The Laurel-winning All Stars Football Club, Abeokuta had inaugurated members of the Local Organising Committee(LOC) to oversee the affairs of the maiden Abeokuta All Stars Veterans' League 2023, also earmarked the 24th of June this year as the kick-off date for the competition.
The Committee is chaired by the President of All Stars Football Club Abeokuta, Waheed Adeoye Lawal and also have as members other Veterans like Tunji Fagbenro, Semiu Babalola, Lawal Waheed Fago and Festus Adetonwa.They are to oversee the activities of other committees and adequately monitor, oversee and supervise the games, among other functions.
Other committees set up include the technical committee, headed by Coach Henry Oviawey. the disciplinary committee, headed by Chief Muyiwa Famuyiwa (Olu'le). the Publicity committee, headed by Mr. Wole Otayemi and the Logistics Committee all in a bid to ensure proper and coordinated running of the League.
While speaking on the rationale behind setting up of the Allstars Veterans' League, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Alhaji Lawal posited that the idea to bring all Veteran Footballers within and around Abeokuta together for a robust outings devoid of usual rugged competitive game had been ruminating in the mind of all Veteran ex-players within and outside the city. He furthered that bringing all Allstars teams in Abeokuta together in order to foster a long-lasting harmonious relationship is paramount and not negotiable, and "this seems to be the way"
He concluded that he is well aware that there are many other Allstars Clubs scattered around Abeokuta and environs, and he had envisaged that many of them would register to participate in the league competition. As at the time of this report, 10 (ten) Allstars teams have shown interest in the competition.
The LOC Chairman assured of a well-organised tourney that will be pride of all and sundry.
The participating teams include the host - Allstars Fc Abeokuta, Ebenezer Allstars Fc of Iberekodo, Lantoro Allstars Fc Lantoro, Victoroty Allstars Olokuta, Idi-Aba, Bankers Allstars Fc Onikoko, Crescent Allstars Fc Rounder, Desert warrior Allstars Fc, MKO Stadium, Olomore Allstars Fc Olomore, Mapoly Allstars Fc Ojere, Idiroko Allstars Fc, Owode-Idiroko amongst others
All matches (Home and Away)will be played at the Training Pitch of MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta.
The Veterans' Football League competition is expected to expand to other parts of Ogun State in its next version.
