebutu, Ogun PDP suffer another legal loss as tribunal dismisses application

It was another round of legal setback for Ladi Adebutu and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday as the Ogun State Election Petitions Tribunal dismissed their application seeking to strike out Governor Dapo Abiodun’s prayers establishing vote buying allegations against them.

Previously, Governor Abiodun had made a strong allegation of electoral fraud against the PDP candidate, Ladi Adebutu, and his party, allegedly perpetrated during the March 18 governorship election in the state.

Consequently, acting on what it termed a plethora of evidences at its disposal through discreet investigation and the confessions of some members of PDP who were caught in action, criminal charges were filed against Adebutu, PDP, and Zenith Bank, with the police accusing them of gross criminal conspiracy and money laundering during the polls, following which Adebutu hurriedly sneaked out of the country.

Meanwhile, the portion of Governor Abiodun's response at the Tribunal, which specifically indicates the degree and effects of electoral fraud committed by Adebutu and the PDP, was unanimously admitted by the panel, against the application seeking to strike it out, giving the governor another victory in the ongoing legal proceedings.

Adebutu and PDP had argued that their petition did not include allegations of vote buying and so the governor’s defence should not also have included such allegations. 

However, in its ruling, which was delivered by a member, Hon. Justice J.B. Egele and supported by the Chairman Hon Justice H N Kunaza and the other member Hon. Justice Sannusi Shehu, the Tribunal held that Governor Abiodun was not restricted to the same issues that Adebutu and PDP raised in their petition. 

The Tribunal further held that in any event, vote buying is in the same family as corrupt practices, which is a ground on which Adebutu and PDP filed their petition, and accordingly dismissed the application.

Following this ruling, Governor Abiodun is free to present evidence of vote buying by Adebutu and PDP.

Abiodun hails appointment of Egbetokun as Acting Inspector General of Police

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has congratulated the newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Egbetokun’s appointment in acting capacity, pending approval by the Senate, was announced on Monday, alongside Service Chiefs, the National Security Adviser and Comptroller of Customs (CG).

Egbetokun, an indigene of Ogun State was a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), prior to his elevation to replace Usman Alkali Baba.

Prince Abiodun, in a statement from the Governor’s Office, said the elevations of Egbetokun and others were well deserved as they possess the competence to excel in their new positions.

The governor said that the appointment of Egbetokun is an honour to Ogun State, adding that the new IGP, having worked in various commands, formations and departments of the police across the country will bring his wealth of experience to bear on the job.

Abiodun said: I congratulate Mr. Kayode Egbetokun on his elevation to the exalted office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

This is an honour done to us in Ogun State. I believe in the capacity of the new police helmsman to deliver on his mandate to secure Nigeria.

“I am confident that Egbetokun will bring his wealth of experience, garnered over the years to bear on his new assignment. Our people are noted for hard work, competence and dignity.

Abiodun Hosts Ogun Lawmakers, Pledges Open- Door Policy

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun on Tuesday, met with the newly inaugurated members of the 10th Ogun State House of Assembly, with a promise to operate an open-door policy to all regardless of party affiliations, religion or tribe.

Playing host to the members, who were led by the re-elected Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, to the Governor's Office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Prince Abiodun reminded them that politics is over, hence the need for all elective officials to join hands to serve the people.

The governor appreciated the members for conducting themselves in an orderly manner during their proclamation and inauguration, noting that it was an indication that the State is peopled by those who know how to resolve their differences amicably.

"Let me deeply appreciate your sense of responsibility, your leadership qualities that has been exhibited by each and everyone of you at this time. This is how we like to be defined as a State. A State that upholds the tenets of democracy, a State that knows how to resolve its problems, a State that resolves its differences peacefully.

"We must remind ourselves that we are the industrial capital of Nigeria. We are the investor's destination of choice, we are the education and religious capital in Nigeria and we are a State with many firsts. 

"By What you have exhibited today, you have enshrined your names in the history book and your footprints in the sand of times. Ogun State is not a crisis riddled State and that is how we like to be defined," the governor stated.

Prince Abiodun commended those who contested elections and lost, for their magnanimity and ensuring that the proclamation and inauguration was not only peaceful, but rancour free.

He appreciated members of the 9th Assembly for their cooperation and collaboration in the last four years, saying though they are a different arm of government, it was imperative for all arms to cooperatively and collaboratively work together for the successful implementation of the vision mapped out by the executive.

The governor expressed the hope that the 10th Assembly, would build on the foundation laid by the 9th Assembly by legislating on issues that affect the people positively.

"I want to promise you that I will be the governor of all. Elections have been keenly contested and some of us have emerged winners; others were not so lucky but the State remains. We are all here to remain the winner. There is no winner and there is no vanquished. We are all here to represent the people of the State. So politics is now behind us, campaigns are now behind us.

"I am pledging that I will be the governor of all. I will maintain an open door policy to everyone regardless of party affiliations, religion and tribe. I promise to continue to be fair, just and equitable. I promise to support you in the discharge of your legislative duties, which are to pass laws and provide oversights for different sectors of the State," the governor assured.

While calling for the cooperation of the lawmakers, the State helmsman reminded them of the vision of his administration which is "to provide good governance while creating an enabling environment for a Public Private Partnership which is fundamental to the economic growth of the State and individual prosperity of the people and Building Our Future Together mantra as encapsulated in ISEYA".

Speaking earlier, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oluomo, said the members came on a courtesy visit to appreciate the governor for his support to the  House at all times.

He informed the governor on the peaceful conduct of the proclamation and inauguration of the 10th Assembly, assuring him of their resolve to work as a team by cooperating with the executive for peace and the development of the State.

All the 26 members of the Assembly, including the new Deputy Speaker, Hon. Bolanle Ayayi, who is the first woman to occupy that position, were in attendance.

Oluomo’s emergence followed the inauguration of the 10th Assembly by Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Tribunal strikes out PDP, Adebutu’s Reply on vote buying allegation

The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Monday struck out the vote buying allegation, levelled against Governor Dapo Abiodun and the All Progressives Congress (APC) by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu.

Adebutu had dragged Governor Abiodun and the APC to the tribunal challenging their declaration as the winner of the 18, March 2023 governorship election in the state.

But the governor’s lawyers, led by Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), in their defence to the petition, made weighty allegations backed up with police report, establishing that Adebutu and the PDP engaged in vote buying during the elections.

 

On 22 May, 2023, Adebutu and the PDP filed a reply to the defence by Governor Abiodun and the APC, also levelling vote buying allegation against the ruling party.

The Governor’s lawyers, represented by Prof. Taiwo Osipitan (SAN), however, filed an application asking the Tribunal to strike out the Reply in its entirety or in the alternative, to strike out offending paragraphs from that Reply.

Osipitan argued that the Reply filed by Adebutu and PDP contravenes paragraph 16(1) (a & b) of the Electoral Act and the rules of court pleadings. 

While ruling on the matter, the Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice H.N. Kunaza, agreed with the submissions by Prof. Osipitan

In the ruling, supported by the other two members; Hon. Justice J.B. Egele and Hon. Justice Sannusi Shehu, the Tribunal overruled Adebutu’s lawyers, led by Chief Goddy Uche (SAN), saying that the application filed by the Governor’s lawyers was not the kind of application that the Constitution requires to be determined at the end of proceedings in judgment.

Relying on relevant provisions of the Constitution, the Tribunal held that only applications that challenge the tribunal’s jurisdiction or the competence of a petition will be deferred till judgment whereas the application filed by Governor Abiodun’s lawyers was not that kind of application. 

The Tribunal also held that the Reply by Adebutu and PDP was incompetent for multiple reasons.

The Tribunal identified some paragraphs which contained unnecessary and repetitive allegations, others, which contained arguments and legal conclusions (which are not allowed in replies), and some paragraphs which were an improper expansion of the petition earlier filed. 

The Tribunal noted that in their petition, Adebutu and PDP alleged that Governor Abiodun and APC committed corrupt practices during the gubernatorial elections. The Tribunal further noted that vote buying is a specie of corruption and that if PDP and Adebutu truly believed that APC engaged in vote buying, the petitioner ought to have included those allegations in their petition from the start, which they did not do. 

The Tribunal noted that if the Reply filed by Adebutu and PDP was permitted, there was a risk to prejudice, surprise, or even shut out Governor Abiodun and APC on the issues raised in that Reply.

The Tribunal denounced Adebutu and the PDP for coming up with the vote-buying allegation only after APC and Governor Abiodun had done same against them. 

 

With this backdrop, the Tribunal unanimously concluded that Governor Abiodun and APC would be prejudiced if the Reply filed by Adebutu and PDP is allowed. 

The Tribunal held that when Governor Abiodun and APC filed their defence, they joined issues with Adebutu and PDP; that by joining issues, the parties fixed the dispute; and that it was improper to go outside those issues in the Reply.

The Tribunal also found that it was unnecessary to file a Reply in the circumstance, as held in several decisions of the Supreme Court and the Appeal Court. 

The Reply was accordingly struck out.

With this ruling, only the allegation of vote buying made by Governor Abiodun and APC against Adebutu and the PDP would be entertained by the tribunal.

Jelili Owonikoko (SAN), represented INEC, while the APC team was led by Chief Onyeazu Ikpeazu (SAN).

It would be recalled that Adebutu and PDP leaders in Ogun State have been charged for the offence of vote buying by the Federal Government, a situation that has led to Adebutu being a fugitive to the law.

The SWAN Security Cup is a football competition organized by the Sports Writers for security and safety agencies in Ogun state.

The association in a courtesy visit to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the airline company, Chief Kunle Soname said the annual football fiesta has become a tradition 

Speaking on behalf of the association,  SWAN Chairman in Ogun state, Alhaji Hakeem Akintunde who led the delegation to the airline chairman/CEO maintained that, the competition is the only avenue to foster unity, friendship and spirit of esprit de corp among rank and file of the  officers of the security and safety agencies in the state.

and technical Staff of Remo Stars football club, Ikenne-Remo for the Club's historic qualification for the prestigious CAF Champions League, a season after playing in the 2nd-tier CAF Confederations Cup

This latest qualification in just two years of returning back to the Elite Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) was mince-meat nor a fluke, but an outcome of huge investment in Youth development as exemplified by the Junior team Beyond Limit's qualification to the Nigeria National League (NNL) from the Nationwide League which has robbed-off on the senior team. This abrupt change of loyalty raises questions about his motives and exposes his opportunistic nature. In a recent display of attention-seeking antics, Sowunmi penned a baseless letter to Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, accusing the current administration in Ogun State of fostering criminality and violence. This act is nothing more than a feeble attempt to draw attention to himself, as his words lack substance and fail to strike the right chords. Sowunmi arrogantly declares himself and others like him as the tireless workers responsible for Nigeria's progress, disrespecting our leaders and undermining the struggles of true freedom fighters. His inflated sense of self-importance blinds him to the reality that he was unable to secure his own party's ticket in his own state, rendering him insignificant in the eyes of his colleagues.

It is time for Sowunmi to reassess his role in politics and embrace dignity. Rather than engaging in futile attention-seeking tactics, he should focus on supporting the government at both the federal and state levels, allowing them to work without hindrance. Instead of drawing false and unnecessary attention to Ogun State, Sowunmi should recognize that his value lies in collaborating with his party and contributing positively to the development of his community.

Embracing dignity requires a genuine commitment to principles and a willingness to put the collective good above personal interests. Sowunmi must learn to build trust, not through deceit and opportunism, but through consistency, honesty, and humility. By retracing his steps and acknowledging the errors of his past, he can begin the journey towards redemption.

In the realm of politics, true leaders are defined by their unwavering dedication to the welfare of the people they serve. They prioritize the greater good over personal gain and approach their roles with humility and integrity. Sowunmi's current actions and history of opportunism stand in stark contrast to these qualities.

FMC Staff, 50 Others Arrested for Internet-Fraud in Ogun, Oyo

Operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested one Balogun Olawale, a staff of Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun State, alongside forty-seven (47) others for their alleged involvement in internet fraud.

The suspects were arrested on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Idi-Aba area of Abeokuta following intelligence on their alleged fraudulent activities.

The other suspects are Sodiq Iremide, Abiona Solomon, Moshood Sakiru Olamide, Olalekan Sodiq Olawale, Adebayo Ifeoluwa Timilehin, Joshua Gilbert, Adeleke Oluwafemi, Lawal Yusuff Abiodun, Olaleye Adedolapo Emmanuel, Opaleye Olanrewaju, Kazeem Oladimeji, Akinlosotu Ayodeji Ayomiposi, Omowale Haruna, Akinsolotu Kolade Olayinka, Soremikun Ibrahim, Kolawole Boluwatife Daniel, Olufunkunmi Emmanuel, Olatunji Uthman Alabi, Afeez Jimoh Akorede, Lateef Abdulmujeeb Akanbi, Boladale Olajide James and Enitan Tolulope John.

The rest include Orunsolu Sodiq Babatunde, Lamidi Micheal Akolade, Lateef Rahamon Olamilekan, Idowu Micheal Oluwasegun, Peter Adio Olakunle, Ahmod Kazeem Olayemi, Okewole Daniel Olayiwola, Ogundeyin Faruq Olamilekan, Edunjobi Toheeb Ayobami, Simon Dare Tosin, Ahmod Mustapha Olawale, Oladende Mubarak Olansile, Olanrewaju Kabiru Olamilekan, Olowookere Abeeb Lolade, Dolaoso Uthman Olamilekan, Kodagbese Emmanuel Aduragbemi, Simon John Seyi, Idemudia Lucky, Ahmod Waheed Olamide, Olowookere Soburu Ademola, Agboola Oladimeji Taofeek, Awoniyi Segun Gbenga, Babatunde Mathew Ayodele, Alaye John Saheed and Odediran Oluwole Ayomide.

Items recovered from the suspects include seven exotic vehicles, several mobile phones, laptops, hi and apple wrist watches, among others.

In a related development, two suspected ‘yahoo boys’, Adeniji Samson Adebayo and Ayoola Olawale Samson were arrested same day at Idi-Igba area of Ibadan, Oyo State by operatives of the EFCC, Ibadan Command.

They were arrested with two cars and other valuables.

Also, the Oyo State Command of the Nigerian Police arrested and handed over a cybercrime suspect, Andrew Olasunkanmi, to the EFCC.

Andrew was arrested at his house on suspicion of involvement fraudulent activities. A Honda Civic car and mobile phones were recovered from him.

The suspects will be charged to court as soon as the investigations are concluded.

Suspension of Emefiele, Bawa: Anti-Corruption Crusaders Commend President, Urge Tinubu To Extend Anti-Graft War To Malami, Sirika, Farouk, Others

The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC), leading a coalition of Anti-corruption crusade groups, has extended their profound commendation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for taking decisive action in suspending the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa. 

The groups then urged the President to include prominent figures such as the immediate past Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami; the Minister of Aviation, Mr. Hadi Sirika; the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Mrs. Saadiyya Umar Farouk, and various other top officials in President Muhammadu Buhari's administration who were allegedly involved in corrupt practices. 

 

In a statement signed by the National Coordinator of the NDYC on behalf of the over 107-member Coalition of Anti-corruption crusade groups, the Coalition noted that the “bold step showcases the President's unwavering commitment to tackling corruption and upholding the principles of good governance.” 

The groups said that they recognize that “the decision to suspend the CBN Governor and EFCC Chairman was made in the best interest of our nation and its citizens. It signifies a significant stride towards ensuring accountability, transparency, and the restoration of public trust in key institutions.

“We urge President Tinubu to ensure that the investigations into the alleged misconduct are conducted with the utmost thoroughness and impartiality. It is of paramount importance that due process is followed, and justice is served. 

“This will not only set a strong precedent but also demonstrate the President's dedication to establishing a fair and just society.

“Furthermore, we want to emphasize the urgent need for a comprehensive overhaul of the EFCC as a whole. Corruption has deeply permeated the system, compromising its effectiveness in combating economic crimes. 

“We urge President Tinubu to seize this opportunity to initiate wide-ranging reforms within the EFCC, strengthen its internal mechanisms, and equip it with the necessary resources to carry out its mandate effectively.

“In light of these recent developments, we respectfully request that the President extends the scope of investigations to include prominent figures such as the immediate past Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Malami, the Minister of Aviation, Mr. Sirika, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Mrs. Saadiyya Umar Farouk, and various other officials allegedly involved in corrupt practices within President Muhammadu Buhari's administration.

“We implore President Tinubu not to relent or be deterred in his fight against corruption. Corruption has been a major impediment to our country's progress, hindering economic growth, exacerbating social inequality, and eroding public trust. 

“By taking decisive action against corrupt practices, the President demonstrates his firm commitment to advancing Nigeria and ensuring a brighter future for all its citizens.

“Lastly, we strongly pledge our unflinching support to President Tinubu in his quest to rid our nation of corruption. We stand ready to collaborate with the government in promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance.

OGSG commiserates with Chiefs, Agura comminity over the transition of Agura of Gbagura

The Ogun State Government, on Thursday commiserated with the Chiefs and the Gbagura community over the transition of Agura of Gbagura, Alayeluwa, Oba Sabur Babajide Ishola Bakre.

Oba Bakre, who was the 9th Agura of Gbagura died on Wednesday, 14th June, 2023 at the age of 61.

A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tokunbo Talabi said: "The State Government, with heavy heart, announce the transition of Alayeluwa, Oba Sabur Babajide Ishola Bakre, the 9th Agura of Gbaguraland, on 14th of June, 2023. Oba Sabur Bakre was installed at Oke-Ido, Abeokuta on 21st May, 2019 by the State Government. 

"He was one of the traditional rulers of the five sections of the Egbaland and under his jurisdictions are 72 townships. 

"His Royal Highness was a highly respected and honoured monarch during his lifetime and his legacies will linger forever in the hearts of the family and the entire people of Gbagura.

"The State Government commiserate with the chiefs, the family and the entire Gbagura people, both home and abroad on this great loss of Kabiyesi."

Abiodun condoles with AbdulRazaq over boat mishap

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has described the boat accident that claimed dozens of lives in Patigi, Kwara State as sad and unfortunate.

Abiodun, in a statement issued on Thursday from the Governor’s Office, Abeokuta, regretted that too many lives were lost in the accident.

The accident, according to reports, occurred on Tuesday when a boat carrying 250 wedding guests capsized in Patigi Local Government, leading to the death of 106 passengers, while 144 others were injured.

Governor Abiodun, while condoling with his Kwara State counterpart, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, described the accident as very painful, more so as it involved wedding guests who left their homes to celebrate with their loved ones.

He commiserated with the families of the victims, the people and government of Kwara State and the Patigi Emirate, urging them to see the occurrence as the will of God.

He said: “Words are inadequate to express my shock and sadness over this unfortunate incident, which occurred on Tuesday and led to the death of dozens of people who had attended a wedding ceremony.

“It is indeed sad that a wedding ceremony could turn tragic few hours later. My thoughts are with the families and friends of the deceased. I pray that God grant the families of the victims, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
